  1. Hi Big lost, not to damper your great post, but Polar bear is protected. Even if it is old, do some research. Correct me if I am wrong here, but I think it is illegal to sell in the U.S., hopefully someone will update my concern. Just don't want you to get in any trouble here. Cheers, Futzer.
  2. Hi Service tech, you work alot, sorry. Just log in before you go to work :-) this is a record! Cheers, Futzer
  3. We have raised enough money that now we supply the gloves. Cmon down! Let me finish my corn cannon and I will give you a call, Cheers, Futzer.
  4. Size 8, yes 8 Hebgen lake midges then go chase the gulpers, add a burger and beer at the Happy Hour Bar on Hebgen. I tie them on size 16 TMC 5263 3xl nymph hooks. Second favorite is rs2's in 28s, 30's and 32's, just don't sneeze wth the box open. Cheers, Futzer
  5. That is awesome, you now have the incredible responsibily to carry on what Charlie started. Maybe even time to mentor a youngster that you will be able to pass the collection on to some distant day. I have my Grandpa's old vise, nothing fancy, but every year on his birthday I tie a dozen Adams with it and find a way to give them anonymously to a perfect flycasting stranger. I think keeping memories alive that way is fun and special. I'd love to see a close up of the Powell, those are some beautiful rods. Cheers, Futzer
  6. We are now almost 18, 000 users strong, I think we can do better than 2073 users online at one time, This Saturday November 15th at 11:00 a.m. Eastern time, 10:00 CST, 9:00 MST and 8:00 PST, and for our Friends in Europe you can play Saturday night in your time zone. All you have to do is log into the Forum at that time and I know we can break the existing record of number of users online at the same time. Feel free to log in early, so we stagger our sign ons and keep the servers happy. I know we can do this. PM all your online friends and and people that could be new registered users to play along. Cheers, Jeff Futzer Anthony
  7. Stupid is as stupid does, asking a question, no matter how basic is not stupid. There are other people out there that had no idea about micro test clips. Cheers, Futzer.
  8. Dear Fred, Merely you were "Matching the hatch", I truly like your "Niblet Emerger", and am waiting intently for your still born shuck Niblet. The way I see it, fun was had by all, so hold your head proud! Now, may I suggest a couple Tiger Muskie in your pond. I love fish with big nasty bitin` teeth, or big poochie Angelina Jolie lips. :-) Cheers, Futzer. PS, Day 5 I want to party, eeerrr fish carp with you cowboy, the two of us together forget it. I will bring my own Kevlar gloves and stunt liver. Thank you for my blatant use of Bill Murray's lines from "Stripes", double cheers. Futzer.
  9. Hello CoveCreekWulff, I need a little more info to help. Are they rolling before the hit the water or when they are drifting. Also post a pic or two with a close up of your wings and hackle. I follow A.K. Best's method on the Royal Wulffs I fish. I use calf body hair, not calf tail and I cement the posts of the wings but also pinch them flat so they have a more V shape with a flatter aerodynamic, it acts like a little parachute to land a little more slowly on the surface. Glad to help. Cheers Futzer!
  10. Denny Breer, the owner of Trout Creek Flies in Dutch John, Utah has passed away unexpectedly. http://blogs.sltrib.com/outdoors/index.htm Sad News, Futzer
  11. We fish for them through the ice too, but you have to be a good caster. I try at about 60 feet, for some reason those guys that live in the little huts get pretty territorial about their open water. Cheers, Futzer.
  12. No Doubt, you sure there is no secret run? :-) Jeff
  13. Hi Big E, Nice bug, are you throwing that in S. Dakota, or headed Steel heading somewhere? Just Curious. (or maybe there is a secret steelhead run in S.D. that has alluded me :-)) Cheers, Futzer.

    Hello!

Nicely put, we expect a pic of the Monster Grayling some time soon! Cheers, Futzer.
  15. I need an all of the above answer. I tie buggier (to me means movement or the impression of) to catch fish, more realistic to catch fisherpeople. But standing on the banks of Henry's Fork, The South Platte, The lower Provo etc. I'll sell my soul to hook up. So I guess I am saying it all depends on where I am and how much pressure the water gets. Cheers, Futzer.
  16. Wish I lived closer to NY, Cheers Futzer
  17. Very fine work! Cheers Futzer
  18. Hey VAflyguy, Every so often I rub down the inside of my stackers (I use brass and aluminum stackers) with a "Bounce" dryer sheet. After a while they can build up a static charge and it makes the hair stick to the stacker. Cleaning was a good idea too as hair oils can get stickier over time. Also last comment use a stacker that has plenty of diameter to accomodate the hair clump, overcrowding makes a good even stack more difficult. Good Luck! Cheers, Futzer.
  19. Steelie and VAflyguy are correct, humidity is very important. Here in Utah, my solution was a home humidifier. Also 92Esquire's note of clipping back to a heavier part of the stem helps too. I also tie enough that the "freshness date" of most of my material is less than a year, I feel that makes a difference too. I tie a lot of Herl flies for Brookies in the Unita Mtns. They have sharp teeth, so if I do not overwrap the herl, or rib it, the herl falls apart in just a fish or two. That's my reasoning and the durability is improved. Cheers, Futzer PS, I bet Twist never imagined the amount of Herl information!
  20. So Oatka, can we be safe to say that you have been "Skooled" on the Provo? Not to say that I have seen very good flycasters brought to tears there. Just teazing, I live 15 minutes from the Middle Provo. Cheers, Futzer.
  21. I use totally fluoro now, and the difference in catching fish is great. It is much more invisible to fish. Just be extra cautious not to leave fluorocarbon behind as it takes litterally forever to decompose. I carry a small ziplock bag and pack out all my old clippings, knotted tippets, etc. Cheers Futzer
  22. Hi Nozzlenut, Let me Splain. I tie in the herl, then spin it twice round my thread. With about an inch of thread out of the bobbin I grab the herl and thread with my right thumb and forefinger and wrap the body that I want. When I want to tie off the herl I just release it to my left hand and tie it off. It is more simple than it sounds, and ends up acting like I make one wrap of herl and then wrap my thread up, and repeat. It is a very sturdy way to use herl, especially if you are not ribbing the herl with wire or tinsel. If that is still un clear I could do a few photos or a vid clip if that would help. Cheers, Futzer.
  23. Hi Jay, Nice work, and I do know where you were, so you are sworn to secrecy :-) I am sure we will cross paths sometime, see you out there. Cheers Jeff "Futzer" Anthony
  24. Aww Heck, just a big ole cereal bowl, just pour em all together, It makes for exciting tying. You never know just what your going to get. And it makes those 0.5 mm ones real easy to find. Just kidding, but if I did have all the ones I have dropped in my lifetime, I most likely would not need to buy more. I use 4 work force organizer compartment boxes, but keep the smaller sizes in their own small zip bags then in the compartments. Then when I am tying, I pour what I need in a small ramekin with rounded sides about 200 at a time, I stick the ramekin to my bench with floral putty. Spilling a couple hundred tiny beads will ruin your day, at least tungsten will come to a magnet. Currently I have approx. 4000 beads in the boxes. and 2 organizers full of dumbells, sticky eyes, etc. I order most beads and eyes by weight, and bead chain in 100 foot lengths. You can never have too many toys. Cheers Futzer
  25. Take two single edge razor blades, or two box cutter blades, and one piece of fairly hard wood the width you desire and the length of the blades. For example 3/8"x 3/8" x 2" then clamp the blade, wood, blade with a long nosed vise grip. I have even made multiples of the blade configurations using a small bench clamp vs vice grip. Just clamp very tightly and use sharp blades. work from the skin side, not hair side and just drag the device the direction you want for strips. Go with the way the hair lays, not against, think shaving your neck each day. Cheers Futzer.
