  1. I got my flies yesterday. All of them very nice. Thanks everyone. I don't do much fishing - being in Ohio - but I would love to catch some trout on beautiful wet flies on some travels. A question though - wouldn't I want much smaller flies to fish with than the 8s and 6s most of us tied? I figure more like 12 or even 14s for fishing... Your thoughts?
  2. You have recieved my flies already and there is one included in there for each that signed up. It would be really nice if we can still include Student4ever in the swap. I bet most guys are ok with tying a fly each for him and if there is a way to send them on to him I suggest we do this...
  3. My advice would be to buy some "staples" like thread, floss, hackle capes, dubbing packs, maybe some mallard flanks, and some calf tail and bucktail. When you do tie, trying to tie a multiple number of each is good practice - Shoot for a dozen. When you have them finished challenge yourself to select the best of the lot and the worst. Take the razor to the worst if they are bad enough - then you can use those hooks again.
  4. My flies are done. I'll get them in the mail sometime this week.
  5. I got my flies yesterday. Thanks to everybody. Thanks for the idea and hosting the swap, Jim.
  6. Ugh! I posted this reply in the wrong topic - intended for another swap I'm involved in. I'm working on my flies but only have maybe 4 good ones ready to go. Very sorry for the confusion.
  7. I'm hoping to see some movement on this swap soon, like tomorrow I pray.
  8. Your flies look great. A swap is an easy thing to do. You just find one you want to join and post that you would like to join. Then you tie the given number of flies and mail them to the host so they will arrive by the deadline. Use a crush proof container and enclose a prepaid return postage mailer with your flies. You will recieve in return one fly from all the others in the swap. You would just have to plan the timing a bit to allow for the time for the mail getting to and from your home. I hope to see you in a swap soon, I'd join one just to trade flies with you.
  9. I'm hoping this set is getting mailed out this weekend.
  10. Hooray, this is looking like a great one. Very exciting. Should be awesome. Get em in on time!
  11. I'll join in. How about a Page as from Bergman. Thanks.
  12. I just mailed mine out. With luck you will have them by Friday, Jim. I'm thrilled with the way they came out. I think everyone will like them.
  13. I tied up 6 Morning Glory streamers today. They are beautiful. I still need to tie up 6 wet flies - I have a pattern cooked up I'm gonna call a silver dollar using silver pheasant wing quills. Should be able to mail on Tuesday - election day.
  14. I'll jump in. I'll do a streamer of some sort, probably with Silver and Golden Pheasant, and a classic wet also. (I'll probably make up a fancy original wet fly - it'll have Silver and Gold also - maybe something else... :dunno: blue eared... :dunno:
  15. Got my flies on Friday, thanks everyone.
  16. Thanks, I knew about the Virtual Classroom. Not exactly what I thought video conferencing is.
  17. How do you access the video conferencing feature?
  18. My video is up. I wish the 2 false starts, parts 4 and 5 could be deleted but I think the link is: http://www.hatches.tv/play.php?vid=257
  19. I did my dozen flies, they are going in the mail now... battling the tax filing crowds.
  20. It's up. That may have been one of the most frustrating computer experiences I've ever had. I finally had to compress the file size to under 66MB because when I tried to upload it at 95MB I think the site kept "timing out." I learned a bunch about videos by doing this and I guess that was part of my reason for joining. I'd really like to get a better video camera so I can record stuff that is not so fuzzy. My flies are going in the mail today - battling the tax crowds!
  21. When I joined this swap I didn't think it was going to be such a pain in the butt. I have tried to upload my videos to Hatches TV, YouTube and Photobucket with no luck anywhere. For hatches TV it says maximum size of 99.9 mb exceeded or whatever. My files are like 310mb or something - 7 minutes long or so. I'm going to try YouTube one more time, it and Photobucket just seem to work for awhile then get stuck and do nothing. I'll just let it sit for a few hours and see if it ever finishes. Somebody please help.
  22. WTF? :wallbash: I filmed my demo tonight. It is in several different sections. I'm not sure how I can combine them into one smooth run? Can anyone help? (Using Vista) I thought maybe I can just upload them in order somehow but I can't get past the second page for the upload. (Where it says nothing except : powered free by php motion) I clicked there and downloaded but from there the goobledegook gets deep and I'm in over my head. (I can download and install most programs but this seems way beyond me!) :help: Should I just burn the files onto a cd or dvd and send them to someone smarter? :dunno: Somebody please help, I want to meet the deadline. My flies will go out in the mail tomorrow. Thanks in advance I hope.
  23. I made my own from some nice scraps of wood that I had available.

I'd rather have the deadline Dec 31. I'm a teacher and the difference for me is that I have a Christmas break in Dec. and In October I'm really just getting going. Thanks for asking.
