  1. I'm with SOS on this one. I have been trying for weeks to bring up the map. All I get is the words "already entered". :dunno: Does it still work for every one else?? -Tom
  2. I wanted the source of that CDC report because it sounded like an urban myth to me. Any way I did some searching on line and here is what I found. There have been some cases of human avian flu in Azerbaijan. Probably 7 confirmed. It is difficult to be 100% sure due to poor laboratory conditions there. The source of the infection was probably from villagers handling dead swans. The birds (wild) were plucked for there feathers. Since it is now illegal to hunt the birds the people were reluctant at first to tell how the contact came about. If there ever was a confirmed risk from old feathers I am sure notice of it would be quickly posted here. If I was ever in danger it would be from hunting ducks. Wild water fowl do contract the virus, and do migrate. That is how it will probably one day enter North America. If I were to worry about things in descending order of probability I doubt that I will ever live long enough to get to this one. Tom
  3. Can you give a citation for that CDC report I would like to read it.
  4. I don't think fly tying supplies is Mike Jacob's primary business. In order to get in touch with him go to Hawkeyeflyfishing.com and click on officers. It will get you to his phone number. If you don't want to drive he is happy to do business by mail. Tom
  5. Sorry I didn't get back on line sooner. I get mine at Fin & Feather in Iowa City. $1.25/ card. I didn't realize we had such a large Hawkeye contingent here.
  6. Mike I get some whenever I get to Iowa City. There is a store there that sells it under the name sparkle braid. It is made by Wapsi so should not be hard to find. -Tom
  7. Bob Marriott's has whole mallard wings $4.50 has the blue feathers. Tom
  8. I think I'll do a bouface. I know it's pretty simple but it has been a real fish catcher for me.
  9. Gregg A, and Day5. They both sent me some flys. With no one locally to mentor me it is a great help to have examples on the bench to try and match. Really thanks to every one.
  10. If there is still room I'm in. Its been a thin year I only got 3 wood ducks and I'm keeping them. I did get several squirrel tails though so I think I will tye some picket pins. I've been wanting to give them a try this year. tight lines -Tom
  11. Will I will miss the magazine but that is unimportant. Here is wishing you an easy and a smooth recovery. Be well friend. regards -Tom
  12. Hi Tennessee In eastern Tn day 5 is probably right. Go to a good fly shop and inspect what you want to buy. Here in Eastern Iowa that is not an option. There is a Gander Mountain about 40 miles away with a little tying supplies. When I was there last week they had a few Keough saddles (mostly dyed) tyers grade. They also had two Indian rooster capes. That is about all there is around here. This is really not fly fishing country. I have never even set foot in a real fly shop. I buy most of my stuff online. I try to deal with reputable suppliers only. For my feathers I use the sponsor of this site Jstockard or feather-craft. I have had good results with both. If you have to buy yours sight unseen I would strongly recommend dealing with a well known dealer. If you get feathers with critters in them it could wipe out your whole stock. The little extra you might pay will be well worth it for a reliable quality product. Also if you have a quality problem with a stockard product (which I never have) James gives very good service. My opinion only, your mileage may vary. Regards Tom
  13. It really looks good! :yahoo: -Tom

  16. Gregg I have no idea what species you fish for, but I hope there is something in there you can use. Tom
  17. In mail. They don't look like much but I really don't care as I right now am changing from fly tying mode to one of unbridled greed. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, I can hardly wait. :hyst: :hyst:
  18. This is my first swap so I'm not sure of the protocol. I'm ready to go to the post office right now. Do I just include a large self addressed envelope with the postage applied? As soon as I'm clear on what to do I will overnight these out. Gregg the small box is for you. Thanks -Tom
  19. Gregg I am away from home on family business. Not to worry I will send it out Mon or Tues and I will pay for the overnight delivery. It will be there on time. -Tom
  20. Crotalus I can't find an exact match. I have many similar ones. The only difference is that they have the days of the week printed on each compartment. All those are is clear pill boxes. If you can make due with the printing on top of the compartments, just go to your local pharmacy and pick some up. regards -Tom
  21. Dave I got the midge jaws a couple months ago and like them. I was tying as small as 24. Now I like them for 18 and smaller. They are not , however, the easiest jaws to change. I think it best to go to the hardware store and get some extra e clips just in case. regards -Tom
