Hook: 8 Aberdeen Body: mesh tube from Dollar Tree. I stripped the chrome Mylar out so these are monofilament. They look white, but are semi-transparent. Head, "guts" and tail: Green and silver sewing thread.

I would recommend a good two part epoxy finish. It'll be completely waterproof, smooth as glass and the carbon fiber will be covered completely. It's a good way to seal off and protect anything. But, it does need to be rotated constantly while setting up, or it will drip. If done well, two part epoxy leaves a beautiful, durable finish.

HAHAHA ... LOVE THIS ONE !!!

Really cool !!! Maybe the poor Velociraptors will get one of the kids to eat this time. (yes, I was rooting for the dinosaurs throughout the movie.)

Purple is a derivative of blue, so it's an acceptable color! I do like that color on that white rod. But I like bright shiny things. -
Welcome to the site. I'm hoping you'll figure the site out, like it, and stay for a while, like many years. Should take you ten or fifteen years at least, to give away 50 years worth of stuff !!!

Do you know if they were catching anything? I'm with you on the "wait 'til it's warmer." Been a Floridian since '92. No cold weather activities of any kind for me. Well, not voluntarily, anyway.

What is your favorite fly fishing Rod?
mikechell replied to Stuart Fluke's topic in Fly Fishing Gear & Techniques
Just find the most expensive rod you can and then say that's your favorite? Just joking. I'm sure there's more expensive rods out there. 😉 I couldn't even afford to look in the general direction of one of those. I've got an old bamboo rod that my Dad left behind, but I've never fished it. -
No pictures on this post. But another two weeks in Troy, Ohio ... yuck. Although, it's supposed to warm up to 40+ for the first 4 days of this week. Still, it was 80 when I left Florida this morning.

Been in the 80s here for a week. Cold front came through yesterday and today barely got to 70. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. My front yard is still under water from Hurricane Ian ... more than 100 days ago. and a video of the full yard/road frontage.

During my ... sabbatical ... there were many things I missed here. This in one of them. MMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm Blue !!!
-
In the 80's the last couple of days. This rose seems to only produce one bloom at a time. This one was about 5 inches across. A rare sight these days. The native American Green Anole. Almost completely run up to higher levels in the trees by the invasive Porto Rican and Cuban Brown Anoles, it's a good day when you get a glimpse of one, let alone see it this close.

You've officially joined the ranks of "Bad Dad Joke" fogeys.

Happy New Year to one and all. My hope is for all of you to have a prosperous, healthy and happy 2023. Best of wishes to you and yours.

I wouldn't recommend a screwdriver, either, as that will likely end up with two broken tools. If you have a chisel punch and a chunk of wood to lay the jaws on, you should be able to drive the punch in enough to release the hook. If you're sending it in for repair/replacement ... I'd leave it in there. As you said, let them take it out AND you won't have any tool marks on the vise indicating misuse.

Steve ... remember to spin that top. If it never falls, you're dreaming.
-
🤣 Have any "bad dreams" lately ???
-
Yes, it's impressive. All the sculpture/3-D print stuff Steve's done are in there, and it all looks truly amazing. It's easy to see why his fly rods look so good, when you see the effort he puts into his hobbies.

I've seen them roll, but they usually stay correctly oriented ... at least enough for the fish. It's been my favorite top-water since my first outing with it ... caught fish everywhere I've tried it.

Thank you. Which ones? The long mesh minnows or the green katydids? The green katydids ... I've been tying those for years but the folded and glued green foam bodies would "unglue" after a while getting wet. So, with these, I decided to sew the tops closed. Hopefully, the fish will tear them up before they become useless from delaminating.

Favorite flies tied while hotelling in Ohio a couple of weeks ago.
