About Me
Born and raised in rural Missouri; successful transplant to Michigan since 1997. This is better -- there are more fish here and all the water isn't brown and full of snakes.
Started tying flies in 1996 to try and save some money. I'll just pause for a second here so we can all have a good laugh at that.
Got into photography because I wanted to write fishing articles. Did a little of both for a few years, decided both were unsustainably expensive. Now I write and/or take pictures when I feel like it. If someone wants to pay me to do either, great, but I'm not holding my breath.
Got into woodworking because I wanted a portable tying bench. Built one using the three tools I owned then: jigsaw, drill, and orbital sander. That was fun! Now I have a 1200 sq. ft. shop, $$$ worth of tools, and people sometimes want to buy things I build. I will keep doing this as long as possible.
For the last 20 years or so, I've fished primarily for smallmouth bass because they lived in the rivers that were closest to me. Last fall (Nov. 2021) my wife and I moved an hour north to a place in the woods near a smaller town that is close to some good trout rivers, so I expect to be doing more trout fishing starting this spring. I can hardly wait.
