  1. thats a mess, i generally cannot function in a area where i cant find anything , and if i am losing tools i stop , re-group vaccum if i need to and get back to it, some times i am tyin a dozen flies or a couple hundred so i gotta stay organized or its meltdown time.
  2. I use Uni myself and a marker. I have also used 8/0 , with fewer wraps. Gordon Griffiths makes 14/0. gonna order some from stockard to try out.
  3. No , its not the bobbin , i tried to make it fray and could not do it. the thead breaks in between vise and bobin every time its happpened. i am using tiemco ceramic bobbins only. to lighten up the tension on your bobbin make sure you don't have ant sticker parts on the spool. neext take a bar of dry soap ang run it across the parts where the spool contact the bobbin on the 2 brass ears. try not to get carried away, if you need MORE tension use a finger as a brake to create tension
  4. Is anyone else having Uni -thread breaking in mid strand? I think i have some bad stuff from my local shop , all bought on the same day , differnt colors maybe from the same batch when it was deniered . I throw the spools away cause it just slows me dow and makes me angry. am thinking of changing manufacturers
  5. i am into soft hackles big time i was just curious if it was just another rehash of the waterhen, or are there some new patterns in it?
  6. Does anyone have this book? Is it worth picking up, as in are we breaking new ground in tying soft hackles? with cash as tight as it is i would like to hear a review from someone who already ties them. thanks.... bug
  7. Do you know of anyone who markets insect specific yarns, ihad any older guy now deceased give me some but he couln't remember where he got them, these would be for wet flies. thanks in advance
  8. yeah early, will check out charlie collins for hackle and the trout hunter for cdc ,maybe e.a.t. for mink
  9. I mix all my thorax brown dubbing with zelon, pheasant tail color from Blue Ribbon Flies. also chopped short Llama in brown with same zelon color. my wife knits and she has all kinds of wool to play with.
  10. Does anyone know of a source where thes can be purchsed in quantities of 100?
  11. Natural materials ,deer, in different subspecies ,pheasant , quail ,marabou and moose
  12. Im thinking that they are the only ones who do that. I know Helms Clouser Andrews etc all sell flies on there own. I did check with raineys and I am able to promote my flies on my own after/if they pick up any of my patterns. Thanks guys, its all uphill from here. Umpqua sounds like a real p.i.a. to deal with. I will try Raineys and/ or Orvis . THanks Again guys. rick
  13. Does anyone have experience with having , Bean , Umpqua , or the others pick up a fly pattern, from you to sell as in their catalog etc. ?
  14. I am looking for a new bobbin, i am curious about tiemco ceramic. I have a Dr Slick which gives me trouble, because of the 2 piece ceramic insert and 2 old ceramic griffins which never give me trouble . unfortuntley local shop has no Griffins or Tiemcos, only D. Slicks. Anyone using the Tiemcos?
  15. I got some tungston beads from a guy in Arkansas, they were so-so quality, the silver ones i got had tool marks, scratches etc. they still worked but could have been prettier. inexpensive though. thank you all
