vicrider, no worries! I had seen michaelray's post and knew i was at least second in line. I have an email alert set up now so if there is a swap that comes along, I'll know about it with the "quickness".

I just quit drinking coffee a few years back.
That's just wrong, Mike.
I don't drink coffee because I'm addicted to caffeine, I drink it to make the headaches stop.....
hahahahaha! Tru Dat!

Back in the mid 80's i would go with my Dad to the gold exchange in L.A. The guy that did a lot of selling there would snap his fingers and 3 Turkish coffees would appear. To this day I remember that and the grounds on the bottom of the little cup. Nothing since has been close to that. 30 years ago now...

I love your style Crackaig!

I see the same flies that you show in your first post also on the link you provided. I also see them on this site: http://www.flytying.ro/baetis-nymph-tied-synthetic-quill/
So I ASSuME that you did not actually tie the ones that you initially posted. Right?
He's a Pro Staffer for TroutLine so I'm guessing that the website uses his images, or at least the flies he ties.
Cheech for the WIN! (emphasis added)

I want to join you guys for that drink. Would be a hoot! Uh, but I'll choose the bar. LOL
P.s. Why do I always have this "0 warning points" under my posts status. I don't see it under anyone else's.
Does that make me a wuss? Do I need to swear more or what?
Ooooooooooo I think he knows "those" kind of bars better than us, huh J?
Silk ... you have super-duper-top-secret-covert-undercover-bad-boy points. They don't show up under your name because it would set everybody's computer on fire.
Maybe he does... Not the "Blue Oyster" is it? Also, are we considered the "bad boys" of FTF? lol... I am ex-Navy, so very little disturbs me or is considered "off limits" like normal people would...

COOL!!! I feel better. More manly. I think I'm going to go kill some rattle snakes or sky dive or somethin'.
No, you have to HALO in to where the rattlesnakes are, then kill them. Total badassery!
Or go get that tan in Kansas!

Best not get too close to Mike. I heard on FOX news last night that 'gay' is contagious.
SILKHDH, I heard that Pat Buchanan said you can catch it from the internet! You are all DOOMED!
All joking aside, you find out pretty quickly on the interwebs who can joke around and who cannot. Mikechell seems to be able to take a joke and hit you back with one too. If we ever meet, I will buy him a beverage of his choice at his favorite "Happy" bar.
I apologize for my participation in the derail/hijack of an awesome fly thread.
I would love to see a materials list LuciV

Wow! I really like those. Simple but sexy ... almost makes me wish I was a fish.
Now for the weird part. Does loving those with that red head make me gay?
Yes, yes it does... very much so, I might add...
These are crazy cool looking, might even say "sexy"... hmmm, might be joining you Mike... lol

I am interested in the Peak tying light too--J Kno I am a fellow Peak fan. I have a couple of different Ott-Lights and they are great on my bench at home, but I really like the idea of a light that would clamp right onto my vise stem for tying meetings or on-stream tying. I do think Peak is gouging pretty bad on the price, though. If anyone knows of a similar product for a more reasonable price, I'd be interested to hear about it.
Bryon,
The IKEA lamps would only need the clamp to vise and a simple plug. Plenty of directed light in a small package. I'll see if I can fab something up, if I can find some aluminum.

Nice touch with the butter, I have been using coconut oil. LOVE it! No more Fivebucks for me (Starbucks)
-
I am a Peak fan-boy, but that thing is expensive for what it is. I use this from IKEA: light. I am going to take two of these and make a mount for them that attaches to my vise: Bright idea

All good information above. Me? I think it's the pencil you tie on the point of the hook. Get rid of that, it should catch fish just fine.
Mike for the WIN!

Those Ugly Sticks were nowhere close to as light as this was... I am tempted to save some coin to try one out.

From purely an aesthetics point of view, snake foot guides are the only way to go.... For me.

Just saw this rod last weekend at the Denver Fly Show: Blue Halo It is the lightest rod I have handled and the tip was tied to the butt, the rod was completely bent over...... was amazing to hold. I didn't have a chance to cast it though..

Here's my take on it... Regardless of how much - or how little the royalty is, you are getting residual money for the life of the fly. Pretty cool by my book. I actually got my royalty check the other day and went and bought a shotgun... For work that I did 10 years ago. Rainy's flies gives 10% and does a good job of networking flies. My two top sellers are in most Cabela's stores and they have to order BOOKOO flies to keep them in stock.
That rocks! I dig your site btw.

Hahaha, Kimo, I was being sarcastic for those in the know... I was shocked to learn how much you didn't make writing a book. Now, how to turn my hobby into a write-off.... lol

All,
I really appreciate your sage advice. I had planned out 12 flies and had everything organized in a separate box for each pattern, along with one already tied to pass around while it was being "crafted". I got laughs, applause and I think just about everyone learned something. I hadn't planned on doing a demo this year. I was asked by one of the Shop managers if I would be willing to do it as a fill in, so I put everything together in 2 weeks.
Out here the fly shops have their demos planned out for the winter season, so I was luck to get my foot in the door with this one. A friend of mine said being prepared for when opportunity knocks is really important. I am ready to go the next time and I will start asking fly shops around town if they need a "Replacement/fill-in" I'm their guy. I am scheming a way to Arkansas for the Sow-Bug, but we'll see. Funds are a bit tight as we are on a budget to get all unsecured debt out of the way. After this Spring, we'll be debt free, besides the house. We can then work on fishing and/or tying trips after that.
Do we really need...
