  1. Kjell-Ove, this is definitly the best one you have tied so far, it's BEAUTIFUL!! The best GH I have seen in long time... Keep the great work up, I really enjoy all of your flies :headbang:
  2. The bird is probably worth 3500-4000 USD. I really want feathers from this bird!!
  3. If anyone here's gonna buy it, I would love to buy 6 pairs if possible..!
  4. Tied this one a while ago, this is so close freestyle as I can tie.. The fly is tied in hand, and I think it sucks, especially the body... Anyway, the pheasant veilings was fun to work with.
  5. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Goku: Bronze pirate
  6. I take many wraps as the length of fiber and place on the head allows me to wrap.. I got super good herl right know, but often I do use two herls when the quality is poor and length is short.. The tiny drop of finishing varnish I use is clear (I haven't used black varnish for a while), so it isn't affecting the color of the rest of the fly.. Any more questions? :j_k: (not sure what j/k means, but I think this guy fits here..)
  7. It looks like this: I don't care doing anything with it, but of course, you can cover that part with black varnish if you want.. And thanks Damian, this fly is like the others tied in hand as usual.
  8. Step 4: When you're done wrapping the herl, you just need to secure the hackle with two turn and then take a whip finish and cut of the silk thread. Add a tiny drop of varnish where the thread is, and you get a nice looking herl head Hope this will help a little..
  9. Step 3: Tie down a full, short fibered ostrich hackle with the rachis towards the wing and the fibers towards the gut (opposite of the direction when you make the butt). Before winding it backwards, add a few drop of varnish around the head, and let let it dry a little before you wind the herl backwards.. Don't let it dry totally before you start tying down the herl, it should stick to the varnish when you wrap it around the head, so it won't fall of later..
  10. Step 2: Cut all the vast end straight of. Easily done, just watch the head, don't cut any of the wrap or the head will be a mess... Then put a good drop of varnish. Two or three times is good. Make sure the varnish (thin clear varnish is preferred) will sink into the head, so we can use the fly later..! Yup, all preparation is all done, let's move to next step.
  11. Okay, then I will share you my techniques of tying a traditional head, this is how I believe to make it right. At least it looks right to me... Step one: Tie down all materials before cutting the vast end; wing, cheeks/sides, horns and topping. No need to think about tapering the head, we are talking about tying traditional in the head using silk and wax, making sure that we can use it without worrying about that the wing will fall of in the water.. This is a fishing fly, right? It will be many wraps, and you can see the head is getting a little length that is not tapering... Horrible sight, huh? Alright, lets move to next step:
  12. As the other said, a bit sissy in colour, but otherwise I like the shape and the wing as always. Wish you could tie the gut below the hook shank instead of the sides of it, it would look 100% classic then..
  13. Mikko, this is pure drug for us flytyers!!
  14. Can't see anything wrong with the body Dave :dunno: Btw, I love the hook..! And the fly, super as always!
  15. I like it, but as you said, I miss the horns... Very nice tie indeed!!
  16. Thanks for kind words friends, though this fly is meant as a fishing fly = not flawless I think. But I like this style, that's why I keep try it out.. This is tied for a good friend. Herl-head-step-by-step will come soon..!!
  17. Davpot, I was just joking! I was planning to make a quick step by step later tonight.. As the other said, well waxed thread and a bit varnish on the head before wrapping it backwards is the main secret.
  18. Veeeeeery nice!! The head is lovely :yahoo: And the wing is looking good!
  19. Well, tied this one in hand few days ago. I'm quite satisfied with this one actually That's rare :hyst:
  20. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Goku: Childers (Kelson)
  21. Oh, that was another one..: http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?sho...c=25315&hl=
  22. Too clean  This fly is going to be so beautiful...
  23. Not bad.. Wish the gut could be a little longer and maybe a more tapered body-hackle... But nice work otherwise! Thumbs up, keep up the good work!
