  1. My latest tutorial. Enjoy and thanks for watching!
  2. This is a foam beetle variation I recently started tying. When I made the video I called it the "Disco Beetle" because of the flash on the under side of the fly. After I posted the video I saw another pattern also called the Disco Beetle. So I guess someone already beat me to that name. Oh well, haha. Let me know what you think. Thanks for watching!
  3. It depends on the fly your tying. If you want a buggy looking nymph or creating bulk on a streamer body then dubbing loops are awesome! But I would not use a dubbing loop for a dry fly when I need a tightly compact dubbed body. Dubbing loops are awesome, I use them a lot. I don't think there is a downside. They just have their time and place to be used like anything else.
  4. Hey McFly, It is interesting your first video is getting more views. I agree with Shoebop's point. Maybe its because the title of the first episode is kinda clickbaitish. Don't get me wrong, its not really click bait because you DO loose some nice trout! But since the title directly talks about a "MONSTER Trout" I think more people would be willing to click on it. The second video just says Episode 2. Doesn't Sound quite as exciting. Just my thoughts. Both videos are good though!
  5. Thanks Bryon! The possibilities are truly endless with this one. The one in the video is only my fourth attempt at the fly. I can think of many many materials this fly can be tied with. I was just sticking to the original pattern, but by all means, try some different materials out! I know I will!
  6. Nothing too large. You can make the collar any size you like. But just do a single spin of deer hair behind the cone head and trim the butts. make sure you stack the tips first as well. I have a video showing how I tied the fly below. This collar maybe a bit large for your fly, but like I said you can adjust the length accordingly. Or keep it the way you tied it. Either way it will catch fish!
  7. Cone head + a deer hair collar to hide the butts of the marabou would look sweet! I think it will fish well with or without our suggestions though. Sweet fly!
  8. Haha, Yes it is a ton of feathers!! And a lot of time too. Thats why I glue so much throughout it. Thanks!
  9. Hey guys, Just finished this video last night. It was a really fun fly and video to make. Hope you enjoy! Please let me know what you think. Critiques welcome! Thanks for watching.
  10. Cheech, can these be used with the copic airbrush system? They look like they are the same shape roughly...
  11. Thanks Hazathor. Looks like you have them all figured out too! No worries Bryon, I understood. Right now I'm just using some hook shanks from a large stock of unfavorable hooks I have, along with some connecting wire. It takes some effort to tie up each connection, but I get pretty much the same result with literally zero cost since I have so many of these disposable hooks right now.
  12. Thanks for all the ideas and advice guys! I think I'm pretty happy with how they are turning out right now. IMO the eyes are very cool, but I think they are used to catch more fisherman than fish. I think I will just do without until I get some jungle cock someday. I just made an instructional video outlining how I tie them. In the process of editing it now. It will be up this Friday. Hope it helps someone out! a pic of the latest below...
  13. This is NOT my fly....but as you can see the jungle cock eyes look sweet... 12599270_1723745197860581_1588631229_n.jpg
  14. The only reason I haven't added eyes is because I want the head to keep its round profile. I think if I glued eyes on it would flatted the sides of the head when I press them on. I think some jungle cock eyes would be perfect for this fly....but alas I have none :/ been searching around my desk for something that could substitute for jungle cock but no luck yet...
  15. I think its looking better already. Added more segments, but made them smaller. Added some flash and a larger, darker head. Attached are also the feathers I used. Total length of the fly is 4.5''. Pretty nice size I think! I'll probably make one with a white head and I have a tan saddle to use for the body. These things are going to become addicting I think, haha...
  16. Thanks! The picture in the post below are the feathers I used. As you tie the body segments you have to work down the hen cape to work with the natural tapper of the feathers. Use the larger feathers as you work towards the head. I trick I found was to use three feathers at once and wrap them all at once to get the nice thick body. Finish the head with three shleppen feathers tied in and wrapped together.
  17. Thanks Philly, I'll add some flash to the next one and see how it turns out!
  18. Thanks Hatchet, Havent swam it yet so I guess we'll find out! Appreciate the suggestion though.
