Here is what I am tying. It's Northern Magic from Chris Helm's video on pike flies. They sorta resemble what he ties. Eight done, should have them in the mail this week.

Low Humidity, Static Electricity and Synthetics
flyrod98 replied to flyrod98's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
I'll give it a try tonight. -
I live along the front range of the Rockies. All we have been getting at lower elevations this winter is wind, no moisture of any kind. I have recently bought some long synthetic super hair and trying to use this stuff is driving me nuts because of static electricity. I have put an unscented fabric softener in my material containers and we run a humidifier constantly. Does anybody have any other neat tricks of eliminating the static cling?

I am glad to be aboard. I'm going to Canada in June and hope to catch some big'uns on the selection from this swap.

I spotted this swap too late to get in. I would like to be considered as an alternate should the need arise.

I found this recent thread and the links it contains to have a lot of useful information on photographing flies. EASY to make Fly Picture Studio

SmallieHunter, Fishing from a wheelchair does make things more challenging. Fortunately I like to cast nearly as much as fishing so I have spent hours practicing in the yard. WaterFlogger, Finding a place to fish on stream from a chair is difficult. The spot in picture is ideal. Fish hold upstream and downstream from the spot where the platform is placed. Once I am assisted onto the platform I am good to go all day, unless a thunder storm comes up and then I get off of it pronto. Being on an aluminum platform when lighting is in the area, could be damaging to your health. I have some pictures of the platform close-up. Can you post pictures in replies to this list? Some streams have had platforms built on the bank but they usually are to high above the water and then they put a railing in the way, so you always have to have someone assist you. Sjo, Thanks for the link that is what I am looking for. I doubt if my attempts will look anything like those beauties, but hopefully the pike will still eat mine. To the rest thanks, I have only just begun exploring this site and discovered that there are two other forums beside this one, so I will be spending a lot of time surfing and reading.

Hello All, My name is William, Bill or Willie. I have been addressed at one time or another by any of the 3. Bill is my preference, but lately since I have been retired my wife seems to think my name is “Hey Stupid”. I am 67 now and I have been fly fishing ever since I was 16 years old, when a school buddy and I skipped class one spring before run off had started and he introduced me to the clipped deer hair bodied Adams. I hung three of them up in trees and bushes that day and that launched me into fly tying at about the same time. It was years before I learned to tie with deer hair on my own and I’m still not very good at it. There were no resources like this forum in the 50’s, just my trusty Herter’s catalog and Herter’s “World Famous” fly tying manual. Everything in that catalog was world famous according to George L. Herter. I have done my fishing from the sitting position 31 years as you can see from the avatar. Motorcycle accident is the reason why. I have tried not to let it keep me from doing things though. I am looking forward to a trip this spring to Canada and fishing for pike. I will be going to Last Mountain Lake north of Regina. I am looking for information on pike fishing with the fly rod and fly patterns for pike and if anybody has fished this lake I would sure like to hear what worked for them. This is going to be fun hanging out here. Bill
