  1. I tie on a tray table in my living room. All my stuff is kept in stackable containers that I push into the corner when I'm not using them. This way I can tie and spend time with the family in the evening. Between flies I can stretch out on the couch. Hope this helps some other folks that are struggling with space issues. Mike
  2. I listen to them at work. Very nice production. Mike Cadillac, MI
  3. A wooly bugger in white with a touch of crystal flash or flashabou in the tail can be effective. Another to never leave home without is a pheasant tail nymph in standard, beadhead and flashback. No pics, but you can find patterns by google-ing the names. Mike Cadillac, MI
  4. Nice work. That fly looks mighty "buggy" so it should catch fish. Good luck! Mike Cadillac, MI
  5. Welcome! Steelhead are wonderfully addictive. There is nothing like 10 lbs. of chrome fresh from the big lake to put a bend in your rod Mike Cadillac, MI
  6. Not bad. Like the others have mentioned, be sure to save them. There's a couple of books that have been helpful to me as I learn to tie that you might enjoy as well: Fly Tying Made Clear and Simple by Skip Morris Fly Tying for Beginners by Peter Gathercole Mike Cadillac, MI
  7. Here's another one: Thompson style whip finisher at Cabela's Mike Cadillac, MI
  8. Neat. The edges would keep beads from escaping as well. I'll have to look into that. Mike Cadillac, MI
  9. Welcome. You will learn a lot from the good people here. Mike Cadillac, MI
  10. Welcome. Good to see the younger generation get interested in this great sport. This is something you can take with you your entire life no matter where life takes you. Mike Cadillac, MI
  11. Welcome. Catching fish on a fly you tied is the best. Mike Cadillac, MI
  12. Bienvenue! It is good to have you here. Mike Cadillac, MI
  13. I never noticed we had a member map before. Cool! Anyway - here in the great lakes region, especially in the northwestern lower peninsula of Michigan the fishing stinks. Nothing but bullheads. Mike Cadillac, MI
  14. Payment sent via Paypal for 1-XL Navy. Thanks! Mike
  15. Thanks all. I'll give black and olive a try and see if either (or both) works. Mike
  16. The patterns I've found for a crystal prince (a variation on the prince nymph) all seem to use brown hackle for the collar behind the bead head. Is it critical to use brown? Only reason I ask is that I have lots of olive hen saddle, but no brown. Would olive work just as well? Do the fish care? They look like this: http://flydepot.com/flyfishing/pn--beadhea...nymph/pid--404/ but with crystal flash instead of white goose biot on top. Thanks! Mike
  17. I'm a CPA working at a public accounting firm. Mike
  18. 1 Navy XL for me please. Thanks! Mike
  19. Welcome. My favorite bugger is white, with grizzly hackle, white glo-bug yarn for the tail and a touch of pearl krystal flash over the tail. This really is a great place to learn. Mike
  20. I didn't know Manton had a Chamber of Commerce. Must be set up in the back of Deeter's bar or something Seriously, there are some nice trout in the area. The weather's been nice (highs in the 60's) and things are starting to green up. Mike
  21. Forschner knives will hold an edge longer than the Rapala cheapies. Pretty reasonable price for what they are as well. Mike
  22. Good work. I wish my first couple looked that nice. Mike
  23. Hi, my name is Mike and I'm a geek. :help: I'm a CPA. An interesting night of reading consists of reading about changes in tax law or auditing standards. I roast my own coffee because I like to. For wild entertainment I tie flies and go fishing. Mike Embracing my geekness in Cadillac, MI
  24. What a great idea. I love the idea of being able to be with the family while tying rather than hidden away in my office. Mike

    Hockey

I find myself agreeing with Fatman. The millionaire pro athletes don't belong at the Olympics. That said, I've really enjoyed watching the women's hockey. Lots of energy and good team work. On the men's side Team Canada seems have been able to pull together and play well while Team USA seems to be treating this as a vacation. Maybe they've been hangin' with Bode too much. Mike
