-
Hi, I thrw together one that is 18" by24" it is plenty of room to work on but not to large
-
Thanks the drawing explains alot and that the purpose, the beads I have are for 8-10 although they will work on 12s. I will have to get some for smaller hooks
-
thanks, I just passed up some pancake fans at a sale, never gave the wire a thought, can't check with a fly shop, I have none
-
How do you get a bead on a hook, I got some beads, 5/32 or 3.8 MM, for a 6-10 hook. they won' go on a size 14 what am I doing wrong
-
I am not asking for exact rules I am a dumb beginner and not an electrician so I don't know wire sizes. I have got some 18-2 strand but they are getting to big, they are ok on a size 10 nymph or larger streamers but it is to bulky for 12 and 14 and when I do 16 I may need something smaller, BUT I need to know what is smaller
-
thanks for the advice, I have to order my wire and don't want to buy more of what I have that is to big. I am tying smaller so I need less bulky wire
-
Hi what size wire would I want for size10to 16 hooks. nymph patterns like gold robbed hares ear or pheasant tail type. I have some from telephone wire and a coil from a florescent light but they are kinda big

Hi, I am tying a new bucktail and this has a throat of buck tail. By the time I get the buck tail bunch small enough and short enough for the throat it is a scraggly few hairs what am I doing wrong or rather how do I do it right

Hi I tried the dry sheet and it works, I think the problem is too much static electricity, out house is very dry
-
Hi, we heat with wood so our house is quite dry,
-
could the static becaused because I store them in plastic bags, zip locks
-
Hi, I just noticed something, when stroke the bunch of cut hair to remove the extra long hair it makes the bunch fan out like a thin scraggly witches broom. It has no body and is impossible to tie in. could it be static electricity. I tried some from the base of the tail and it was impossible to handle. I have never had this hard of a time with it
-
I have tried a hair stacker , sometimes it works and some times it don't. I try to do it by hand and not to well yet. Thanks for all your suggestions, it is a great help
-
thanks, how do you know a good tail from a bad, I can't tell the difference between the hair on the tip and the hair at the base unless I see it flare on the hook. I have to buy on the net because there are no shops in my area
-
Hi, I am taking my hair from the upper part of the tail and I cut close to the skin. Here is what the finished fly looks like
-
Hi, I am tying a mickey finn on a larger hook, a #4 4XL, I am having a problem with the hair. on the longer hook the longer length of the hair makes the wing look scraggly instead of full what am I doing wrong, thanks
-
Hi, I have the bates book, very good. Thanks for the offer of the tails. I don't hunt. any way I don't think there are reds around here. But I hear they will drive other varieties away
-
thanks for your in put, this pattern has 2 colors of buck tail some natural gray squirrel and some red trhe only thing I don't have is the red. I'll get some red. I don't drive and wife won't stop for road kill, shes a city girl
-
the red squirrel is not meant to repace bucktail, it is an ingrediant of the fly, I want to know what else I can use if I can't get a squirrl tail. what tail has similar coloration. What is the difference between fox squirrel and red squirrel besides their size, thanks
-
Hi, thanks for the suggestions, I am not selling them but I try to tie as true as I can because I don't know enough to make substitutions that will work. I know their are substitutes for red squirrel but what I am concerned with is the shade of the hair. If that didn't matter I could leave it of
-
why fox squirrle that is darker than red
