I saw a video where a bass took in a crankbait with front and back treble hooks and released it clean . the fisherman never felt a thing. If you are seeing them do this to your fly , you should try to keep it from them . Speed up your retrieve when they approach the fly. Fred

What material makes the best wings............
Fred H. replied to Harold Ray's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
I like organza ribbon strands. The wings are not wind resistant and cast easily and give off a nice profile on the surface.Works great on damsels and spent patterns, Fred -
Two pieces of white ostich herl would make some nice gills comming out of the top of the head. The head to body ratio needs to be , more body and less head.

or even WORSE, you could use power-bait gulp... I do that too on occasion so I guess I'm the lowest form of bottom dweller. J that was'nt dirrected at you. Buying and using parts like those are akin to doing a paint by numbers portrait of Elvis. Sure it will look like Elvis but did it help you to become a better painter.

If the truth be told you could fish with live bait . Nobody has a gun to your head forcing you to fly fish. Or fly tie for that matter.

Sorry to hear of your back/neck . But your flies look great and with any luck you'll have plenty tied by the time you take to the water again. With this down time from fishing maybe you could try a new genre of tying , say.....realistics Feel better soon, Fred

By substituting your tail material you can tie this pattern in many color combinations. This is a great pattern for crappies. I have noticed that traditional crappie fishermen that fish with tube jigs keep an array of colors and switch colors if the bite tails off on the color they are using. Why should we as fly fishermen do any less.
