  7. Thats a nice fly and video. Flatwings work well. I have cought some nice fish with them. Kevin im gonna be trying them soon for some hybred stripers in a lake near here soon, so far theyre lookin mity tasty. almost wish i was a fish
  8. ive decided to try my hand at a flatwing style streamer its loosely based on the flatwing streamer tying video on the regal vice web site overall its about 4-6 in long
  9. i dont have a problem with waiting a few dayas extra
  10. yak hair is just a long fibered material, 4-8 inches long or longer. you can sub just about any long hair, one that comes to mind is islandic sheep. another possibility might be rabbit zonker strips if you resisted the urge to cash in on the hair extender fad , u could use long feathers and tie a decever style fly.
  11. im glad they got there, now i cant wait to see them
  12. i got the flies done and i mailed them out today, they should be there soon. I too tied a black nosed dace, sorry about tying the same pattern as another swapper. i already had all of mine tied when i saw fly tryer picked, the same pattern, i didnt think i had time to tie a diffrent set and get them there in time.
  13. i put the flies in the mail today. so unless the post office sells them to make up their budget shortfall, they should be there soon
  14. i got the flies just about finnished and i need the address
  15. Just wondering whats goin on. are the late tyers gonna send anything? or are we movin on without them.
  16. keep up the good work steve remember cigarettes are like potato chips, you cant have just one
  17. an awsome set of swap flies found its way to my mailbox today, thanks to everyone in the swap Nj all day, thanks for hosting, i really liked the way you did the foxxee clouser. im thinkin im tryin to make mine too big, using too much stuff on mine.
  18. any regular pattern can be made into a beadhead pattern by simply adding a bead to it. sometimes adding the bead is done to add some flash to the pattern that u dont get with the regular pattern, i think of it as " putting the cherry on top " of an already effective pattern beads come in many sizes and colors, i personally tie mainly using gold beads, but thats my prefrence, silver and brass are also colors i like. if u want to make the beadhead really heavy, use a tungston bead or tuck a few lead wraps into the bead i sometimes prefer to use beadheads simply because the splitshot keeps flying off the leader and its a pain to keep putting it back. ive seen heavily pressured fish shy away fron the fly because they see the splitshot on the line, but they gobble up a beadhead presented without splitshot on the line but the bad thing about beadheads, and other weighted flys, is that they behaive diffrently in the water than an unweighted fly does. sometimes this diffrence makes the fish take one and not take the other as with anything else, beadheads have their place in your flybox but they are not the cure for every fishing situation
  19. Kevin, it seems to me as if your trying to make something like a dahalbarg diver/deerhair frog, but you want the hook point to ride up instead of down. I might suggest that you tie it on an extra lg streamer hook, 6xl, and then maby about mid shank bend the hook bendback style, maby even wrap a few turns of lead on it too, just enough to keep the hook turned the right way, but not enough to sink the frog. i hope this helps
  20. im in, i think i will do size 8 bead head rubber legged hares ear
  21. I really dont think that a swaper droping out is a problem, the only thing that happens is the swap is delayed a few days, but usually there is a swaper that is late tying their flies too, so by the time you decide to not wait for the no show, the late swapers flies hav just shown up. swap dropouts are not limited to people who have just registered on the site and want to join a swap , so simgleing them out with a post requirement, isnt going to help. I think that a more pressing problem is the swaper that is always 1 week late on every swap he is in. maby it would be a better idea to let 15 swapers in the swap, but tell them that the flies are getting sorted and sent out when the first 12 swapers flies are recieved
