  1. Hackles a little long, heads a bit crowded but maaaan it feels good to tie again. Little Doc Spratley varient of sorts.

Edit: Pic upload didn't work. Back under my rock I go, Nothing to see here

Edit 2: lol, that does sound like me most days. Think i have it figured now, got a fancy new camera kicking around but that takes more figurin than this old head can muster. Here's one from the cel phone. Great to be back, you guys are still doing amazing things on here. Awesome work!!

  2. Mother Nature's payback. Alberta has been destroying her for oil for decades, she's had enough, pissed off and fightin back. Can't say i blame her really (have a look around Ft McMurray sometime, its sad)

No more Southern Alberta fishin for the summer i'd say and the landscape will be forever changed. Stay safe everyone.

  3. Not sure how it went from playing with slip wings to a 30-40 hr classic salmon fly and having no skin touch a piece of material. People have to start somewhere crackaig, what if the first time you tried something different or just for fun in your early days of tying, someone gave you the advise you just gave? There's nothing wrong with playing around at the vise and in my opinion, no better way to learn. We don't all have the fancy picture taking equipment like some do, nor the time that some do, but being proud of something you've created is worth more than any of that.

Definite improvement over the last attempt, phishy, keep working at it and don't get discouraged :)

  4. Ask them how they're doing and keep on rolling. Why anybody would want to spend a day on a river, worried about what other people are going to do, or not going to do, or what they'll think, or not think just aint worth it. Dealing with wacko's all day long at work is enough for me, river time is quiet time. Yuppies will only venture so far into the woods, the deeper you get into it the more scarce they become.

  5. Maybe try ripping/breaking up the dubbing before you put it on your thread. Just pull it apart with your thumb and finger of each hand to break the fibres up a little bit. Spit on your dubbing twisting fingers and off you go. I make too much of a mess with wax and end up putting too much on the thread, a little ole fashioned saliva works just as well imo.

watch out for those "dubbed noodles" flytire, I've heard they're pretty painful lol

  6. I've caught more than my fair share of Salmon on that fly, and they guys I fished with back home have too. Its been a go-to favorite for years. We had some luck a couple years back with tying a tail of pearl krystal flash on them as well. Tying it up in black with black hackle is another good combo that's proved itself. I've got em with the red butt you pictured as well as adding an extra chartreuse butt right behind it. Can't go wrong with a few combo's of that winner in the ole flybox.

Not sure what area you're in but I know a fantastic shop on in NB to pick up hackles for this one and bomber's too, as well as some tips from one of the best old fly guys you'll ever meet. Lemme know if you need some info.

    Cheers
