  1. PLEASE post when your flies arrive...I want to make sure everyone gets their package. thanks all.
  2. Heavy weighted clousers but dress them heavy. Marabou in all colours works and add some flash.
  3. I live 20 minutes from there...I'll put something together for you and send it by PM...
  4. Swaps are the best way to motivate and learn. I love swaps just to see every level of flies. In the end, they usually all catch fish.

    wading boots

I have felt soles for the summer months and use lug (rubber) soles in the snowy months. Felt just holds on to too much snow when walking. Look for what feels right...it's a long day if they aren't comfortable. One other thing...my cheapest boots seem to be my most comfortable...so don't go by price thinking the more expensive ones are better.
  6. I get this after a while. What I do is take a favorite fly, and tie it with half the material. To the point where you think it's too little. If you are crowding the head, then stop at a point on the hook that seems way to far back. over exagerrate everything but on the smaller scale. Then tie a couple flies like this. It cures it for me every time. I saw a speaker once talk about thi and I think it happens to many people. the flies I do this with, usually end up being my best looking flies. I think we all tend to over dress our flies at times.
  7. I can't wait to fish soome of these...great looking flies. Thanks for Hosting and all your efforts.
  8. Good to see they are arriving. Too bad two tyers backed out but it was a good bunch anyhow. Thanks for all your generousity and great flies.
  9. I have some "go to" flies that work when all else fails. About half of them are blue or purple. For steelhead, I often go to purple worms, and blue or purple yarn eggs when nothing else works. Might be some truth to it. I just go by past experience.
  10. Can't wait to see it. I use foam damsels and dragons alot but I need some simple patterns. I never have enough in my box due to the time they take to tie.
  11. I worked on a bunch of dragon fies tonight and decided on the one I'm doing. I'll do some adjustments and variations but I'm going with a green / olive foam body dragonfly on a size 14 dry hook...my eyes and fingers will need a break after this swap.
  12. Can you send me the address...mailing the flies out Monday...
  13. Flies came today...a box full of eyes. Great flies and I can't wait to get some wet. Snook that fly you tied is going to be a killer...as long as I can keep it away from the pike that hide in my favorite river. Thanks for hosting...another great swap. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
  14. I use popsicle sticks with small bits of velcro glued on the end. Great for roughing up dubbing. I also use toothbrushes for brushing out fur or fibre on streamers.
  15. Thanks for another great swap and I wish all the best for your father and your family.
  16. I use DEVCON epoxy. I like it as both parts are clear where as some epoxies are clear and yellow. It leave the heads crystal clear even after storage and heavy use. Just look for any epoxy where both parts are clear.
  17. Recieved flies today from Vegasphotoman and they are beautiful. Worth the wait. Thanks for the extras. All flies will be in the mail tomorrow morning. Thanks all for a very sucessful swap. We have quite the variety of flies and all very well tied.
  18. I hope you master this fly. In this part of Canada the Elk Hair Caddis takes about 80% of fish in mid summer.
  19. Weave in a piece of crystal white flash and a light blue flash. Along with the grey it will show the ribbing very well when wet.
  20. I tie mine 10' , 12' and 14' I usually use the 10 and 12's
  21. I can whip a few tqags with that info for ya. I hope the last flies arrive Monday or so and they'll be off right away. Thanks for all your patience. BTW...I was in the Niagara River and the white bugger caught a beautiful Steelhead. It was a killer and of course I only had the one with me. I tied four more last night when I got home. Buggers always work here but yesterday, white and purple was the fish's choice.
  22. Glad they made it. This was my first try at weaving flies so they probably aren't as good as others. I learned about a month ago.
  23. I know a guy here that ties a very densely hackled green wooly bugger. For the tail he uses long green hackle and 3 long pieces of green chenille. He swears by it. Some of his flies have small flash in them too. I'll see if I can get one from him and post a picture. he has other flies with green foam tied to the hook and trailed with green chenille at the back.
