  1. Nope just pulling your leg. Doing a great job. Your season starts and ours comes to a close, I'm just not looking forward to cold, windy lake fishing. Freezing my fingers off.

    mayflies

We three together what was the odds. It is facinating research I got put off by hitting lots of brick wallsand limited publications. And they were very vague. Let us know how you go with your mate. Cheers "Smuggler"

I think you scared him off with that last scam Taxon. The Australian Entomology Books I have read always stop well short of specific research. Mainly saying that limited research has been done, even though we have thousands of these critters around us every season. Even with the common beetle the scientist state that they know very little in Oz with only some or no field study being completed. Swaddo, have you read Rob Flowers Book? Australian Trout Food http://www.afn.com.au/shop/scditem.asp?ProdID=258 Maybe a job waiting for you here in the land of OZ Taxon Cheers "Smuggler"
  4. Taxon Hope you have't gone fishing? you have a job to do here
  5. Just finished a beetle swap and I posted this pic on the end of the thread. Can you tell which one is real? Sorry for my pic not downloading on my last post it is now fixed. page 2 Cheers "Smuggler" PS. smokeymountainstonefly great update page.
  6. Hi guys, Just winding up a beetle swap in Australia and if you have ever been a collator, you will realise the work some tyers put into there packaging. good packaging and labelling make it easy for the host to get them back to you quickly. The pic is what I recieved from a Flylife Forum name "rabbit" from Western Australia. Very neat indeed. Cheers "Smuggler"
  7. Thats a bloody good looking fly. I use those exact colours in Oz. Well done Troutscout. Cheers "Smuggler"
  8. Did I tell you, Wilcara has a new Renzetti Vice? "Smuggler"
  9. Sorry to hear about the incident. I just lost my two mates within the last 9 months from old age. I feel for ya. A bloke told me on another Forum "that the worst thing about mans best friend, is you keep out living them." Stay cool man and give your all to the dog while he is with you, and do some fishing too. Cheers "Smuggler" Too the Shooter he would not be walkin in Oz thats for sure.
  10. QUOTE (atroutbum2 @ Feb 15 2005, 10:52 PM) My favorite hatch would have to be the sulpher hatch , on Oil creek in nw pa, for two reasons. 1st its a very heavy hatch that lasts for about 3weeks, and 2ed it occurs at tha magical time of the year that the trout seem to be active and feeding from sunup to sundown. Even thougt the emergence and spinner fall occure in the evening, you can catch em with the same fly all day. I think on oil creek there are two diffrent bugs that hatch , one larger than the other, but since they happen back to back , the hatch gets merged into one big sulpher hatch. its just later in the month smaller flies seem to work better. Hi taxon and troutbum Interesting about the smaller sulphur, I have fished a #22 sulpher dun on an ultralite 2wt this year in the mountains and have had good success even when there is no hatch. Lovely fly to fish, I got it in a fly swap and now its in my favourites box. Pic shows how visable it is for small stream. Cheers "Smuggler" PS. top thread.
  11. Should be behind glass, top shelf. Cheers "Smuggler"

    Avon Special

Roy, great fly and article. Going to try and tie a few and fish them down under. Taxon Did you find the tying notes? I could't. If possiable can you email me them on this site. Cheers "Smuggler"
  14. Taxon It is mid summer here , probably the best river season we have had for a while. We had drought for 3 years and it knocked our poor trout about. Here in Victoria the fishing reports have been very good and I have been out and about as much as possable. My next trip is with Wilcara to the NE. Some nice creeks and rivers, gotta burn up the calories from Christmas dinner. PS. You do know the trout swirl in the opposite direction here making them harder to catch, were you aware that we tie our flies down under and out back to compensate. Cheers "Smuggler" The pic is a Murray Cod Fly. The Cod grow over 100lbs and can eat cats and if it gets lucky your fly.
  15. Well Taxon we are getting very neat ALPHABETICAL indeed. The Mayfly Dun won the Ozzie FlyLife thread. Must admit the dun was my first fly fishing experience, breathtaking. Just returned from a mountain river and the little browns loved a sulphur paradun on an ultra-lite rod great fun. Shark great flies, I like Cheers "Smuggler"

    Stuck Ferrules

QUOTE (OSD @ Jan 11 2005, 08:08 PM) To release ferrules that are stuck, and refuse to come apart, put the rod behind the knees, with a hand each side, keeping them close to the knees, holding the rod. Now exert pressure by forcing the knees apart, not guaranteed to work, but it does most times. Do not grip the rod around a ring. OSD. I have seen this method work many a time. Never thought it would happen to me when I was't watching my 9 yo son put his two piece together so tight I nearly fainted with trying to part it. A mate grabbed the rod and the knee trick worked Cheers
  18. Hi Darrin I use the free Zone Alarm and have no trouble. Are you using MS XP SP 2 that can be very restrictive on some sites and email. SP 2 is set to high security and updates auto when on line. It will not show some pics and files since I loaded it. Good luck finding the culprit always a pain when the PC is feeling sad. Chin up old boy Cheers "Smuggler"
  19. Welcome Mr Trout. With a name like that, do you get many flies cast at you. The journey never ends for me. The collecting of tackle, gear, clothing, vehicles, friends, new places to fish, web sites, books, books and more books, magazines, online fly shops, more tackle, tying flies, buying flies, hanging out in your local tackle shop, arranging trips and telling your friends, avoiding snakes and bruises, being one with nature, etomology and tying different flies, catching your first on a fly you tyed, you would not be dead for quits. Did I mention it never ever ends. Cheers "Smuggler"
  20. Looks eatable to me, Shep. Good luck on the lakes. Hope the salmonoid like it. Cheers "Smuggle"
  21. Tis a great thread Taxon keep up the good stats. I am really interested in the result. GOT ME ON THE YELLOW SALLIES "appalachian angler (tn.)" What are they? If I had turned the page I would have known sorry thanks Taxon In Oz I fish caddis patterns wet and dry. Wet as a searching pattern and the dry when risers are punching the surface and obviously when the evening hatch is in full flight. Cheers "Smuggler"
  22. Hi,Always Hopeful I do not know much about the marketing side. To my understanding they are still available in OZ. Nice unit and well made, I could not pick fualt except for "The only disadvantages are it is not a sleek and fast creature (as a kayak or canoe)" as you have said. But still another option, for the creel. Cheers
  23. TroutNut.com is one of my favourites. Thanks for the welcome guys. Cheers "Smuggler"
  24. Sean Juan As I said previously there is different boats for different strokes. We even took the old fibreglass canadians into 4 foot surf. Nose dived alot but I was young and it was fun. The Canoes have come a long way since Fibre Glass. The Coleman I have is made of RamXX and is designed for med rapid and to be dragged and pushed over rocks. Floatation tanks and the compisite hull now floats better when tipped. You still get wet but much easier to get back in the saddle. Its just a medium for me as I do not want the hassle of a full blown boat and my back cannot stand a yak. I did try a ABEL float boat on the weekend and it was great. I would like one but money dictates my choice. One thing I have learned is you cannot have all the gear that goes with flyfishing unless you win the Lottery. Enjoy the YAK its only a discussion take the info as Food For Thought. No offense intended. The same question raised in Oz attracted the same responses. Each had there preference for water craft. No clear winner. Its your choice luckily. Cheers "Smuggler"
