  1. I will check it out also,,,,A clue...alright :headbang: :headbang: shane
  2. I bet you that fly kills. It's not much different than my #32 soft hackle i use for midging trout.Only differnce is the woven body and cdc feather. nice tie! shane
  3. That's what davie mcphail calls it.google international hopper and davie, also someone said it was on hatches.I don't know whats international either just thought it was a cool fly. shane

    cdc midge

Found it! Thanks for mentioning it. I might have overlooked it otherwise. You posted it before I was on the forum. I am going to need to tie a bunch of these real soon. Our early season midge hatches will likely be good as usual, and I rely on stuff like this to take fish. I might pair this with my Absolute Midge under it for a real killer combinationl. I will post the standard version of that up later. I'll try and get a good pic of the wet fly version of this fly tommorrow. shane
  5. Thanks Gustav yes those should kill, gotta love cdc. shane
  6. 1st one i ever tyed. You r right the legs r a little long, but i wanted them to be.If you look in my tying instructions you will see say, refer to davie mcphails tying video.I have fished with dave's hoppers for years, clipping the legs to the right porportion, but if i did on this fly,i would not have got the look i was trying to achieve.I don't think the fish will care to much. Yes i hand tied every one,1st time i saw the pretyed was on the video. It's a little time consuming, but again,it allowed me to achieve the look i was after. These flies i have posted lately, may hit the water once a piece if that.If you will look at my other flies,CDC MIDGE #30,THIS IS THE FLY I USE 80% of the time in various sizes, mostly #22 through 32 and i have a wet version, thats just a # 32 hook and a little dubbin and a starling hackle. They will take fish 365 days a year on my home water i fish at my camp.I just tie new patterns because i love to tie. But,like i said, theses will probably see some brook trout action, and brook trout around here r willing biters and i don't think they will mind. Thanks for the comments. shane p.s. if u notice on davie mcpails half blood prince and international hopper, the legs kinda sply out a bit,not looking like your traditional daves hopper, that's what attractted me to them ,something diffeent.Fly tying-gotta love it,going on sixteen years of tying and still learn somethjing new everyday.heck i just found out after struggling for so long that you can suck your thread up through the hole in your bobin, found out yesteryday on a thread in the FLY TYING BENCH.Man it works awesome.

  9. Man am i glad i read this post.I have struggled with threading bobbins for years.I use 10/0 and smaller frequently and to be quite candid it was a d*&n hard chore.Until i just went over to the tying desk and tried the sucking method.Man,it works like a charm.Wished i would have found this out years ago.So now i am definattely the newest and happiest thread sucker around. shane p.s. thanks for posting this thread.
  10. Very cool to see my thread still evolving on its, a little over one year anniversary.I agree with every post, someday i'll get this fly tying-fishing thing perfected and then someone can throw some dirt over me,for I will have died a very happy fly tying fishing man and then I can fish with JESUS and do it all over again. shane
  11. For 2 weeks thats aweome. One thing you will learn about fly tying is,your flies don't have to be perfect to catch fish.In the 15+ years i have been tying i have went from trying to get everything perfect porportion wise,to just hurrying and throwing it all together. And then back to trying to be perfect.I agree proportions r very important.I will leave you with this thought. My favorite fly now is nothing but a cdc fly.Thread-hook-and cdc.It doesn't look like miuch. But on my home waters,it KILLS.I caught 57 trout in 2 days last summer on this one fly and it takes about a minute to tie.Keep at it and you will see what i mean.that fly will fish.I've caught trout on flies that didn't look half as good as that. Good job and keep at it. shane
  12. hers a different background maybe this will help. shane

  14. Thanks guys for all the comments. I strictly target trout.I am a self proclaimed trout bum. Fly tying freak.I am using a light. One of those circular bright deals in my magnifying lamp. Also on this one i held a flashlight in my mouth and snapped the pic. Did i mention i fell in water while duck hunting this fall and the camera got a little wet.The flash hasn't worked since the duck hunting incident, but other than that everything else on the camera works fine. shane

  18. I am using a vivitar camera ($89.00).The little flower is on.It's in macro mode. I don't know what else to do,i can see the flies, there not perfect pics, but you can see the overall fly.Anyways i'll just stop posting submissions. shane

  21. Any of yall know of a tutorial (video preferred) for tying this fly.I have no problems with the body or the cdc or partridge, its the gills(ostrich herl)where i am having problems.I'm using the issue of hatches with this fly in it as a reference.but it doesn't show very good detail on making the gills,it's frusrating to say the least. shane
  22. Same. diddo..black and olive for me 90% of the time. With the other 10% being brown. shane
  23. I own the griffin oddysey spider and it may not be a high end vise, but it is the best vise i can afford. And i love it.Has lifetime guarantee.Have had no problems in a year of tying over probably about 500 to 600 flies.I love it. my 2 cents shane
