No posts in 3 months? Come one, someone has got to have caught a tarpon by now.

Within the past two weeks I placed an order with GCO and received it VERY quickly. The hooks were good and sharp, true to size, and really excellent all around. The best budget hook I have used thus far. Two of the hooks had minor flaws, but I'm assuming that's a fluke, and they in no way affect the integrity or fishability of the hook.

I believe it's just a one man show. And we should remember, after all, that these hooks are 100% free. I'm more than willing to be patient for something considering it is going to be costing him, not us, money to provide them.

What do you do with your Congo Hair/EP?
BrookTroutAngler replied to rec3334's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
It also works very well as a trailing shuck. -

It's 80 degrees outside as I type this. Eat your heart out!

Placed the order and the code worked great for me. Looking forward to trying out those 2XL hopper/terrestrial hooks. If they are good I'll be ordering from you again. Thanks!

Fly Tying Video- Mini-Hopper
BrookTroutAngler replied to BrookTroutAngler's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
Thanks all. Glad that it got someone interested. And Bassmouth, if you go and tie flies that are better than the one in the video, how does that make me look? And for those that make videos, why is it that normally you can tie a fly perfectly with your eyes closed, but turn on the camera and you are fumbling left and right, making rookie mistakes, and getting tongue tied? Fly Tying Video- Mini-Hopper
BrookTroutAngler replied to BrookTroutAngler's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
Thanks guys. Forgot to mention, if you are so inclined, you can click on the gear icon and watch it in 720P HD. -
Made my first fly tying video for my blog the other day- its mediocre, a long way from perfect, but decent enough I thought I would share it here. Pattern is the AZ Wanderings Mini Hopper, one of my favorite flies for trout in small streams and bluegill. It's even caught a few bruisers for me on the San Juan, so it's a versatile fly. Just thought I'd share in case anyone might be interested in tying this pattern.

Hey all. I seem to be having a problem recently (been going on for around 1-2 weeks) where I can't view new posts. I use this forum by logging in once or twice a day and just pressing the new posts button to view content that has been updated. However, recently when I try to view new posts I get a blank forum page (forum skin is there, just no threads) and the message: Sorry, no new content found. I don't have the patience to go into every forum topic and look for new posts, so this kinda puts a crimp on using the forum. I have tried going over to the bar on the left and changing how new content is sorted to see if it helps/changes anything, but to no avail. Anyone else have this problem/insight on how to get the new post feature to work? Never had a problem with it before. Is it just my computer or is it some other problem?

Posting pictures to this site
BrookTroutAngler replied to ddman's topic in Site Help and Suggestions
This happens to me as well even with direct link. What sometimes works is hitting post twice. So you get that little error message, get rid of the message, and then hit post again. That only works some of the times though. If that doesn't work go ahead and post it without the pictures, then use the advanced editor to add your img codes and post off of that. This is the ticket for me. -
Yes, over the counter drugs do a lot more than just what they are intended for. 200 doses of acetaminophen (Tylenol) doubles your lifetime chances of kidney failure, however slim they are to start with. Aspirin and ibuprofen as you found out aren't much better under some conditions. I also wonder why they didn't try to cauterize the blood vessel. Unless it was in a location that could not be reached by a small cauterization tool. Glad to hear in the end you are OK.

Beginners Swap
BrookTroutAngler replied to riffleriversteelheadslayer's topic in Fly Swaps & Contests
Yup, learned that trick of securing a bead with wire myself several months ago. Works great. Plus you can use a little extra and get the weight of a tungsten bead with the cheaper price of a brass bead. -
Beginners Swap

REcieved mine as well, they look awesome! Kudu, I don't think you have to worry about "sticking" anyone with an ugly fly, those articulated streamers are pieces of art! Not one fly looked like a beginner tied it. Really excellent. -
What deal did he offer? Is it still valid? 25% off total order for FTF forum members and it ended two or three days ago.

**Fer Immediate Release** Coolidge, Arizona (February 21 2012 or 2013, can't remember because of this hangover) In response to the pending allegations against one BrookTroutAngler, and the provocative act of banning an innoncent client, one Colton Rowland, from a high stakes competition, his attorney Bubba Smith offers this statement- "We are doing everything we can to clear the name of my innocent client. One case of mistaken fish identification does not a cheater make. My client has recently been having a hard time identifying tarpon and other fish species, likely due to a crick in his neck which has been affecting brain waves. His doctor, Samuel Mudd the fifth, concurs with this theory and also offers his own insight into this case": 'What we have here is a simple case of discriminatory banning. One PeterJay is only outlawing my patient from the competition because of his incredible intellect and groundbreaking skills in the areas of fly tying and fishing. The jealousy here is obviously what caused the false accusations and permanent ban to be brought against my patient. In addition, it is my professional opinion, and a well known fact, that PeterJay would not know a tarpon if it slapped him in the face. This is due to the fact that he spends too much time near the ocean, and the saltwater has no doubt removed any trace of lucidity from his conscience. I mean this in no way as an insult, but suggest that PeterJay seek immediate relief through a bottle of Jack Daniels after which he hopefully will not even remember banning my patient.' When asked if he had any formal reply to PeterJay, the accused offered this simple statement: 'Karma's a B***' Bubba Smith went on: "I may not be a smart man (likely due to his addiction to beer) but if there is one thing I know it's that my client is the finest, most upstanding young man I have ever met. Just yesterday I offered him a beer, and he absolutely refused, citing his underage status and the previous three beers which he felt was enough. I've never known a teenager with such self-control and a good heart. We will appeal this case to the TSMT Tournament Eligibility Committee and we hope that justice will be served." When asked if he had anything else to add, Mr. Smith went on to say "To whoever has my car keys, it's not funny, and I want them back."

FTF Video: - SkinneyWhopper - The one that got away

I've learned the hard way to never reel in past your fly line leader connection when fighting fish that take line. -
What fish do you like to fish for?
BrookTroutAngler replied to FishBoone's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
Do you have to ask? -
I pretty much agree with what has been said. I mainly tie dries and nymphs size 10-22, and I use 8/0 or 70 denier for all of that. I'll even use 8/0 on a size 6 woolly bugger. I reserve 6/0 and 3/0 for tying BIG streamers. I'd recommend 8/0. But like flytire said buy both and try them out to see what works best for you.

Thanks Chefben4. I'm going to try it out on bluegill for sure come April, and I know from friends experience that it is a proven trout slayer.
