  1. One of the problems with too long a due date on a swap is things keep getting put off and next thing you know you're late again. 3 weeks or two months me or someone will forget and be late. I'm with flytire in shorter time frames work out better.
  2. With the time I put in in between doctor app'ts., stents in my kidneys, lazer treatment of huge stones, and all the other things I went through getting the packages sorted and wrapped you're not the only one. With this being the least follow-up in years I've done it it will probably also be the last. I have a lot of flies sent as extras and will be making packages for various fly fishing groups and time for me to start a lot of cleaning out of things I'll never get to use anyway.
  3. My aggravation is with the damn CA on a brush. The worst is Gorillas Glue but have had the same problem with Krazy Glue. Before I get to the end of Krazy Glue or even half way through the Gorilla Glue it comes out hanging in a blob from the brush. End up throwing it out before I've used half the Gorilla or most of the Krazy. I know the cost is not as expensive as the UV stuff but still very irritating.

    Oh crap

Our Polar Vortex cold is supposed to move in starting today and tonight and it's a good thing it held off for a day. Last night we got a hell of a rain gusher and if it had been snow we'd have looked a lot like you guys living north of the Mason Dixon Line.

    Oh crap

Whoops. Answer was to DFoster and flytire snuck in there. We had a couple of single wides just blocked off ground at first but doublewide on slab was a much nicer setup and doors and pantries didn't shift around all the place between winter and summer like blocks on the ground did. Our house here on a perimeter foundation shifts around between winter and summer even though we never really get frost to speak of in the ground. That's great if you're talking a house with basement and able to do that. We had first a single wide we bought with property, then moved that and put in a slab with a doublewide. Our water came from a sunken pump down a culvert and then drilled to about 60'. The top 15' or so was a big culvert to go down in and work on lines or pipes and we left a heat lamp on down there all winter. We covered the top of the culvert with wood and carpet and it stayed all except one winter when I plowed the snow too close to the pipe. We had a wishing well over the top and when people asked about our water out there in the sticks I just said we scoop our water from the well and dump it in a cistern under the house.

Yep. Up north I looked forward to the first good snow and hope it came before the sub zero temps we had. I would go around the house and build up as much insulation of snow I could and then every snow after that I'd fill in behind the pile as it melted away from the house. Kept the pipes from freezing and limited time we had to run the heat tapes. I kept a path around house for snowblower to pile the snow up but much of the early years I did a lot of shoveling.
  7. If he goes out on charter boats one of the things I used on my boat a lot was "flashers" with a fly trailing behind. At that time I bought mine but if you go online and look for salmon flies to troll behind flashers and dodgers and "cowbells" you may find something to tie up the charter captain can run behind one of his rigs. I know with this story I'd definitely have given favored position to a rig with the fly you tie for him.

"the milk and bread isle at the supermarket" We really never had that up north but down here in OK that's a real thing. We keep a loaf in freezer just in case but we just predicted with 3-4 days of pipe freezing below freezing weather and this will clean the bread shelves off and greatly deplete other things in the small Super in our town. We'll do an order for Walmart pickup tomorrow and get ready for this but leaving cabinet doors open and pipes dripping may but in store for us for a few days. The only pipes we've had freeze are those leading to kitchen faucet and this year we had kid go under house and put insulation on the all. Up north we had to live with heat tape on everything and it was fine as long as we had power.

    Oh my

Back in the day the big thing was raised rear end and dropped front. One of my friends got the idea he could drop the front end easily by just heating the the coil springs on his '57 Ford. I stood on the outside with a scale on the front bumper while he reached underneath with a torch and heated the springs. When I had him scaled at about 3" even on both sides we quit and he was happy...UNTIL HE DROVE IT. If you've ever seen a car with shocks shot in front and front end bouncing every bump this was 10 times worse. After a couple of rides with him I swore I'd never get in that car again. Sure enough a few weeks later he hit a big pothole and totally lost control and wrecked an otherwise gorgeous Ford 2 door hardtop if I remember right.
  10. Wife was talking to daughter in Minneapolis and they are warmer and nicer than we are here in OK. I remember a year that they were trolling on Mille Lacs lake for Christmas and resorts were losing huge amounts of money without being able to put their fish houses out. Gonna take a few years to see if this is the new norm or just another aberration.
  11. agn54, your set and box was from JV Mills. I learn things every year. Next year I'll put FROM on package and inside box.
  12. Christmas Eve is for opening presents. Have at it. Take pics if you can. I've got most of them shot and will put them on later.
  13. Bob, I read this last night and it's one of those kind of posts you don't really want to respond to. To have a brother to share and enjoy life with for that many years is a blessing but at the same time it hurts that much more to lose them. You had a lot of good years and the memories you've stored up will be a big part of the rest of your life. You have my sympathy for your loss but at the same time my happiness that you had so many good years with your brother. He'll always be with you in memory whenever you fish a stream or tie a fly. Screwed

Okay Gene, let's look at a few things on the CFRF I'm a moderator of the Classified Forum on. ONE...I list and lock right at top of page to beware of scammers on WTB ads. I list need of 10 post minimum to post on Classified and unfortunately our server does not support building that into the Classified so I check ads a couple of times a day and delete those "join and sell" ads with pictures copied from somewhere else. I also ban the person from the site but that doesn't stop them coming back as someone new. TWO...In the Classified rules it is strictly against our rules and Paypal rules to use Friends and Family to try to save a few bucks either way. If the person selling insists on F & F Run, don't just walk away from the scammer.
  15. I have repeatedly warned about using Friends and Family for purchases. It's a scammers delight. It's against the rules of most forums to use it. An exception would be postage for swaps of a way to help someone out.
  16. Fantastic work as usual Steve. Maybe someday I'll have to get off my recliner and try some things besides TV. How old is the lucky receiver of these gifts? Regardless of age it will one of his treasure gifts for years.
  17. I managed to send mine to the wrong address so when you get a set from Bryon Anderson mine will be in with his. He's being kind and fixing my screw up for me.
  18. Just so you know, you can open the envelope. You will find at least two wrapped gifts and some open stocking stuffers to go right to the bench. The gifts are wrapped inside and put them under the tree. Santa
  19. You suckers out there obviously don't have any bobbins like a couple I have that have ceramic buttons going in and going out. Straight shot of tube fine but put ceramic buttons on each end of tube means you're going to use dental floss or the good styled wire models like I do.
  20. I have all the packages wrapped and assigned with To/From labels. I THINK I have everyone covered and I always run into sorting problems when I get to the final stretch. I have one more package that the first person to speak up will receive along with the one already assigned. One of our generous members sent two packages and one is a beautiful box of large streamers. These are not the small streamers one would use for brookies in the stream but big, beautiful streamers in great colors. I'm thinking stripers, steelhead, salmon, something that likes a big meal. The first person who speaks up is in for this beautiful bonus. In the meantime, here's shot of the gifts under the Charlie Brown tree. Spent yesterday having wife drive me 220 miles to OKC to get the super stones broken up and removed. One more trip needed but got all gifts packaged and labeled with Pirate Ship and they're going out today from PO. The stocking stuffers in the packages is a very random assortment of items sent in from swappers and distributed at random so if you get something you sent in back again it's not that it wasn't appreciated but just luck of the draw. On a special note the small wrapped package which every one should have gotten and the ugly bug yarn was a gift from Santa's generous helper, our own Flytire (Norm Frecchette).the closest to a tire known among tying circles countrywide. I'd also add, I will be setting up overflow boxes of goodies for next year already and donating a couple of boxes I have with extra flies for various social and military groups using fly fishing as a means back to the real world or to support breasts (one of my favorite supports) or alcohol recovery (something I'm very familiar with having been sober now for 47 years).
  21. Sorry to be "that guy" but tracking says you should have them tomorrow..
  22. thanks Silver Creek. I used to defrag my work computers regularly but somehow have never got around to doing it on my home computers. My kid got me some kind of backup plugin deal and luckily I did have the old computer backed up and saved a lot (not everything) of work on this new computer. Once upon a time years ago I got pretty good with DOS commands on the work computer but those days area long gone. Nick
  23. I have been fascinated when top pros in Japan take a 300# tuna and skin and quarter it, then cut it down for Sushi or other dishes. One of the things the top pros all use is very large knives in the shape of a pot-bellied cleaver. I also watched the master craftsmen in Japan forge and hammer out these knives that can easily top $1000 and they become lifetime positions for the pro fish cleaners over there. I know I have little use for one except in the kitchen but I searched around the web and found the are all kinds of prices but did find one in 3 different sizes and the middle size was "reasonable" as far as top quality knives go. I bought the knife, a sheathe, and had it hand sharpened to the next level of sharpening. It is sharp and all I've used it for so far is cutting a ham and miscellaneous items. I would have loved to have this knife back in the old days when I was butchering big chinook salmon for the smoker.
  24. Damn the guys on this forum must be getting old. I've got two stents, one in each kidney, and they come out next week when they go in again and blast the stones out of there. We're a tough old bunch and mine should be there soon Bob.
  25. Relax Andy. Sorry for the worry and trouble for you. I explained the last month and especially last week has been a nightmare for me. I have just stayed up half the night going over the mess I've tossed on the bed and YES, your flies are in there. Thank you.
