  1. Correct, that is an A1-E. The squadron I was in had 2 of that model. It could seat 4 under the blue canopies and the pilot and observer up front. If your interested this site Abledogs.com is an authoritative site for Navy and Marine Corps aviators who flew all models of the Douglas AD Skyraider. The sea stories are some great reading.
  2. Did you get a shot of the Skyraider? I wouldn't mind seeing it, if you did.
  3. Air Shows are great and you got some nice shots  I especially like the old war birds that still have a prop up front. In my Navy days I spent 3 years in an AD Skyraider squadron and your pic labeled Skyraider is I believe, a British Spitfire, definitely not the the Skyraider I'm familiar with.
  4. Fun isn't it? You got some nice shots.
  5. My shots from this years town Krazy Daze activities. I used the canon 18-55mm kit lens and wound up setting it at 24mm when I was satisfied with what I would be including in the shots. My exposures were f8 for 8,9 & 6 secs respectively. Opened the shutter when I saw a shell going up and held it for the duration of the burst and those are the times I wound up with. It was a blast.
  6. In the spring the males look like this pic in their breeding plumage. The beak turns yellow during this period. In the early fall the feathers become tipped with white.
  7. The background in both photos was overcast sky. In the finch photo there was just a hint blue in the background.
  8. Congratulations, your articles and photos are top notch and are certainly deserving of the recognition. :clapping: :clapping:
  9. First Some Yard Birds Side View & Rear View of a Male House Sparrow. An unwanted Import from England Male House Finch-Orange Variation Male House Finch-Red Variation These were taken along the Poudre River trail A House Wren A Swainson's Hawk-light morph A Snowy Egret-A first for me
  10. Jim, Nice photos. It you aren't tired of photographing cars, there is a big car show in Loveland on the 5th,6th, &7th. Their advert says over 2000 cars will be on display. Here is the link. Good Guys Rod & Custom show
  11. Thanks Peter. I recon it would have been a good idea to mention that DPP is Canon's RAW processing software for their RAW format images. One thing I like about it is that it's free and with my limited experience it does about every thing I was doing in Adobe's Camera Raw.
  12. Male Robin processed with Canon's newest version of DPP. This is my first bird shot with the 400mm/5.6 lens as well.
  13. A Great Horned Owl all decked out in real tree camo and displaying it in golden evening light.
  14. Nice work. I'll be looking forward to seeing some of your shots with 400 prime and the 1.4 converter combination.
  15. WOW!!! Pretty much sums it up.
  16. I'm Green with envy. I've had one on my wish list for long time. Congrats!!!
  17. The first two are stunning. Nice work.
  18. Jim, I took these on 10-2 so I imagine the aspen have lost most of their leaves by now. The cottonwoods on the lower Poudre might still show a lot of color though.
  19. These were taken along the Cache La Poudre river and at a trail head into the Rawah Wilderness.
  20. I like them both. In the first one, it's interesting that the shadows and the clouds forming them are both visible. The aspen grove in middleground catches my eye and leads on to the mountains in the background. The second one would make a nice calendar page.
  21. Here are a few pics of the some of the giant RC planes that flew at this 3 day event. Betty and I went this past Friday. I wish we would have been able to get more shots of the estimated 300 planes that were there but it was hard to move up and down the flight line.
  22. Jim, you found some nice fall colors. I going to have to get a map out to see just where you were. That second buck has a real trophy rack. The wife and I are going to take a trip Thursday up on the Poudre again and go at least as far as Gould. I hope we can find some fall colors as stunning as yours.
  23. The facial expression on the first b/w is priceless. Congratulations!
  24. This is the white variant or morph of the Swainson's hawk. My bird book describes the color as whitish or buffy white. To me it shows up as being off white or ivory. Anyway it is not a pure white, but it sure does jump out at you. It would have been nice to have some softer lighting. Thanks everyone, Jim, Magoo, cencalfly, sulfernut, INS, and Peterjay for taking the time to look and comment. The entry deadline is not until Oct. 17th so I have some time to go back to the raw file and play around a bit, or even better yet, go out and see if this guy is still hunting in the same area. It was fun watching it try to perch on top of that branch. It finally got the job done.
  25. I'm thinking about entering one of these hawk images in a wildlife calendar contest and would like some feedback on the which crop you find the most appealing.
