  1. Speaking just for me, I usually use flys the size you're talking about for bass too. I tie the #6 stealth bombers for swaps and such because they're a good crossover size for bass and bluegills.
  2. Black and just about anything (purple, red, blue, chartreuse, olive, white, grey, gold, silver, and brown to name some popular ones). Blue and Chartreuse is good Blue and white Blue and purple with lots of blue or pearl flash Red and chartreuse with black red and white I like purple and white, particularly in baitfish imitations. Olive and chartreuse is killer. Just remember that the dark colors go on top and the light colors go on the bottom, just like in nature. Experiment and find what works for you.
  3. That's great!!! Keep it up :headbang: !! I've always wanted to stop and fish when I've driven through Oxford. There's some really fishy looking water there around HWY 78 and 45(I think it's 45) that ought to keep you busy for a while.
  4. "Always bet on black" -- Wesley Snipes in "Passenger 57" Good advice
  5. So sorry for your loss. If there is anything I can do please don't hesitate to say so. Terry
  6. Got mine Monday, too. There's some unhappy fish in my neighborhood!!! Great job everyone :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :headbang:
  7. First of all, I like the flys you have so far. But I'll offer my 2 cents as well. I'm not sure if I'd limit my color selection to just one. You may know something that I don't, but I like a little variety. I like dark colors in clear water, or at least colors that come close to the color of the bottom of the pond. I may have overlooked them, but I didn't see any topwater flys in there. Don't forget about topwater action, particularly in summer time. A good selection of bass flys will allow you to fish the entire water column, surface to bottom. Like I said, though, your flys look good to me. Happy hunting!! Terry
  8. There wasn't a choice for "any" so I picked "panfish" since that's what I usually catch on buggers. :dunno: I don't get a lot of bass on buggers, even though a lot of folks do. I guess the bass where I fish are weird or they just don't eat buggers
  9. I've never weighed my bluegills but I did take a picture of one once and the picture weighed 4 lbs, if that tells you anything :dunno:

    'gill rods

I've got a 6' 3" 3 wt. that I like to use with them, which is usually sufficient. If I'm going to fish where there is not a lot of open water I'll go to a 5 wt. either 8' 6" or 9' because that's what I have. I prefer the 3 wt. though. I call it my "Magic Wand" because it's so light and small in my hand but it makes fish from the pond magically appear on the bank.
  11. I've taken several bass on these. They're great :headbang: !!!
  12. I don't know what Day5 will say about those but I say tie up another dozen and send them to me
  13. Are you talking about largemouth bass, striped bass or something else? I fish primarily for largemouth bass and I get by just fine with Hobbs Creek reels from Bass Pro Shop. They go on special about every other month or so for around $40 bucks. I haven't had any trouble with mine, but mostly it just holds line. I use this reel on an eight weight and on a three weight rod and I like it a lot. Hope this helps, Terry
  14. I don't know if you can or not depending on where you are with packaging and all, but you can keep any extra flys from my batch if you can use them.
  15. Oh yeah, and I have the saltwater jaws for my Peak but I have never had to use them, even when I tied deer hair bugs up to size 3/0. I just love this vise!!!! I have the clamp for it, too, because when I bought it I was afraid the pedestal wouldn't be stable enough, even with the assurances I got from several users. Well, I haven't used that clamp, either, if that tells you anything. That's my two cents (and then some). Terry
  16. I use my Peak vise with the pedestal base to do my deer hair work. I don't have any problems with the vise moving and I've been known to break hooks from pulling too hard :flex: (fat guy don't know his own strength ). I love my Peak.
  17. Here's a really good step-by-step. It was the first entry when I Googled "crease fly". Crease Fly Tutorial
  18. A man after my own heart  :drunk:
  19. Is that a flattened out loop or two straight pieces?
  20. Ok, I think I get it now. I've never had that problem with Estaz, though. Good to know what to do if I start I guess. Thanks for the tip, Terry
  21. Yep Justin, you're the man!!! Thanks for hosting!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
  22. This is typical for me, but I don't think I get what you're saying. Got pictures?
  23. I like the weedguard, too. I've never tried one of these flys (the crease style) before. Does it fish like a popper or like a shallow diver?
  24. Here's one of my favorites and most productive. Stealth Bomber The foam spider is good. Check in the fly pattern database on here, too. There's a bunch of them. Google Jack Gartside and check out his site. A gurgler is another of my favorites. Hope that helps. You can PM me for any clarification if you need to. Terry
  25. Yes. I have some that I was thinking the same thing about. I'm glad it's not just me . That being said, I haven't had any trouble with them and the fish don't seem to mind so, speaking just for me, they're just funny looking. They were cheap, what can I say? Terry
