Got mine yesterday. Nice set. I was surprised mine weren't the biggest but I think eastern's beat mine by a nose.

Thanks everyone. -Mike

Here's what I might be tying. It's a prototype of a deer hair version of the scum frog lure. It's tied on a 4/0 owner worm hook which should make it ride point up like the lure. Still needs some testing/tweaking. Stacking hair around that bend was interesting to say the least. -Mike

This sounds way too fun to pass up. I'm in.

In the mail. I tied little bitty clouser minnows. Bead chain eyes, chartreuse over white bunny hair on #10 hooks. -Mike

Dropped them off at the post office about an hour ago. They should show up in the next few days. -Mike

Crackle Backs - What's your favorite body material/color?
Crackleback replied to jd1983's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
I'd almost feel silly not responding to this topic. I carry 3 versions. Yellow dubbing with grizzly hackle or olive dubbing with grizzly hackle, both in 12's and 14's. I also like UV black ice dub with furnace hackle tied with red thread. I carry this one all the way down to a #20. It works good as a generic small terrestrial. -Mike -

Have my flies showed up? -Mike -
September swap club 2013
Crackleback replied to riffleriversteelheadslayer's topic in Fly Swaps & Contests
September and October flies are in the mail. My September streamers are black ghost hairwings. My October mystery flies are parachute emergers similar to a klink. From the sound of it I got one of the easier mystery materials. I think it's packing foam. Whatever it was I folded it over into a little bubble that serves as a parachute post on my flies. -Mike -
I mailed mine this morning. I tied a fly called the greasy monkey. I stuck with the recipe but did white with red racing stripes instead of the yellow/black in the video. Looks fishy but I think if I tie them again I'll replace the fragile hackle tip tails with rubber legs. http://vimeo.com/41821191 -Mike

My Crafty Critter fly in rainbow colors. -Mike

Got mine. This may be gill club but a few of these flies might find their way into trout mouths . Thanks for the predators, too. -Mike

If there's still room I'm in with something big and ridiculous. -Mike

Just got back in town today and the flies are heading out tomorrow. I modified a trout caddis pupa I tie to make it more gill friendly. Got rid of the tungsten bead and switched the CDC collar for hen hackle. While on my trip I fished a farm pond one day and used a lot of the swap flies. This pig took your predator. It put quite a bend in my 3wt. The second picture shows the beating the fly took. -Mike

swap club 2013 - July
Crackleback replied to riffleriversteelheadslayer's topic in Fly Swaps & Contests
You guys are making me blush. I just got back in town and mine were waiting for me. These poppers should wreak havoc on the local ponds. August's flies are going in the mail first thing in the morning. I tied Brown Owl Spiders. I tie and fish a ton of spiders but never learned to do the peacock herl heads until these flies. I subbed hen pheasant for the owl. -Mike -

Well mine are all "tied" but that's the easy part of deer hair. Best case scenario I finish them tonight, worst case scenario over the weekend. -Mike -
Flies will be in the mail this afternoon or tomorrow morning depending on if I get off work early enough today. I tied royal coachman streamers. -Mike

Got out and fished them yesterday. I caught at least a couple on every killer bug. The bead headed one with the gold rib got absolutely hammered catching probably around 20 trout. The only dry action was the morning trico spinner fall. They wouldn't take anything bigger than a 26 so the klinks didn't see any action. I plan on taking them to a little wild rainbow creek where it's always dry fly time. -Mike

Got mine in the mail. Heading down to the Current on Thursday so they'll be getting fished real soon. The good thing about my fly choices is they can be fished together dry/dropper. Thanks for hosting and thanks for tying everyone. I still can't believe Riff used real Chadwick's; almost afraid to fish it. -Mike

Figured I'd start us off for the month with a little trout streamer. -Mike

Mine came in the mail today. These should work well around here. Barring another round of thunderstorms they should go for a swim early next week. -Mike

Mailed mine this morning. -Mike
