  1. You can press the lead body with pincers and form it by this way. Don´t worry about it.
  2. Dear all, finally I saved some time and documented for you my tying process. Important points: 1 - I use eleastic tying thread 2 - you can put lead wire in 2-3 layers (as you need), then coat with nail polish (fix the body) 3 - fix nylon 0,10-0,12 mm and vinyl back 4-5 - form the body 6 - finish the fly with vinyl back and rib the body using nylon, make legs using needle 7 - dorsal view, the body is fluted and flat good luck Scorpio PS - my Rhyacophila tying process will be followed soon :-)
  3. Here is a horizontally flat Rhyacophila.
  4. Jimmy, it is hook No 14. I tied this fly for graylings I usually tie from 10 to 14.
  5. I am anxious to see this step-by-step!! Thanks! Ray P.S. I have really enjoyed the posts and flies tied by those of you from the Czech Republic!!! Its a great pleasure having you here. I am learning from you, and I greatly enjoy that. Dear Ray, I´m pleased, but I´m not a professional fly tier, just amateur. But, I´m gonna to share with you, all what I know Hope to upload my tying process as soon as possible.
  6. Firetiger, pink color, of course , it´s "hot" color for graylings here. You have to know that However I like olive or green colors as well. How to make the fly sinks faster? You can use tungsten wire, but it isn´t necessary in the small and shallow rivers. For all, I´m gonna to put my tying process here, when I save time durin X-mas. I think, you could be more successful if you respect the body shape.
  7. Dear Ray, I think we should differ approx. three body profiles for the Czech nymph. It should depend on the insect, which you tie See attached pic. According to my opinion, it could be like this.
  8. Here is my new pattern for Czech nymph. What do you think about?
  9. Very soft are cock scalps from India. They are often colored and very cheap. You can take quite small feather and tie flies no 16/18 without problems.
  10. Flykid, yes, I agree with you. By the way, I usually buy this material: http://www.hendsproducts.cz/eshop/index.php. It should be very cheap for US flyfishermen.
  11. Hi Al, it´s hard to decide what to buy. UNI, UTC or Danville? I usually tie dry flies and nymphs; wet flies and streamers occasionally. At this moment I use threads of Czech origin. They are good, but not too strong as I need. To all, who answered, thanks a lot for your kind advices
  12. Is any significant difference between UTC and UNI? I know only UTC (a little bit).
  13. I heard of UNI threads. They should be very good or the best. So, probably, I´m going to buy these.
  14. Dear all, I´d like to ask you, which tying threads do you prefer? Thank you a lot.
  15. Hi, I have Tvrdek vice: http://www.czechnymph.com/en/index.php?&am...;product_id=316 The vice is made by Jan Tvrdek (Czech Rep.). It is full rotatory vice in a high quality. You approximately pay half of common price (Dyna King, Renzetti).
  16. I never use wax or something like that. If your thread snaps, probably it would be better to change it, maybe thread with kevlar or elastic fibers? I think, probably you have a small sensibility in fingers. Tie, tie, tie and everything will be better.
  17. Hello Fred, I agree that good information source must be protected. I like books. In my country we usually say "paper is paper". It means that written words on the paper stay forever. Of course, I visit some web sites in Czech and this one. On-line discussion is a big advantage. I´m afraid that won´t be able to meet some great tier in the near future I´m occupied with my job and family. That´s pity
  18. I will try to look for book by Peter Gathercole. Thanks  I have books only in Czech.
  19. Thanks, I think to be decided
  20. Thank you a lot for comprehesive information peregrines! I´m looking for some book as a new inspiration. I´m on the level of intermediate tier. I´d like to lear some new tying methods. I usually tie my favourite and top flies. It is approx. 10-15 effective patterns (duns, sedges, czech nymphs and nymphs). From non-czech literature I have only DVDs with Oliver Edwards. I think some new book would be useful for me :-)
  21. Dear all, I´d like to ask you, which book for fly tiers do you prefer? Is it The Fly Tier's Benchside Reference or The Fly-Tying Bible: 100 Deadly Trout and Salmon Flies in Step-by-Step Photographs or anything else? Thanks a lot!
  22. I´m from the Czech Republic, so use vice by local producer - Tvrdek. It is full rotatory vice with special jaw system in half price in contrast to Dyna King or Renzetti. You can see it here: http://www.czechnymph.com/en/index.php?sho...p;psection=11.1.
