  1. I am particularly partial to them myself. What's not to love, HARD fighters, not picky, and lots of them.
  2. I'm liking that flytyer! What size is that tied on?
  3. When did Hula Dancers start wearing underpants?!!! My world is imploding!
  4. Snook cruise the trough just a few feet from the sand. If you are standing in the water you are standing where you should be fishing. Now one trick is to wade out a good distance and fish back towards the sand, but that is dependent on the spot as to viability. Also Adam is correct, get too close and you will spook them. They can get really spooky. A friend of mine was fishing out of a boat and would spook any fish he was casting at. He finally figured out that he had to cast the fly onto the beach and pull it back into the water in order to not spook the fish.
  5. Dang! That looks like a hoss on a 2wt. Who had who? Best "big" fish on a small rod for me was a 5 lb LMB on a 3wt using a #14 clouser. I was not in control for most of that fight.
  6. The Abel pliers sheath came to mind when I was considering my options. Corrode is not the term I would use, but I've had lots of leather degrade because of sweat (salt rich). My guess is the salt builds up in the air spaces in the leather and it has the same effect as freezing water. I was just wondering if there was a tried and true treatment that is commonly used. I usually rinse my pliers along with the rest of my gear anyway. I'm hoping to not have to spray things down with oil or other substance every time I use the pliers. A good sealing/oiling every once in a while is par for the course, no problem with that.
  7. Use Q-tip tubes and silicone fuel tubing. Melt the end of the tube with a lighter to make a head/collar on the tube. Go to a hobby shop that caries RC engines for the fuel line, take a tube with you to test fit.
  8. Well after a few years of just barely not quite being frustrated enough with my fishing pliers to pitch them, they deep sixed themselves this weekend and solved the problem for me. Well as luck would have it I was in ACE hardware looking for SS bead chain to repair the flush mechanism of my toilet (yes I bought extra) and I was side tracked by the fishing dept. A new pair of pliers followed me home that should hopefully work better for my purposes than the last pair. Unfortunately they did not come with a sheath, so I need to make one. I like leather sheaths and I have lots of leather to make one (lots of "scrap chunks" and a couple of half hides) but I'm not sure how to treat the leather so it does not disintegrate from saltwater exposure in short order. I know we have a few leather workers here, any suggestions? Boil in wax? Polymer treatment (like future floor polish)? Good old fashioned oil? The other option is to make it out of nylon or kydex, I don't have any issues with either or those or even a combo, I just like leather better. It may come down to the PITA factor. Thanks
  9. Sitting upright in a chair for long periods produces back pain. I almost always sit in a recliner and use a lap board with apedestal base when tying. I don't see why that won't work in a car. I have reservations about the safety of doing so since even the slightest bump can drive a hook point or scissor tips home but that is up to you. If you wonder about how many bumps there are on our roads, just close your eyes next time you are a passenger and focus on it or hold out you hand like you have a glass full to the brim with water in your hand and see how often it moves enough to where it would spill even a little. Personally I would start to turn green within a few minutes anyway. I can't read in cars or trains either, airplanes are fine as long as we aren't on the ground moving. It drives me crazy.
  10. Nautilus has a very good reputation. If they are out of your price range then check out Lamson. I've been very pleased with all of mine. The drag system is the same for all of their reels you just pay more or less depending on the material and method of manufacture between models. Sierra Trading Post usually has discontinued models (or soon to be), join the email list and get substantial savings (25% off their listed prices for Gurus right now).
  11. LOL! If you really want go ice fishing sometimes sacrifices are necessary, even in Florida! Gotta love a place where you go duck hunting in shorts and a t-shirt because you get to hot otherwise. Don't get me started trying to find camo boots that aren't insulated.
  12. I beg to differ, we have ice fishing. It's call fishing a bug out of your Gin & Tonic while floating in the pool! Pick whatever month you want.
  13. Hands down, in saltwater it would be Tarpon.
  14. I live in SW FL, 100% humidity without rain is a way of life. I have not had an issue when using clear goo hydro. I was going to suggest checking your batteries but I see you already have. Perhaps Silver Creek can chime in as he does seem to know the ins and outs of UV activated resins (not just his own product).
  15. It's been bad. Lee county was also declared a disaster area or whatever they are calling it because of the discharges fro this and previous years. They were supposed to reduce discharge, but I have not had the opportunity to really look since then. I hope to be fishing around Placida, Bull Bay, and Turtle bay tomorrow, I doubt I will see much there one way or another.
  16. Wow, Seriously??? They have rules on your line and size of hooks??? What kind of Nazi prison are you living in??? Time to remove the wardens! I hope I don't live long enough to see that kind of BS here... To late: Catch and release, single hook, circle hooks, barbless, artificial only, fly only, tin weights(no lead), creel limits, size limits, no motors zones, manatee zones, paddlecraft only, walk in only, can't touch river bed, must stay below high water mark, and the list goes on. Just about every body of water I have ever been on had some form of regulation. Do I agree with all of them? No. Do I agree with some of them? Yes. I'd have to look at the reasoning behind the regulations Adam mentioned before I pass judgement on those particular ones.
  17. Thanks, it would be a pleasure. Those little trackers are very capable boats.
  18. Mike, around the Melbourne area I always had trouble finding bigger bream this time of year on the St. Johns. Water was usually over the banks and the fish went with it.
  19. Now mike be a little more environmentally sensitive....use UNleaded. What were you thinking?
  20. I'd love to go, but alas I'm not in the industry...
