  1. Utyer, thanks so much for the informative response! After looking at the hatch charts for my local rivers I can see the progression for those specific waters. I like the idea of keeping it simple and just changing size and color. When I began looking at fly patters I was totally overwhelmed by the options and how to know what would actually work. Now I have a list of things that I know should work so I can tie those up and get ready to fish. With that task done I can also look at patterns that just look fun to tie and give those a try. Thanks again for your help Debbie
  2. Thanks so much for the info! That gives me a place to start. I did find some pretty detailed hatch charts online. Am I correct to assume that by looking at the hatch charts I can determine the order of the hatches on different rivers or do bugs hatch in a universal order? How foolish of me to think fly fishing just had to do with learning to cast! :-)
  3. I've been lurking around this forum for several months . . . thanks for all of the great ideas and information! I started fly fishing about 3 years ago and decided to try tying this last spring. Well as you all know this has ballooned into an obssession!! I do my fishing in North Idaho so the flies I've been tieing have been for that purpose. I've actually caught fish on my Stimulators, Elk Hair Caddis, PMD's, Ants, Scuds and X Caddis! Now that my fishing season is winding down I want to develop a plan for my winter tieing. What should I be tieing for next season and in what sizes? I want to be stocked up and ready for fishing come spring. Any input on this will be helpful. Thanks Debbie
