  1. Mailed mine today. Been carrying that stupid envelope for weeks.
  2. Hey did I forget to put return postage on my envelope? I'm in a couple of other swaps going out today. I bought stamps for all when I mailed you the flies and I have an extra set of return postage. Please let me know and I will get it to you. Otherwise I have to join another swap before they raise the pstage rates again......
  3. Mailed today. You should get Monday or Tuesday
  4. We fish for carp with yellow egg patterns or regular wets. I have heard that other places they have some pretty involved patterns. What do you want as a carp fly? In the Catawba River, people "chum" corn while wading and then fish the hatch with corn imitations. It works real well. I've sometimes caught them on worms made out of micro chenille and just regular wets and nymphs, but yellow eggs have been the best. Please give some ideas.
  5. I tie on circle hooks. I use them for stripers in fresh water ( You all have a funny spell checker on a fishing site. It wants me to say I catch strippers in freshwater. I guess you could tie a Lincoln or a Washington on a circle hook....but that's another story.) and for blues and redfish in saltwater. I like how they work. I caught a Gar on one and they are tough to hook.
  6. Merle You are a great guy. I know I would never have a bad swap. I guess you got me on the address. Wait to you see the new clouser pattern. Fire Tiger - dark green over chartreuse over yellow over orange. Got five done. By the way. I have never had a bad swap since. I did my homework. Looked at old posts. I pick the winners and pass up some others. You have one of the best feedbacks. Should have known better then to doubt you.
  7. I like bear and calf tail. Coyote guard hair and tail hair are great. I like gray fox with the guard hair and some of the underfur. It acts like marabou. But badger is the best of the best. The guard hair is long and the under fur just gives such movement when stripping the fly in. The fur has a translucent quality to it as well. Depending on the size of your fly, Joe Hard is right, anything works. I like tying a Deceiver pattern in a clouser style combining feathers also. With a brown color combination with copper flash, wow.....the Redfish try to get in the kayak to get them.
  8. Merle Thanks for running this swap. please just don't mail early. I do not know this person who did not send their flies, but I was in a swap a few months ago and the swap meister mailed early. My brother in law was in end stage melanoma. I was never on the board much and the guy running the swap ended early and sent out the flies. I know you run good swaps that's why I join them. The guy running mine never PM'd or emailed. Maybe I'm sensitive because my swap was poorly run. I appreciate that you tried to contact this person. I knew that I had an obligation and shipped the flies paying extra so they would get there on the day they were due. He even accepted my package of flies, opened them and returned them using the return postage as well. You never know what is going on in anyone else's life. I know people miss swaps, just give them until after the 12th, they may surprise you. Thanks again Merle. I'd join any swap you run.
  9. What's the difference between EZ Body and Corsair? I thought that the stuff looks more like the Corsair I saw Jack Gartside use.
  10. Wicked please send address and do we need to send 11 or 12 flies?
  11. I am going to try to tie a firetiger pattern, or as close as I can get. Merle why don't I just send you a dozen flies every two weeks and you take care of me... Thanks for running great swaps.
  12. OK I've got 6 tied. They are green grizzly tail, white bucktail bottom, bright green top with peacock over wing. Mustad 3407 size 1 I will wait and see if anyone else joins. Could you PM address?
  13. I'm in. Dark green saddle hackle with green hair. Trout and blues like them.
  14. Mine were in the mail Friday. I sent two envelopes incase you feel the need to double bag them or the other flies are too big for my box. Thanks for running the swap.
  15. Mailed mine yesterday. Davidson Specials. This was a popular fly among locals on the Willowemoc. The recipe can be found in Catskill Flytier by Harry Darbee. I enclosed two envelopes in case you felt the need to double them.
  16. I have several full turkeys that I have had for quite a while. I used just Borax. Unless I bought it tanned, all of my stuff is boraxed. I too have changed the borax with a fatty skin.
  17. This looks like a good group. Count me in please.
  18. Saw this in an article: Color Combinations * chartreuse over white: everything that swims ! * olive over white: close second to chartreuse/white, top producer for false albacore. * blue over white: striped bass * red over chartreuse: speckled trout in Pamlico Sound and Chesapeake Bay. * brown over orange: redfish * khaki over white or chartreuse: bonefish Harry Hall Quote from Bob Clouser: "You can't tie these things too sparse. The ones I tie for myself are sparser than those I sell in the shop. They just won't buy one that's tied real sparse. But they'll come back in the shop after a day on the river and say, 'caught so many bass on that fly that they chewed most of the hair off, but they kept right on eating it.' And they still don't get the connection that sparse flies catch fish."
  19. Scrape all the fat and flesh off. Coat with 20 Mule Team Borax. Tack skin side out on a board. Use as many tacks as needed to keep straight. Place board in cool dry area. Allow to dry until stiff. Put more borax on if skin looks damp or runny. Some people dry skin side down with about 10 sheets of newspaper between the skin and the board.
  20. atroutbum2 Can you PM me the address to send my flies. I went with the Davidson Special. It is a size 14. Tied them this evening. The fly and the tier are discussed in Harry Darbee's book on fly fishing and tying in the Catskills. Nice tie Alex. What size is that?
  21. You are very welcome. I will be sending you some caddis flies( dry) with the wings like in the book. That emerger is a real buggy pattern. I fish it dressed as a dry sometimes. It works during several mayfly hatches as well.
  22. Do the flies have to be post marked 1/31 or do they have to receive them by 1/31? Anyone know? I emailed them this weekend and did not get an answer.
  23. Let me know if mine don't show up.
  24. Sizes 12 to 20 Mustad 94840 Sizes 22 to 28 Mustad 94842 I like the upturned eye in the smaller sizes.
