  1. re: wire segments... I'm messing about with 240# and 180# stainless single strand wire... the 1-Step Looper wire forming tool seems to handle both without issue... re: the hook loop: the 135# multi-strand wire that's secured to the hook is nylon coated... the mono thread will bite into the coating... heavily wrapped... NO worries... the "connection" is a bit over-engineered as the hook will carry the load of a fighting fish... articulated wire vertebra... ALL a work in progress...! I will be using LARGER hooks to better act as a keel AND to help it submerge... sofarsogood...
  2. I had the opportunity and pleasure to meet Blane Chocklett [Game Changer]... He gave a swell presentation at the Cape Lookout Fly Fishers meeting... the next day he did an awesome show n' tell tying demonstration... He's a Fly Fishing Tour d' Force and his ideas and methods are monumental... Over the MOON...! After sorting out some idea, I tried an all pheather articulated version... to be honest, long hackles would probably better better choice for this application but... Blane's crafted Game Changer is a radical departure from standard procedures... This is my second attempt at "articulation"... I incorporated the splayed buck tail, very similar to Bob Pop's Beast... with some subtle differences... It's probably a Game Changer Beast... quite the project... This would be a really good Rainy Day / Blizzard kind'a phly to tye... I fabricated the articulated spines with the 1-Step Looper... almost like eating popcorn while watching the Tele... The tying process was involved and somewhat challenging but, absolutely DOABLE... step-by-step... slowly I crept... Acrylic Speed Bumps... deflect the fibers much like a "spreader"... "reverse tie" method not for me... 'been using this technique since way back in the 1900's and the Epoxy Daze... worksforme... The Buck Tail and phlash was full and rich and had wonderful pulsing motion in the water... The articulated vertebra encouraged fluid movement... The induced action should probably be banned by the Geneva Convention... Thank's Blane Chocklett... Mr GAME CHANGER... and Bob Pop the BeastMaster...!!!

  8. re: dental threader... it sounds as if there's an edge or a slight misalignment inside the bobbin tube... possible easy fix: try melting the end of the dental treader to round off the stem to create a slight bead... the bead should better slide past the "impediment"... NOT nothing... BARELY something... Just sayin'...

  10. Murphy's Law and scissors... If... make that WHEN you drop them, they will land pointy end down and never be the same... Best to tye over a carpet or soft matt to better mitigate the inevitable... and... When you find your perfect scissors, DO NOT lend them nor use them without due regard... Good tools disappear in your hand... Bad tools always remind you they are there and that they suck...
  11. A $heridan ca$tle in Par$ippany... who would'a thunk...?!
  12. buck tail or phur and phlash is tied in [usually with fine mono]... then pheatherz are welded in place to form the wing... the head and eyez are encapsulated... top coat of Tuffleye Clear Coat, Sally H, or HardAsNails... placed in direct sunlight to ensure a total cure... it's what's for dinner...! the process works well with other styles and applications as well... taking the Barb out of Barbarian... one phly atatime...
  13. Apply a little at a time, curing as you go... If you are chasing the BLOB, you have applied way too much... build up the head in stages... don't be up close staring at the light... UV exposure can damage your eyes... point the light at the target, turn the light on, look away or close your eyes... fresh batteries are good... weak batteries, NOT SO MUCH... when the cure is off, change out the batteries... place finished phlyz in direct sunlight to be certain the cure is 100%... Protect your eyes...!
