I create shadow boxes that I donate to several organizations. Thanks to a job I had in the past, I became connected with all sorts of folks, much to my delight. Artist Thomas Aquinas Daly is amongst those old friends; he donated the watercolor in this framing. That's quite a donation, I assure you. As important, when I asked several friends if they had salmon flies tied by some of the past greats, they responded wonderfully. So, here is the framing that will be auctioned off at an MSA-US dinner in Portland, ME on 2/4/24 First, the flies: and the art and framing: Gary

I've recently done a couple blog posts featuring the flies of those two gentlemen that you might enjoy: https://theriverscourse.blogspot.com/2024/01/a-few-warren-duncan-flies.html https://theriverscourse.blogspot.com/2024/01/the-atlantic-salmon-flies-of-marc-madore.html Gary

I actually was a member here long ago, and just kind or re-activated my membership. Thank you for the very kind words. Gary -
I made these from some beaver cuttings I collected along the Miramichi Gary

For the record, the editorial policy of The American Museum of Fly Fishing's journal, "The American Fly Fisher", states that it be spelled "tyer". I have to laugh, I was that organization's executive director for six and a half years, and never saw this much debate about how to spell the word!

A boy just has to have a room to call his own:

looks like you're doing a great job on the boat. Sad about that dog with the obvious tail-envy, though. (that's a joke boy, just a little humor.)

I like these inexpensive, light weight, rollaround thingys you can get at walmart:

Just my 2 cents regarding tapered legs - much easier and safer on a table saw; you can build your own jig or buy one to make tapered legs. Really quite simple. I just don't like ripping on a radial arm saw. I'm a cabinet maker by profession. But, of course, just like tying a certain fly, there are many ways to get to the end product. Hope we didn't momentarily hijack the thread.

This is my critic, he just lies there while I'm tying, waiting to pounce on yet another of my mistakes:

I'm none too neat. I made the bench from 200 year old heartpine that I had used as flooring in one of my homes.
