  3. Nice one bats! I can see a fish falling for that one. I am almost happy with the design on what im adding. I am going to be tying an ep blue shrimp. Its kind of looking like an enrico's shrimp with a little twist. Ill post a pic when Im happy and final on the design. Hopefully It'll be this weekend. Theirs a fly fishing/tying gathering in Houston and bob clouser's going to be there. Im trying to kick a cold so I can go!

I was working in minatitlan a couple years ago and was woken up in the morning when the bed was shaking. I thought I was dying or something because I had never felt one before. I got up and watched the picture frame on the wall jiggle for a couple seconds and then it was over. I called the other guys I was working with and they felt it too. I dont think people cared in town. there wasnt any damage.
  6. thanks for the swap deeky. As of 2-5 I have a cool box of flies thanks all!
  7. Yeah I was just stating that I used to hate the prices. Not that you hated anyone. I noticed your observations and I think a lot of people agree with the conclusion. I bought a pfluger 2 pc 5 wt in Laramie Wy, while working in cheyenne I got a day off and dammit I was going fishing. I left my rod at home but I had my reel. I got the rod for $40 I think. I had a St. Croix and a tfo 5 wt at the house that by compairing prices I payed respectively 5X and 6X more for. And damnit if I couldnt tell that the pfluger from my other trout rods.
  8. I used to be like you. I used to be almost angry at the industry. The reason that the products are that much is because people will buy them. But dont hate the player. Hate the game. Ice-T taught us that.
  9. Its cool. give it another week or so.
  10. Just checked the albright website and the gpx has gone up $40 this month an the bugati or whatever is out of stock in the 7/8. Oh well.
  11. Amen I have done a lot of maintenance on baitcasting reels and uasually bearings can be replaced. You might want to contact orvis to see if they have a replacement. And if not see if you can get the size of the bearing and look at places like boca bearings to see if they have that size. I think the only reason you would need a mid range drag/reel is if you were CONSTANTLY targeting fish with speed like bones or barracuda. Most low to mid range reels are sufficiantly functional for the majority of fishing most people do. I have also been looking at albright reels. They look nice. Although, if I were a millionare I would buy a ross.
  12. I know they have bonefish in Hawii. I didnt catch any when I was there but I was on a work trip and the closest I got was fishing on wikiki beach and north shore. lol. My old work buddies wanted to go there so I took my fishing pole! There were a few cool looking flats that I saw. I did catch a few lizard fish and some cool looking goat fish on the north shore. You could probably catch some cool looking fish from the rocks if its not too rough. I think its all about what you want out of the trip. When is the next time your gonna be able to catch a local fish in polinesia? Plus salt water fishing is free and you have to buy a license for freash water there. If you get a guide you will learn some areas that next time your there you might be able to swim or walk to though. Your call.
  13. That is an elegant example of all it takes to catch anything. I bet you could literaly catch anything on that fly. I have had some luck on a conehead madonna variation fishing for bass and perch in river rapids. Mostly flathead though.
  14. what do you mean below the hook ? on the underside of the shank Yes... the underside of the hook shank. Sorry for using such pedestrian language! I'll try to do better! Oh Mr.Legg your so bridge and tunnel. Lol. I like the shrimpys too. Im banging my head against a wall presently trying to figure out a shrimp of my own
  15. a LOT better than my second try!
  16. True dat! I have been in both types of situations. But in the same shop at different times! Basically I let the guys pleasure each other, get what I need and get out. I have only been tying for about 3 years but the last year I have been getting more serious and I have used this shop to familiarize myself with materials. If theirs anything new I might try it out and its pretty easy to stop by because its right on my way home from work. The "in hand" factor is important for me. There is a fellow that chats me up and I thouroughly enjoy talking about fishing and patterns. Although he has told me the same story several times I try to chalk it up as genuine enthusiasm and a large number of customers. Unfortunately the fly shop situation (materials wise) is pretty far spread in my area. I like to go where I can talk to someone who doesnt treat me like a dumbass, and who doesnt try to sell me something all the time. I expect to be treated like a nobody at a bass pro and/or a cabelas. Although some guys who work in certain shops like those have been helpful and a pleasure to speak with( even if they were trying to sell me on something). Cabelas has a great bargain bin and nice waders. Seems that the fly shop im used to thinks everyone needs a pair of Simms G3 Guide pro goretex super battle chainmail waders. I just want something that doesnt break the bank.
  17. Im in with a crabby or shrimpy pattern tbd. I dont have it down yet but this will get me out of my new years slump and jump start some creativity. I need to find the right hook though.
  18. I just listened to a podcast (orvis FFGP) about this. From what the pro's say. If you fish alot, then every couple years(for maximum line slickness). If you fish less. You can go 3-4 years if the line is kept and cleaned properly. And use mild soap and warm water to clean your line. If not every time then at least every couple four trips. I do it in the bathtup to loosen dirt and marshgrass stains.
  19. I like a type 1 or 2 in the surf depending on the chop. I dont know if this helps you. I own a quad tip fron sci ang and I love it. It casts good and when Im wading it only takes about 5 minutes to remove the tip, stow it, and replace it with a different one. The type 1 tip it came with is clear and freakin awesome when casting lightly weighted flys I want to fish in the 2-5ft range. Although where I fish there is a lot of oyster shell. And the sinking tips have a tendancy to get small abrasions and scratches. I wonder If they would sell me extra clear tips? If I were to design a fly line it would probably have replacement tips but then again not many people fish in areas with mega oysters. And its only in the winter because in the summer we move to fish the sand and grass.. But if they dont then I guess its a good way to get you to buy ANOTHER line soon after purchasing and fishing the one you just bought after fishing it in the danger zone 5-6 trips. It would suck to have to buy a couple T1 lines every winter....$$$$. I do want to try the clear tip striper line(the blue one) form Sci Ang. Anyone try this one in warmer water? I know it would work in the winter.
  20. I dont think I will ever land a largemouth that big. You florida boys and your strain's. Lol. So what like 15-16lbs?
  21. congradulations! I too chose to quit and after a year I can definately feel the results. Were talking about tobacco right? J/K.
