  1. Or, as I believe it to be, to make a fly that actually looks like a turkey as opposed to a fly made from turkey feathers. I don’t have the ability but I also don’t have any style so what the hell, somebody has to lose. I’m in! I will post the first mess that comes out of the vice. Should be great fun.
  2. I found this for the 4000 it’s on the second page under Rotary actuator assembly and disassembly. https://www.renzetti.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/C-4010-Customer-Instructions.pdf
  3. The vise is pretty great and I really like breaking it out and tying on it. It solidly holds small hooks but I did try three different forceps before I found the one that worked the best. When I first saw the simplicity in it and Rim Chung tying on his, I just had to make one for myself.
  4. RS2 Hook - tiemco 101size 20 Thread - Gray 12/0 veevus Tail - Tan micro fibbets Body - Light olive and Adams gray. Wing - a loop of green Krystal flash on one and white Antron on the other and my Rim Chung knock off vice. I have more of a bend in the stem because I didn’t like how upright his is. Next fly is Lefty’s Deceiver
  5. I’ll take the RS2 and I’ll tie it on my official Rim Chung RS2 tying vise.
  6. How do we know this is real? I’m beginning to think this gun room is nothing more than a very realistic miniature 3D printed gun room. Come to think of it I’m beginning to think your movie room, your bonsai garden, everything is just a miniature 3D printed life. You almost got me, very well done! Just in case I’m wrong though, this is a super impressive gun room. Nice job!
  7. My fishing is always great fun but I went out less than I have in many years for a number of reasons. First being almost 5 years ago I retired from a job I worked at for 30 years to work at my current job. I went from 11 weeks paid time off to 3. That was a difficult adjustment but thankfully I really enjoy what I do. Since I don’t fish on weekends this really cut into my fishing time as I always took time off during the work week to fish. I don’t care how many days I don’t fish, I refuse to go out on the weekend. This year my final daughter got married as did some of my friends kids. I’ve been to 6 weddings this year and they all required out of state travel and time off work. This year I made more money then ever before, gained another great son in law, and I’m always honored to be invited to the weddings of kids I have known since their birth. Since family, friends and career have always come before fishing, I rate this year as one of my best years ever. An added bonus is my fishing days have to increase next year.
  8. I haven’t watched the news in decades. I don’t google search news. Headlines, clickbait and snappy photos don’t capture my attention even a little bit. I just learned of the recent tragedy at lunch today when others were talking about it. It’s very sad but these events will continue as long as society points the blame in the headline grabbing, clickbait, snappy photos direction. So I guess I’m saying we are worse off.
  9. Since we are all going to die, death is a part of life. I choose to fondly remember the life lived and not the death or possessions at the time of death. As for my stuff, I leave no instructions and have no concern about what becomes of it. Throw it out, keep it, give it away, sell it, I don’t care. You can donate my entire estate to a cat if you want. Fortunately I didn’t raise idiots so I’m confident they will figure out what’s best for them. I do see someone getting a great deal on my 33 year old boat (I love my boat) and my fishing gear going to the landfill. I see my guns being chopped up into little pieces since I know my children don’t want them and wouldn’t want them out on the street in the hands of people unknown to us. Frankly, I’m okay with that as well. I hope that fellas family has fond memories of the life lived and that they get what they want for the stuff. Price seems a little high to me though.
  10. If you’re not careful you’re gonna have enough flies for four months. Keep it up, they look great.
  11. Where do you guys who thought 75 bucks paid for the part and installation by a qualified technician live? I want to move there.
  12. There’s an old saying, some people model and some people draw. Okay, maybe I just made that up. I don’t strip, errant misdirected crappy laying hackle don’t bother me. I wonder if stripping off one side is beneficial for straight fibers when using the lesser grade hackles that I use.
  13. No your not crazy, you just need to change the batteries in your tin foil hat. We all do what works best for us. I answer my phone every time it rings. I figure if something bad happens to a family member I’m going to get a call from an unknown number. I surely wouldn’t want to miss that because of, what?, I might have to hang up on a telemarketer? I get so few spam calls that I can’t remember the last one I got. I don’t give my phone number out just because an entity or website asks for it to open an account. If I am absolutely required to enter a telephone number I give them my old number when I was a kid. Legitimate places that need account info don’t call anymore, they send emails and texts. It’s that simple to protect yourself from telemarketers. Much more effective than not answering your phone when it rings. i don’t care what google or the NSA know about me. I lead a very boring life. I sleep soundly at night knowing the NSA is up all night potentially violating the rights of non USA citizens who have no USA constitutional protections and want to cause me harm.
  14. It’s been brought up a hundred times and I’m afraid if it’s not fixed by now it will never be fixed. While not optimum, it really isn’t that difficult to navigate through the pages. Just hold down the page number and open in background. Again, it sucks but it’s more annoying (if you let it) then it is difficult to navigate through the pages. I’m thankful the site is still here, it’s free, there’s not blinking adds appearing everywhere and it is far and away the best fly tying site out there. I’d rather deal with a minor inconsequential navigation issue than FB or most other sites. It would be really great to have it working like a Swiss watch but it’s not going to happen so might as well embrace the good and not focus on the bad.
  15. I can but I won’t. After being in what I believed to be an almost air disaster in a small turbo prop plane I vowed to never again get in a small plane. I’m not much of a fan of big planes either and I know big commercial Jets are less capable of flight then smaller planes but I still ain’t ever getting into a small plane. Not for scenery, not for fly fishing, not for trout, nope not for nothing. It’s why I’m buying an RV. If I can drive there, maybe one day. If I have to take a small plane I’m out.
  16. Bummer. I always enjoyed and will miss your other stuff.
  17. Nice tie but It’s maize and blue. GO BLUE!
  18. That was the perfect video to watch while enjoying my first cup of rainy Saturday morning coffee. I can start my day pleased. Thanks for sharing.

    Life change

I wouldn’t throw in the towel just yet. There are eye exercises to correct that and you are young enough to pull it off. I would give eye exercises a whirl and then go get another eye doctor for another exam/opinion. one thing I never like to do is pigeon hole myself as a trout or bass fishermen only. I do it all and enjoy all, I fly fish, spin fish, ice fish, bait fish, I fish for catfish, carp, trout, bass, walleye, stripers, founders, sunnies, pickerel and whatever else swims. I recognize that as I get older I may have to adjust fire so I want to be just as good at fishing corn for carp as catching little colorful fish on a fly rod. keep the chin up there are plenty of options, you just need a little time for it to settle in and figure this out and figure it out you will. Good luck! I wish you well.
  20. Hot pink and black ice, nice combo. I’ve yet to catch a carp on one but the SMB love them. Maybe the carp like a hot pink tail. I’ll report back on that. Nice tie!
  21. I think I have every color they make.
  22. What no custom painted 3D printed horn helmet?
  23. STAYNER DUCKTAIL my version with only a slight deviation from the original. I like this pattern so much I tied another variation. I’m excited to fish these. Hook - Mustad size 10 3XL Thread - UTC 70, black Tail - Orange chicken feather fibers Rib - Gold flashabou. 2nd one has a green flashabou rib Body - Med yellow pearl chenille dabbled with a black sharpie. No sharpie on 2nd. Throat - Orange chicken feather fibers Wing - Mallard flank dyed olive Next up is one of my favorite SMB flies, the HYBRID CARP FLY
