  1. I've found that it is best for me to move to a spot that the intruder can still see me catch fish while they can't get a nibble in the spot they stole from me. It is amazing how often it works out that way.
  2. Lots of wildlife to view as well. I have pictures of a big Muley standing a hundred feet from me watching me fish. It is also the only place I have seen a porcupine in the wild. I didn't get very close to it.
  3. My grandma would cook 'em. We used to raise rabbits and when one of our breeders got too old to bear, only the breeder's had names and this one was Daisy May, she cooked her up in a stew. I was all set to eat up until she asked if I wanted a bowl of Daisy May. Just didn't seem right eating something with a name...lol.
  4. C&R is great in general, but to never eat what I catch would be just wrong...at least for me. I'm a 99%'er like Piker20. Gotta eat me some fish sometimes!
  5. I could earn it but it wouldn't be easy! I will have to respect that badge should I ever see it.
  6. Maybe you are using too much dubbing. I have trouble like that when I have too much. I also use a dubbing loop as often as I can. Tie a couple half hitches and pull the extra dubbing from the bobbin side of the knot when you are done.
  7. I find that many times I have ten thumbs instead of two.
  8. Most of the time I wear my long-billed Simms cap. I also have a wool ski hat (a stocking hat with strings that hang from the earflaps) which looks really dumb on me with my fishing vest but in rainy, sleety, snowy winter fishing I have found nothing better and it keeps my ears warm too. I have allowed no pictures on myself wearing this hat.
  9. I figured if they couldn't sell the show by using fishing in the title and had to use a double entendre to pique interest it must not have enough substance to keep me interested. A good fisherman isn't measured by a bunch of stupid exercises made up for TV. He earns that title over time, standing in the cold and rain alone, always spending less time catching than he spends fishing, never giving up when others walk away and constantly feeling that the next cast could change everything.
  10. I gotcha! I've not fished Colorado for a few years and can't recall exactly which campgrounds I have stayed in except for a KOA in Montrose. We mostly fished the lakes up on Grand Mesa from there. It is a beautiful Mesa covered with lakes that are full of hungry trout. Since I was a little kid Grand Mesa hasn't failed to pay off with lots of rainbows and cuts. There is great fishing and access in Montrose in the Uncompaghre River as well. The Gunnison can be fished when based in Montrose as well as other reservoirs and streams. I have fished around there many times, my mom grew up there and we visit there when we can.
  11. Maybe he thinks you don't know what you are talking about??? I haven't fished all of those but it looks like a great list to me.
  12. I would recommend that if you are going to take an awesome trip like that to have the right rod and reel for the trip. They don't have to be high dollar. Last year I took my Cabela's 9' 5WT to South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming and caught trout up to 24". I felt like it was the perfect wt rod for that trip. The reel I used was an old Garcia Diplomat that I have owned for thirty years. I am going back to Wyoming this year with a 5WT BVK and Lamson Konic and my old rig for back-up. I am really glad that I had the right tackle for that trip even though it wasn't very expensive high quality stuff. I had a blast. If I were you I would sell blood, a few toys, anything you have laying around the house that you don't use anymore and get the right tackle. Your trip will be a lot more fun.
  13. When i was out west last year I used a 9' 4X with 5X tippet tied on and 6X on my dropper fly. Pretty similar to Flytire. This worked well with most flies we used out there, mostly size 14-16. This was with a 9' 5wt rod that I use for most all of my fishing until Salmon time. With streamers though I would go heavier with the leader and tippet.
  14. Just got my paid hook order with all the half price hooks I could afford! Ordered from J. Stockard and GCO on the same day and received both orders the same day! Great deal!
  15. Welcome from approximately St. Louis!
  16. I refuse to choose between streamers and nymphs so I won't make a list but I am intrigued by the variety in everyone else's list.
  17. Finally got my free hooks. Not the ones I ordered but they were a style I use often. They look good. I placed an order during his big hook sale over the holiday weekend. Website shows that they have been shipped. Hoping everything is going good at GCO now.
  18. Welcome from St. Louis! Sorry about the Royals.
  19. thanks for all the great suggestions! i will be well-stocked with great flies.
  20. We were there last year but didn't have time to catch the museum. We are for sure hitting it this year.
  21. Just placed my order for half price hooks! What a great deal and shipping is free!
  22. I looked at a million of them. I just want to know some favorites so that I can narrow down the selection. I will check out charlie boy hoppers.
