  1. West Ottawa (1995). I don't live in Holland anymore but still make it over there to see family. I'm a reluctant east-sider now.

    Drug Dealers?

They have made developments in testing for "highness" or least this video news story seems to show the ability to test the amount of active THC in someone's system and its funny as hell. http://www.kirotv.com/videos/news/stoned-drivers-hit-test-course/vqPqJ/ If the Federal and State Governments can make money/save money by legalizing Marijuana and reduce the amount of money that is stolen from me then I am for it.
  3. I've been fly fishing out of a kayak for 4 years and I have both an Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 13' and a Native Ultimate 12' I find myself in the Ocean more often then not as it tracks better, is faster, and the scupper holes allow me to keep on my truck in the rain. As the ice thaws here in SE MI and someone wants to give one or both a try let me know.
  4. Look forward to this every year but have to miss it this year, at least on Saturday. I may be able to get back in town for a bit of the Sunday show.

Lake St. Clair Smallie from this past summer.
  6. I have always been a Ross Reels guy so this is my first foray into the world "Ohhhhh"rvis. Overall it feels pretty solid. The dude I bought it from showed the reel on craigslist with the line, so I was a little disappointed that when he showed up at the buy with just the backing on it, but I'm feeling pretty good about the price, almost good enough to tell my wife about the purchase...almost.
  7. I just bought a craigslist advertised Orvis Hydros V reel for $140. Deal or no deal? It came with backing but no line and the reel itself is in almost new condition.
  8. A sling pack for $80+/-. Really versatile option to a vest.
  9. The confusion lies with our neighbor to the east use of the word "pissed", here in the states Piker pissed is a synonym for mad, disappointed, or even irate. I offer a short sentence with the word used in its american slang sense: I was so "pissed" last night after listening to Piers Morgan that I filed a petition to have him deported. And for my state side neighbors: Me and the lads got "pissed" down at the pub.
  10. Next time, if there is a next time call the offending Shumk and pretend to be an attorney. I bet you will be able to hear his azzhole tighten right over the phone.
  11. Already at the vise trying to tie up a 36'' pike pattern.
  12. I think I saw that squirrel eating an acorn along Crooks Rd last weekend.
  13. I catch my target species on flies that I have tied and that's all that really matters to me.
  14. Shortsighted reply. Do fly fishing friends let fly fishing friends fly fish for Redfish? Fishing for carp on the flats of Lake St. Clair offers a freshwater version akin to the pursuit of their saltwater cousins. I fished 30-35 days this summer for carp on the flats and never had a single day when I saw another fisherman, bait drowning or old crusty fly fisherman.
  15. I fly fish almost exclusively for carp from about early June through mid September on Lake St. Clair. Elitist?
  16. Anybody have a good pattern imitating a shorthead redhorse.
  17. I carped the same water (Lake St.Clair Flats MI) all summer fine tuning my skills. -Tailing carp are like tailing Redfish, when it happens and you're on the water it's hard to even contain your excitement. 30+ complete days fishing for carp this summer and I was lucky to see them tailing maybe ten times and it only happened for a short period of time. Sight fishing tailing carp is the ideal situation but from my experience seldom happens. Instead learn to look for the very subtle signs of a feeding carp in water that is a tad deeper. Carp nosing through the slit will toss bubbles, especially if they are in the weeds. Small swirls from a tail just below the surface while tough to see, especially at water level or wading, is a more common indicator of a feeding fish. Blind casting is the biggest time waster. The very subtle takes of these fish and the method of presentation makes blind casting counter-productive. I spent more time "watching" the water this summer than casting. I learned the movements of the fish and most importantly the feeding times. I found that the fish in my water were most actively feeding from 11:00-1:00 in the afternoon. Mornings early were also productive and late evening just after dusk. The mid-afternoon feeding habit seemed to be an anomaly from what I have read about carp fishing, it could be attributed to the abnormally high temperatures this summer or the habits and activities of the local forage. If they are cruising you're losing, If you wait around for tailing carp-good luck. Patients grass-hopper. I fished mostly from the water wading once I found fish but used a kayak to cover a ton of water. I learned that the carp weren't feeding until, while in my kayak, I began seeing the carp before spooking them. Those cows really turn off the outside world once the feed bag is strapped on, so cruising in the kayak in water 1-3' deep I could get within about 10' of a feeding carp before it took off, but when not feeding the only evidence I saw of carp in the areas I was cruising through was a muddy cloud. I would suggest picking a body of water that is known to hold carp that has flats. Stay on that water until things become predictable to you. Once you know where they are and when they are feeding, your next frustration in the pursuit of crap on the fly will start to consume you-Feeling the take and setting the hook. I missed more fish than I got to hand this summer, but all I could think about were those Golden Ghosts. Tight Lines, Addicted Carp Fisherman.
  18. The fishing in Choko last week was difficult to say the least after Debbie did her thing. Most of the state of Florida was emptying into the Glades and right out into Choko. But despite the conditions I am happy to report that the Sea-Ducers and Clousers were producers and got me a few snook and redfish. I tied the Sea-ducers with a rabbit hair collar, which seemed to work well. Thanks again Captain.
  19. Thank you very much for your reply Captain. This is more than enough to get me going.
  20. I will fishing Choko for two days a starting the 27th. I was hoping someone could share a few must have patterns for snook and reds. My dad lives in Punta Gorda but doesn't fly fish and isn't tied into the action at Choko. Any help would be much appreciated.
  21. I like it, might give it a shot with more tan and sand colors. If you like fishing for carp google "Grand Traverse Bay carp fishing", world class flats style sight fishing for carp.
  22. I am heading north the first weekend in June to stalk some carp in the bays. wondering if anyone could share a few craw fish patterns that have been good in the Traverse. I have a quite a few already tied up that I used last time I was there but I want to try something new.
  23. I trained my yellow lab from the time he was a pup to have good river manners when I was living in CO. He would go fishing with me everyday and by the time he was 8 months old he knew to stay with me, but out of the water. He would basically shadow me on the bank and when I got something he always got a sniff before I released, that was his reward. I really couldn't tell you how many duns, BWO, yellow sallies, princes, san juans, etc..... I pulled outta that dog.
  24. Hello from Royal Oak MI. I am getting a starter vise this weekend to start tying flies for an upcoming trip to Chokoloksee Island State Park in south FL. I fish all the water I can from my kayak and make a couple of trips south each year to see my dad. I can't wait to start tying and I am already thankful for this forum. Goats
