1. I have been using a fly like that for the big browns in Mossy creek here in VA. The colors that have been the most productive for me where all black, all white, and green with a black zonker strip. I also tie them with just lead wrapped around the shank for those times I do not nee dit to sink quite as fast
2. QUOTE (Gregor @ Oct 30 2004, 04:54 PM) A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Gregor: Gregor's black sculpin Nice fly. It looks a lot like the mad tom by Harry murray but with big eyes. I always like the eyes on a fly now whether or not they help I have no idea.
3. QUOTE (Andrew @ Oct 25 2004, 09:18 AM) After work on Friday, I shot over to Mossy Creek. Mossy is an extremely fertile and productive stream in central VA. I fished for about an hour only moving one 10" fish on an egg pattern. I continued with the egg and hooked into another 10" brown. As I was playing this fish to shore, a monster appeared out of the depths and pounced on my hooked trout. This monster was actually the largest trout I have ever seen on Mossy. I was at least 25 inches. When this fish had my fish in its mouth, I could not move my line. I was eventually able to free the caught trout. I was unable, however, to draw the monster into striking. My question what fly would you use for trout that eat and manhandle (oris that fishhandle) 10" trout? Andrew I have fished mossy a few times a week for about 2 years and big trout like big meals. I throw large streamer patterns almost exclusively there and have landed 9 20+" fish with the largest at about 25" Here is a pic of a fly that I have been using with some great success. Hope this helps a little bit Jason
4. I have seen some huge wasps but the largest was definitely the cicada killer. It is a huge wasp at least 3 inches long and from what I hear it gives one heck of a sting.
5. I use lead wrapped around the shank of the hook and it works fine. It also makes an easier tie than the beads. Although the beads clacking together may also be an attractor. Jason
6. I caught a 4" smallie on a 6" streamer. Yes I know it is not coldwater but so be it I have caught some 6" browns on 6" streamers though Jason
7. I have caught numerous 20+" browns on a creek that is about 20ft wide on average. I also landed a 28+" bow on a creek that was about 15 ft wide. Largest brrokie was around 12" on a small step across type stream. Jason
8. 21" brown on a #20 trico and a 20"brown on a #20 prince beadhead
