  1. My favorite is the house of road kill. I will always stop for a good piece. I keep Borax and gloves with the spare. Greater Outdoor Provision Company is pretty good. Better for kayaking stuff. Nice staff. Stand behind their stuff. Staff care about what they sell. Jesse Browns overpriced blow hards. I feel sorry for the yuppies, they skin them alive to get their wallets. BassPro good prices, hit or miss staff. I grew up buying stuff from the Darbees and the Dettes anything else is disappointing. Western NC has some good small shops. My friend and I went fishing near Asheville NC and this guy asked to join us and he would show us some good spots. Both of us are pretty good and had fished the river a lot and we were interested to see what he could show us. Well the guy was nice and we said sure join us. This guy seemed to know every fish by name and their home address. He pointed out spots that were unbelievable. It finally dawned on me that our new friend Farrow, was Farrow Allen, the author.
  2. Been tying for over 40 years...why is it bad to expose bucktail to fluorescent light?
  3. I would do the box again. I have not been real active on site, but I'm in. Address is still same.
  4. Can we vote on the second go 'round?
  5. OK. Can the box do a second round? Kerusso, to put that stuff in, did you get another box? That stuff was pretty neat huh? You know guys the price of mailing that box goes up every person.
  6. Kerruso the box is like 14 x 18 x 24 inches atleast. Hey I read my post from last night and I want to clarify the detox part. I'm not Brittney , I work in the detox.
  7. Hey guys it should be at the new person tomorrow. Sorry I had an insane crazy week in detox didn't get to mail it out when I wanted. Hey someone has to take some stuff out of the box or get a new box. I put in pheasant, grouse, some nice beaver, fox and coyote and some other stuff. The box is jammed full. It takes a full week to look at all the little stuff. Have fun Kerruso! I vote that it makes a second trip around. I have a pair of turkey wings and couldn't get them in. Really Kerruso, you have to turn the box upside down on the living room floor and go through it.
  8. Wow the postman was not doggin it. I got the box today. That was real quick. I just got in and opened the box. I am overwhelmed! I will try to get it out a few days. KERRUSO please PM me your address.
  9. Sorry for your troubles and losses Randy. It must be very hard, with those circumstances. When I get the box, do I send it to Breambuster now or Kerusso as the list has?
  10. Ratface Did you ever see the CD Fishing Flies if North America by Farrow Allen and Dick Stewart? It has a lot of standards. I like it, but I tie in a room away from the computer. I got to tell you, I like my books better, but the CD is really good. I probably have 20 different pattern books. About four years ago I was fishing the North Mills River near Asheville, NC with a friend. It was November or December and six inches of snow had fallen and it was cold, but we both had taken off from work, and you know a bad day fishing......... We had gone out for lunch to warm up and had just come back to the stream and were putting our gear together when another car pulled up. The guy got out and said hi. He asked about my rod, I fish with a 1960's Orvis bamboo. He had a nice almost yellow colored bamboo rod. Down here, you do not see many people fishing bamboo. He asked how we were doing and we said it had been spotty this morning because of the cold, low water and they had not stocked since the spring. he offered to show us some fish. He said his name was Farrow when he introduced himself. I have fished for forty eight years and on this stretch of river for ten. This guy was better then any guide I have ever seen. I kept looking at him and finally I asked , "Are you farrow Allen and he said yes." He was unbelievable. He spotted so many fish and turned us on to so many inconspicuous hideouts, my friend thought we were being set up for some TV show. Truth is, he knew that river, and just a nice guy. He was so unpretentious. By the way, are you from the Catskills before TN with that name?
  11. Thanks everyone for some great flies. We will be going to Myrtle Beach area soon and can not wait to try some of these flies. Bill thanks again!
  12. Please send me address. Not sure if they will be the orange and purple Clemson or the orange and white Clemson. Things kind of crazy here. Don't be upset if you get the flies the 11th.
  13. Fatman...ease off the mailman. They shoot people remember that. Don't make eye contact and back away slowly. You never hear about anyone robbing a post office anymore do you? Nice flies, thanks for running the swap.
  14. Great flies! Tinman I was in two swaps with you. I like the colors, never saw that combination. What do you use them on?
  15. Can I get in with a Clemson clouser?
  16. Twofingerz....When did you go to Cobleskill? I am a 1974 Coby alumni. Fisheries and Wildlife. We would shock streams Saturday and I would come back Sunday and fish them. Certainly knew the holes.
  17. I fish the tailwaters of the Catawba for white bass. I like crease flies, muddlers and small herring imitations. Take a circle hook, tie some flash with a little pink to it trailing off the back. Then tie on the top and bottom of the hook some white. Tie this facing toward the eye of the hook. Then pull it back (thunder creek style) and place stick on eye and a dab of very quick epoxy to form just the front of the head. Hold it until it dries. You change the shape of the head by the tension and how much you pull back on the hair. I like a very rounded alewife like head. Tying these in small 2 1/2 inch minnows have been great for white bass. Tie them bigger if you have stripers.
  18. I'm with you, I like the second one better for fishing also. I have coated dryer sheets with (used are better) flexament and they look great. They fish for crap. They helicopter and do not lay as well as the deer hair or artificial hair wings. I love the last fly. They first one is tied well, but you'll catch more fisherman then fish..........
  19. Sure what the heck. Change me from the ????? to a Y
  20. OK I guess I don't get it. Can some one walk me through this? Do we all mail stuff to the swap master and he fills the box and we get to take one of each out or what?
  21. For Trout Muddler minnow (weighed)- very ragged not the new prissy style (size 2 to 6) Thunder creek black nose dace (6 to 14) Light cahill dry 14 either pickett pin 10 or 12 or partridge and orange 12
  22. Are the flies posted somewhere? Do you ever post the voting numbers?
  23. I have used bass worm weights, lead bait weights that have larger openings so you can free line your bait. These tie great sculpins for getting down quickly. Problem is they do not work for clousers. I lik my own clousers very sparse and the round weights tend to ride hook point down.
