  1. Thanks Floyd, you must have replied while I was tying. Happy New year buddy. Fred
  2. Thanks gpd4 . Dave, The head was done the same on all of them. I use two pieces of 40lb mono for the neck and head . Then a piece of 17lb on each side of the face and head to give it width. The thread wraps make it cylinrical . The shells are tied in from the bottom thru slots cut into the sides in a figure "8"
  3. Thanks Kirk , these were alot of fun to tie. Fred
  4. ok , admitedly I have had too much time on my hands lately.

  6. Wow , that shot from above is just killer. The head profile is dead on. Great job. Fred
  7. Some head cements such as flexament actually floats.
  8. Hi Joe , if this is a first attempt you look to have a great deal of fun ahead of you tying realistics. This is a great looking fly for a first effort. To make your legs look a little more appealing you should make your first bend up from the abdomen not straight out from the abdomen. This will help you give the fly a more natural posture. Keep up the great work. Fred
  9. Have a great day Murray!!!!And many more my friend. Fred
  10. Do you mean the addiction gets worse??? Mike , it's probably too late for us .haha
  11. Thanks Kirk and Mike . Posting a sbs is on my list of things to do. Once you see how these are tied you can easily change the shape and size to match whatever beetle you like. But I must warn you ,once you get the hang of them it will be hard to stop. Fred
  12. All you need is a few sizes of mono some thread and a few markers.
  13. Nice job Dron . I really like the tape /feather wing. Fred
  14. i found that and it worked for me. all is good again! The only option that will open on mine is the download Photobucket Desktop. I thought it was maybe a system wide glitch and it would be resolved in time . But it appears it may be more localized . Perhaps there is something I need to upgrade ?
  15. Photobucket wont let me upload a new photo unless I install their new software program on my computer . This may be a glitch . If it's not I will be moving from it shortly. There is an option to remain on the old photobucket format but clicking on it does nothing. I'll give them a couple of days to sort things out. Fred
  16. It's one of my dreams , that when I retire , to travel the world flyfishing and tying. However the way my wife spends money retirement keeps getting further and further away.Haha Thanks for the kind words, Fred
  17. Mike , I'm holding a advanced tying clinic in Baton Rouge, La. Jan 12th . This will be one of the patterns taught. Once the class is completed I'll upload the steps here. Plenty of time befrore spring. Fred
  18. Mike , I think this fly and shrimp or the same or similar species to the one in your photo.
  19. Thanks Mike kind of you to say. Piker , mono has become one of my favorite materials . It's inexpensive , locally available and comes in a variety of thicknesses. Also it's durable and translucent. Fred
  20. Ok Paul ,resend me your addy through a pm. I want to see pics if they work for you. Fred
  21. Paul , if you can post a pic. I 'll match it as close as I can and send you a few and the steps. Fred
  22. Piker , this is tied on a size #18 hook . The thread used was 4M mono . I used 6lb mono for the body and a piece of ginger spanflex for a little color. I covered it with UV flex . Fred
  23. Mike , we call those grass shrimp as wel and they are eaten by evey thing that swims down here . Fred
