It was only winged dry flys. I was thinking it was my connection from the leader to the tippet. I went out today and the same thing was happening. I put on a size 16 elk hair caddis and it was fine. I never had this happen before. I am still thinking it may one of my connections. Either from my fly line to my leader or leader to tippet. This is starting to get very frustrating.

Basically it is happening in moving and still water with any fly i was using. I might be doing to tight a loop. I will see what happens when I go out tommorrow.

I have been having a problem with my tippet lately. After every fish I caught, it would wind up and leave balls of tippet. I got another brand of tippet and I am still having the same problem. Even after a few casts, the tippet winds up without me catching or snagging anything. I am thinking it is a leader problem. I have a loop on my fly line and tied a loop on my leader to connect it. Maybe I am doing something wrong? Can anyone help?

I have been fishing the Allegahney River up north and have been doing pretty good. I caught a lot of nice size trout out of there. I plan on going back up soon. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pennsylvaniaflyfishing/

It happened to me again this weekend. I was fishing this deep riffle with a muskrat nymph when this bow attacked my fly. It put up a good fight and got me snagged but then got it free. It was jumping into the air and crashing back down to the stream. A few seconds later my tippet snapped and I lost the trout. My dad came fishing right behind me and about 15 minutes later landed a nice trout with my fly still hooked in its jaw. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pennsylvaniaflyfishing/

Years ago when I was bait fishing, I hooked a trout and was bringing it in when it broke the line. A few casts later, I got a snag and was going to break me line when it started coming in. I hooked into a branch and at the other end was the trout i lost with the line wrapped around the branch. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pennsylvaniaflyfishing/

QUOTE I live in Latrobe! Home of Arnie Palmer, Mr Rodgers, Rolling Rock Beer and me I like to fish the local streams but, I am real partial to the streams of Potter County. I will be up Potter for first day. What creeks you plan on hittin? I will probably be on the First Fork in the morning and then go out to Kettle Creek later on. Also, it would be nice if we could get a big group of guys from PA together for a trip sometime this summer. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pennsylvaniaflyfishing/

You can always go on ebay. I got a variety pack of 6 colors and 9 pieces for $1 plus shipping and handeling. If you don't want a variety, you can just get all white for the same price. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pennsylvaniaflyfishing/

Check the hatch charts for where you plan on fishing. I would definitely tie some elk hair caddis, adams, midges, hare's ears, and pheasant tails. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pennsylvaniaflyfishing/

Welcome to the site! I am from SW PA and know that not much compares to the Litte J. Great fishing there and I plan on going there often this season. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pennsylvaniaflyfishing/

I just got the magazine on Monday. Loaded with great articles, very informative. I am definitely going to Donegal Springs Creek this summer. I would highly recomend this magazine also. I just signed up for 2 years of it.

I love catching a big trout but a better day is when I catch more than just a few big ones.
