  1. okay all, I want a rod that is slightly more stiff than my 6 weight, im a student and im cheep as it gets. would an 8 or 7 weight rod be reasonable with a 6 weight line and reel?
  2. Last night I would stand on a rock and spot the salmon pods out in the rapids, once i found a good pod i would cast my fly upstream of them and sweep it slowly through the pod, amazingly agressing strikes would happen every few casts or so. Its wierd how your salomn are turned off and mine are turned on, it usually works out great durring a mild drizzle. just up and swing in and watch the indicator. I thought about tying an egg on or a nymph or streamer behind an egg, but im scared of break offs.
  3. Hey jam i got some sturdy bent shank hooks with a wide gap, they are solid and great for eggs, I do have a few stones that where my favorites, tons of salmon took off with them though it sucks i only have a few left and they are as heavey as a canon ball, talk about invinsible too, to bad i lost like 5 of my 7. I also have some great streamers, Iv been modifying all these cheep ones i buy because i dont have much time to tie, so iv transformed some black "zuddlers" into egg sucking zuddlers, they actually turned out great, just tie it in egg style behind the cone. Anyways should be an experience wednesday. Good luck to my mister M and talk to you soon. Druce
  4. Thanks for the tip, I gotta use some heavy hooks, the only problem is they look bad on eggs, damn problem as i cant seem to nail them on anything but eggs. I'm going for steelhead on Wednesday, i might have to rethink my hooks if i'm going to get them to hand.
  5. damn lost a chinook tonight!!! it was perfect my egg fly was drifting and blam he just ran at it! had him on for a long long a*s time than my hook bends out... this time i took my stiff 6 weight it was perfect for the job, i had awsome controle, and oh yeah to answer your Q Jam, yes iv seen alot of steelhead, mostly on guys stringers, they like the deeper stretches at the front of the rapids, its deep and really fast moving up there. But no steelies or littler bows, just big ugly zombie salmon, even for a zombie salmon they fight good and still take flies if you do it right. Floro tipped in the 6-10 pound range is a must in my opinion, i was never a floro fan untill i saw how clear this water was dude! your regular mono looks like a glowing rod in the water! anyways its chippawa falls on wednesday for some real steelhead slammin! im lovin this new northern life hahaha!
  6. iv lost all of my 9 salmon on the fly this year because of shi**y hooks. Is there no damn egg hook out there that can horse a big chinook in? Im using light tackle on them but it cant be that becuase than they would just come off, but the hooks are turning into hooked bars...*sigh* another one lost tonight
  7. Nice, jam! I had a few in the sault rapids recently too on a 6 weight! but mine where a little white yours look fresh. have a good fall/winter season my friend! cheers, Druce
  8. the first guide on my old fly rod is chipped on one side, you know that black guide the one that isnt entirely metal with the blackish gray inner guide usually its the first and or second from the handle, anyways mines has a chunk missing around the outer rim not inner rim so it dosnt effect the fly line, any tips on repair, like a glue that could smooth it out and replace the chipped portion? 9. First off, I think your idea is something worth exploring, I myself have pondered the concept! Second, id assume that any oil based product would cause some unatractive movement in flies like big hair wings, zonkers and all that, but as for your more "stiffer" patterns like a stone I think it would be perfect. I dont think its cheating, I think its fishing with intelligence my friend, if it catches fish than use it. When I catch a fish I enjoy fighting it on a fly rod, whats on the end of my line as lure/bait/fly..bla bla whatever I couldnt care less as long as it works, be an individual and invent your own style. I was thinking a few days ago, theres this place on a lake near here with huge huge sunfish and we jig this 10 foot spot, next time im bringthing the fly rod with heavy stone flies tipped with some worm, if it works than sweet. bla bla bla in conclusion, water based spray scent. 10. I know this is a bit late of a post, but that storey was epic.. Druce
  11. so tommorow is my first night in sault sainte marie ontario for the next 2 years on and off. Any good reports on good fishing this year around that neck of the woods?
  12. It's sort of based on the same concept. Most carp flies look much like bonefish flies. the golden bone fish they say.
  13. I would have to say wooly bugger, i use a wooly bugger with natural grizzley marabou, grizzley dubbing and grizzley hackle and bead chain eyes and it kills any fish in my home town rivers hands down! its the gray fred from global fly fisher, best fly iv ever used to date.
  14. wow this is far out! have you had success with it before, id love to see a carp rise and eat that all calmly like its a leaf or something!
  15. Fishon2 from flyforums (UK) has posted a wonderful idea for strike indicators, i am for sure going to use this no more line kinks from rubber washers, have a look if you care to ftf crew. My link
  16. holy F*** that thing is awesome, and I mean biblical awesome not your common awesome, I think the shell back you have on that abdomen is freak'in perfect, and what's the hackle you used for legs, it looks like mallard flank but with dark tips, or like turkey or something....pheasant? can we get a top down view? no fish is going to be the wiser with this little meal! really am looking forward to seeing more works from you DHise, thanks so much for sharing. 19. I always have on the buff angler series head wear, brown trout colour is awesome!
  20. it would get super artistic if it was just the same fly but 20 copies, or a pattern like ----> adams, red quill, adams, red quill . or even make a life cycle with flies, you have your nymph, wet, emerger, dry, spinner . Druce
  21. this is a bang on drake imitation! good looking fly. Druce
  22. freek'in fantastic dude, trip of a lifetime! just like eastern rises!
  23. Hey everyone, just wanted to mention that I had a fantastic experience with a member of Cortland lines staff, I had contacted there general email connected to there website on a friday night, first thing monday morning the email was redirected to a more suited individual for my problem and we communicated with each other via email on that very day regarding a defective line I had purchased. My problem was promptly addressed and I am very happy with the responsibility this company upholds to there customers. I can see my next line being Cortland once again.
  24. Hey yetavon, i'm going to be fishing creeks just like this for the next two years, is there any recommended patterns that really work for you?
