  1. Top water all the way. Some poppers and deer hair bass bugs will do just fine.
  2. Great poppers.Size 2 or so?Air brush or hand painted?
  3. Bass bugs are what I have been working on.This is my first try at stacking deer hair,it is kinda hard for me but I am just learning.
  4. Get some! The eyes on the last pic are great, are they mono with glass beads?nice ties.
  5. the use of new material is a thing we must keep on.Some of my ''flies'' might be no more than lurers some hair and feathers tied to a hook.I have used spiner blades' lots of rubber bass skirts.Half of my stuff the trout guys would say it not fly.If I can toss it with my flyrod it is a fly.is gluelng a chunk of balsa on a hook a fly?l have fished 50+ feet with led core line, big 6'' fly, heavy jiggin' head for rockfish. Those body leg thing are are kinda cool, I probley won't use them, but if i can tie it on a, you never know.I is so great that tyers will always come new stuff.
  6. Nice job! what is the underbody? Just some lighter color dubbing with a little flash.
  7. here is a foam shell walking crawdad.
  8. just, look at those bad boys.
  9. Right on everybody, lookin good. Thanks for the great flys.lets get out there and rip some lips. This has been a good swap. Thanks Forrest for hosting.Lets do it again sometime.
  10. My buddy that I fish with a lot, uses a tenkara rod,He started fly fishing on that thing,it is fun for him, that is what is about right.I gave it a go a few times,it's cool, but I am sticking with rod and reel,I love shooting line. The cool thing is he can move through the brush faster, when I am stuck in it with my 9 footer.Fishing is fishing,as long as we get out on the water and have fun.By the way bluegill are a blast on that thing.
  11. I tie these for my self.To shape each one out of a block of wood and then hand painting them, is very rewarding for me.Haveing a big bass slam it is worth the work. I tie to catch fish, but I tie to make cool stuff and have fun.
  12. should I make them just like that, what do you all think?
  13. Welcome to the site.Pick out a few patterns you want to work on,then get what you need for those flies.Start out small, you cant get everything, this way you get what you need.I order all my material online, there is not a fly shop for over 100 miles from me,so I feel you about just running out and picking up some stuff.Start with eazy ties, get what you need for those, then move on to the next patterns, order, ect. 14. This is the crawdad I am working on,I still need to do a little tweaking on it. this is a new tie for me,it should come out good, and catch fish too. After I saw the pics I posted,I tied the dang thing backwards,oh well, the tail needs to be at the eye of the hook so it swims right.I will get it right before the swap, well you guys get the idea.
  15. I am in for this one,if theres still room.I will tie a hook point up,foam shell crawdad.
  16. Deeky-I think what I am getting from your post,is that I can still articulate the legs useing a bent back, bucktail for legs. That sounds like it would work.Doing two types, one with the moveing hooks, bentback, and one fixed hook mounted in the body, with hair legs.I am still gona work on the craft foam legs also. Perch-I need to look in to what you are talking about as far as the "chamois"I dont know what that is.with the wire legs if I do it like a extended body, tying the deer hair around a some fexable wire, then with some beading wire I can do the loop to loop, fixing it to my body. And haveing a fixed hook with the moveing legs,That is a good idea. Hoosier-That is right,I just wing it.Took a hunk of basla,my knife and some sandpaper and went to town. Thanks guys for all the help, inspiration, and kind words. This week I will make some more frog bodys, try some diffrent things and hope to have something to show at the end of next week. Thanks, Bryan'Salty fly'
  17. Perch-The sound gets amplified with in the wood, like how a guitar works. I think I will make some more bodys and try the buck tail with bent back hooks. If I make the body a little smaller and a little more sloped back,I could mount the hook point up.Then drill holes in the body and epoxy in deer hair legs.I could end up with two or more diffrent frogs.
  18. Welcome Francisco, lets see some of your stuff. What are you fishing for in Spain?
  19. Thanks for all the ideas and kind words. My idea was to have articulated legs, you guys have a good point about the two hook set up,I really want the hook to ride hook point up,so I can put up into the weeds and strip into open water.I am just messing around with diffrent stuff,it keeps me out of trouble. Kirk- Thanks a lot,I dont get to show off my work very much. This frog has a glass rattle with bb's in it.All of my tests had the body land on the water right side up. I will keep working on this one,and try some more stuff.I hope top have fishable one's by spring, when the bass are on there beds. Thanks Bryan 'salty fly'
  20. It casts ok with my 8wt. with an 9wt. bass bug line.It flys around a bit.I dont have much time on the water yet with this one. it lands hook down most of the time.We will see if it works, looks cool though.
  21. Heres a balsa frog I have been working on,I made the legs articulted,I am haveing a hard time with the legs. This is my third try at the legs,I don't like them,I dont know.Any ideas for legs would be cool. Thanks, Bryan'salty fly'
  22. I have been working on some dragon flys, this is the last one.what do y'all think?
  23. What I did was. After shapeing the body, about 1 inch.I took my dremel withh a small bit and routed out a space to fit the small glass rattle in.Then I cut a small piece of balsa and shaped it to plug up the hole, with a little zap to hold it altogether, then I sanded it down to shape.Next I made my cut for the hook.It looks like a regular popper, same size and shape as all my others.I am going out to the lake early in the morn, gona give it a go.The looks, paint, tail and everything are the same as my most productive popper, but with a rattle. We will see,it is fun to just mess around,I think it is cool anyway.
  24. I have been messing around with glass rattles. What do you all think about rattling poppers?
