  1. IGFA rules? Hmmm. Kinda like the guys who catch bill fish at the transom after it's been teased so close all they do is dangle the fly out the back with out casting. Then call it a fly fishing record? Me? I could care less about IGFA rules, I just want to catch some fish...and eat some too.
  2. The similarity to Capt. Bob's is no accident. I like fishing seaducers and these are just jumbo versions except for the bottom pogie imitation. I suppose baitfish imitations would work but they take longer to tie and eat up a lot of material. Many cobia I have cleaned in the past were loaded with crabs so I tied this one up using yak hair for the body. First swim test it sank like a rock, so I glued a piece of orange craft foam on the belly to control the sink and also look like an egg sack. Looks great in the water, now all I need is a fish to fling it at. Most are tied on Mustad C68ss 4/0.
  3. I was thinking that might be Gadwall over mallard due to the contrast in the pattern. When I tie up patterns that call for duck flanks I usually grab my gadwall bag of feathers.
  4. Makes me want to tie one up like that for Cobia.
  5. I always apply a drop of glue to the first thread wrap along the whole shank of the hook then begin after it has set up. I fish mostly salt and toothy fish can do a number on a fly quickly with out gluing it well. Zap a GAp and or super glue gel and regular which I get at the dollar store.
  6. Ditz. you'd been amazed at the tussel that beast put up. Piker, I'm all for funding my afflictions and disease (this fly one). Don't know about old timers disease but I'm sure if I hang around here long enough I'll get demented. Next thing you know some one will be showing a picture of his huge tampon in this contest and it'll be over.
  7. Maybe I missed them wading through all the skirts and beehives. Post again and refresh my failing mamories. Here's my last years whopper to beat.
  8. Ok, seeing as I'm the only one who actually posted a photo of real live caught and released tarpon last year I'm going to enter to defend my title and beat my own personal record. Even if it is only 20 inches.
  9. Working out with the lady? Lady GaGa?
  10. Actually have not caught any fish on them yet. However they are made of the synthetic material and doing a test stabbing one with small sharp needle nose pliers it barely show any marks compared to natural cork that starts breaking up quickly. Maybe some blues will be around Port Canaveral this weekend so I can see how they hold up.
  11. I made these primarily for cobia but assume they would be food to any large predators out there. The hooks are 7 or 8/0 left over from my trolling days for mahi. I included the unused wine cork to show what the bodies are made of. Very light and very tough material and high floating and readily available if you're a wino like me. Actually cast pretty well too. Hope to do some real testing as soon as this blizzard passes.
  12. Don't know about the sewer bass but I do catch a couple in the retention pond at the VA clinic every time I have an appt. there. Also I posted real tarpon pics the last contest I caught in the local ditches, yes ditches here in Merritt Island. However they were NOT deemed substantial by contest rules. All my ditch tarpon flies are secret but they do tend to catch gar as well since they share the same waters. ???
  13. Checked the ebay site and he has a bunch and most have bids at that. Crazy.
  14. The things cabin fever brings out. Hurry summer!
  15. Interesting observation isn't it JSzy. Seems like they gotta have the latest, greatest, bestest, lightest, fastest etc....but still want to cut and re-tie to change a fly while steadily shortening your leader every time. Very illogical in my mind. I guess if some big name snobby doesn't use it then it's taboo. Me I don't care I love em and use them on every fly weight from 3wt on up. Also I have not been able to detect any affect on the flies concerning the weight or action. While on this I do have one knot question. How close do you snip the tag ends on your blood knots? Always concerned about them slipping if not totally tight if cut too close.
  16. I tie a few for saltwater with some of the synthetics out there as well. Experiment with different materials or as they say...think outside the box.
  17. Graci ! Like the last shot of the fast snap too. Not too many use them but they do make it easy changing flies. However they need to be changed regularly if used in salt like I do.
  18. Andy, when you decide to cut that red beard off save the hair. It'll make some dandy crab and shrimp imitations for the reds. Oh and welcome to the gutters.
  19. Butts have killed millions of people ( including a few flyfishers ) I guess they might kill some fish too.
  20. Did they think they were trying to get a manatee or beached whale back in the water?
  21. I've been using that Dollar hair for a while on all kinds of flies and cobia jigs. I also get my clear nail polish, there instead of expensive Hard as Nails as well as bead eyes when they have the right chains in (seasonal).
  22. Sweet flies. What size hook you using? About a week ago I found a few big trout on some flats here in East central Fl and they were very spooky. Never got so much as a look, even cast twenty feet in front and waiting till they cam e to fly before moving it only to see them do 180s. The water is almost gin clear now and very little grass making sight fishing exciting.
  23. Let us know how you like it. O almost ordered the 10wt but couldn't justify adding another to the arsenal.
  24. I agree, I would rather take the ocean, swamps and woods over the alleys any day.
  25. Capt. Bob do you wear Kevlar when fishing the residential canals down there at night?
