  1. John, Thank you for the compliments. After all of the years of fishing, guiding, and tying---my greatest joy is sharing my experience and knowledge with up and coming fisherman. The better that you fish, the more value you will put upon it. The greater the value you hold for this sport, the more you want to preserve and protect what is good about fly fishing. The best dayI ever had fly fishing, I caught a father and his two sons. I can't remember if we even caught a fish that day. But if fly fishing was only the fish I wouldn't do it. That's why I made it my hobby and occupation.
  2. Hey luvinblugills, Those sculpins aren't hard to tie, the worst part is the trimming. After this article has been out for a while I'll post the other five color variations that they didn't get in the magazine or website. Thanks for the compiment.
  3. Hey yeh, The last time my name was in a national magazine it was Sports Illustrated, when Latrel Spreewell choked his coach. I think I made the back page. Dave, good to here from you. I will be at the Sowbug RoundUp. I am suppose to speak on something. I think I am going to talk about ultra-light fly fishing for trout. I'm going to call it "A Trophy on a Thread". I have a new 10-foot, 1-weight rod that I am using. It also comes in 2-4 weight. I'm going to include the flies for this type of fishing also. Hope to see you there.
  4. Smallie Hunter, Thanks, I'll try to remember that.
  5. Okay, try this link,Threadfin Shad New Concept Minnow, Floating dead
  6. This is my New Concept Minnows tied dead or dying. All of my patterns can be tied dead (floating with the belly up) or live (floating with the belly down). These are faster to make than poppers. These are my favorites in the summer in the slower current and fishing under the shade of the bank. You can tie them so they float real high, neutral buouancy, or slow descend---the choice is yours. By adjusting the size of the dumbbell eye to the hook and size of the pattern, you can create the three different floating minnows. There is another method of fishing this same minnow. Build a High Floating, Live minnow and fish it with a full sinking line. The advantage is to fish deep over structure without getting fouled up or snagged. You can fish right above weed beds, treetops, boulder, logs and any other structure. You can fish the bottom with a very slow retrieve or a very fast. The suspending action of these minnows fished this way is a killer for all Bass, Walleye, Stripers, Musky, and even a couple of catfish. Here is a link that will explain them more,New Concept Minnow Article .
