  2. Brent You should get a happy ending along with the book and fly for 2k!!!!! If he failed to tell you about the 150 up front, then he should make good. You appease this beauty and others down the road will pay for it also. The world of salmon tiers isn't that big and if you put the screws to one ,you screw all of us. I wonder if he writes off his trips to Somerset. Two grand could have bought you a nice set of Rare and Unusual which might have a better investment value!! Look at the way Paul and Ingrid's names are on a wall of shame,,, maybe his name needs to be up there also. As for cowering in the closet wondering if th IRS is going to come knocking for their cut of 150, leave that to the junior samurai. Send him an e-mail in German and if he doesn't understand it maybe he can ask himself why he doesn't speak it. OH WELL.. OFF TO ANGER MANAGMENT Rog
  3. My bothers and I lost our Dad a couple of months ago and this was the first trout camp w/out him. As the pictures show maybe he had something to do with the way the weekend turned out. Yes some of these fish were killed an eaten, but an amazing number of large fish were returned. Four browns over twenty, a stunning 8 fish over 18, and a whole gunny sack full of browns 13 and under were released in two mornings of fishing. This was all on hard hit, open year round public water We had a fish fry with a few morels we found and talked about all the good times we had with our Dad. Both Happy and Sad Rog[=15189]
  4. I can't resist adding to this one. A few years back my cousin was in from the Yukon for a short time, and wanted to take some fish back with him to show his friends what kind of fish we get in Northern Ontario. So my father and cousin go out to get one Persons limit of Brookies, Lakers , walleyes and Pike for him to take back with him. This can be acomplished on the large lake where our camp is with the exception of the Brookies, which you have to walk to about 3/4 of a mile back in the bush. So they took care of the Lakers , walleye , and pike without a hitch and they were all well above average. My father spent more than ten years wandering around the bush hunting an fishing waiting to die and it never happened, "doctors", so he knows more honey holes than he can remember. They hiked back to this brookie lake where we are the only pressure it recieves all year long, and it was one of "those" days. They came out of the bush and my cousin was perma-grin at what he had to take back with him back to the Yukon. When they pulled the boat back into the lauch here was an older CO sitting in a car and a young girl game warden who came down to the boat and demanded to see their fish. When she looked into their cooler, she blew her stack and yelled back up to the older warden to cofiscate all their equipment and boat because they were way over their limit on Lake trout. The lake trout limit was two fish and they had five brookies, if you follow me. The older warden said they could expect a heavy fine and the judge really liked to make an example of americans who violated. My father kept his cool and just loaded his stuff into their truck like they asked, but my cousin couldn't keep from grinning. The older warden says, you think this is funny you won't be smiling later, and my dumb ass cousin wouldn't cut it out. So the old warden gets out of the car and looks in the cooler. He looks in the cooler and lets out a gasp and says HOLY S__T give them their stuff back these are brookies!! The girl yells back no their not, brookies don't get that big, the smallest was 5 lbs. The old warden looked at my father and says you bastards were going to let me take you in and we would have been laughed out of town. The dad says ohh you bet your ass I would have, and next time you'll get out of the car won't you. The warden helped the girl put all their stuff back in their truck. I love that story Rog
  5. OK I can't leave out my Michigan Two cents. Been there, seen the same stuff. My dad told me when I was young, that you should choose your friends wisely but be ultra picky on who your going to go fishing with. All the tu meetings I've been to have had rather good size populations of guys with expensive rods and little weenies. Ever since a Crick Runs Through It, or what ever it was called came out, these types have had a chic excuse not to catch any fish and stand around and show off their three speed graphite toys. When I was younger and more surly, , I might have shown up at a tu clave up on the Muskegon River with my white Shakespeare Wonderod with an 1810 on it and a can full of crawdads in my creel. Hey it was a public park . This drew some icy glares, but the 20 incher I was "lucky" enough to tag in front of them ruffled a few hackles. As I was gutting it the posturingand lecturing began and they didn't seem to pleased when I offered to let them fight the next one I caught. Leaving well enough alone , I left soon after. Was this an ethical and just thing to do?? No. Was it a s_ _t of fun for a sick puppy like myself?? Yes. :hyst: Fly fishing is a great facet in the gem of fishing and having something shoved at you by a bunch of elitist tools, is enough to make a guy want to take up golf. " I can't believe I just said that". Anyways a round of Muddlers for all my friends!! This regular guy chapter will most likely be so popular you will have to limit membership . TIGHT LEADERS Rog
  6. CRAWLERS!!! Never leave home without them Rog
  7. My recently deceased father and I were throwing spiders at pre spawn blue gills in lake here in northern Michigan known to have a few nice blue gills in it. I nailed a big male that went 12 inches and weighed a pound four ounces, (what a battle)!! I believe you probably could have grown 3 big whitetail bucks in the time it took to grow that one up here. I still have the fillet knife I won for it in a contest at our Polish hall. Rog
  8. I used to fish a pond where the big gold fish had been fed bread before. I tied a small cliped white deer hair bug, (size 12), that looked like a peace of floating bread. I was surprised at how selectice they could be. Rog
  9. Hello Brian! Yes I have done the cruise and fish thing before. Doing it on a cruise was a little harder than doing it at an all inclusive resort. When I went on my first cruise about 15 years ago I brought a little fly spin outfit and dragged it along on most of the islands I got off at. With the short time you have on the islands your options can be limited so the spin outfit can save the day. When I went on a cruise there wasn't any internet so I just looked around for spots that looked good or asked the locals. I had some good fly fishing on St Johns, and the Dominican Republic, (puerta plata), and decent spin fishing in St Thomas, and Puerto Rico. I threw clousers and caught small jacks, grunts, and needle fish, lots of fun. A few years later, after I was Married we decided on an all inclusive resort in Mexico, and I did lots of research on the net about the fishing in the area, "Puerto Vallarta", and it really paid off. The water around the resort received almost no pressure and I had it all to myself. I would get up early and go fish a couple of hours before breakfast and just have a ball, on big Red Snapper, Jacks that would burn up my fly reel, Sea Bass, big needle fish, and a whole boat load of other species. One of the days I got a hall pass and was able to take a bus(.40 cents", a couple of miles into a small town, and find a locale to take me out in a small boat. With A little Spanglish I was able to get 6 hours of fishing for 50 bucks , and boy was that worth it. We caught Mackeral and some medium size Dophin fish that put my 8wt to the test, plus we also caught many more lare Snapper And Jacks. Being able to fish and also keep the wife happy were the reasons I pushed for an all inclusive resort, as the cruise left you little time to do both. Mexico also gave you the best bang for your buck as there are lots of good packages with flight included for under $1500 for a week. With that in mind fishing on the Pacific side is phenominal and on the Gulf side south of the Cancune , Mayan Riv , is much better fishing. The fishing offered by the cruise in Grand Turk is probably good , but expensive. The better resorts in Mexico will pamper you just as well as a cruise will for a lot cheaper, and you can tailor make your fishing while the wife is still very happy. Doing your home work on the net is fun and it will pay off ten fold. Hope my LONG winded response was of some help Rog

  12. HELLO! My name is Rog Rosloniec and I live in Grand Rapids Michigan . I work in a hospital laboratory, and have been tying for thirty something years. My dad grew tired of buying muddlers when I was about 8 yrs old, so he bought me a kit and said LEARN! I tie most types of flies, but I have been addicted to classic salmon flies for about 10 yrs. We have two little toddlers so vice time is a very precious thing to be savored. The better half coerced me into doing craft shows with my flies a couple of years ago and that makes my time at the bench easier for her to accept. We fish here for trout and steelhead/ salmon, and panfish and we're real lucky to have so many good spots so close to us. My wife is from northern Ontario and a couple of time a year I go stomp around the bush up there and chase big brookies. This forum is an impressive source of information and I wish I would have found it sooner. I hope I am able to make some useful contributions, because it's nice to be here. Thanks Rog
