  1. Will any beach in the area work as long as I get out before he Crowds? Obviously other than those that say no fishing...
  2. Thanks for the replies everyone! I think we will stick to the salt as $120 for us to fish both is a bit much. The idea of a snook in the surf sounds great. I remember seeing them right against the shore last time I was there swimming. But jacks, trout, even ladyfish would be cool. Any recommendations on beaches that arent too crowded to fish? Focus on baitfish flies or shrimps, crabs, and sands fleas too?
  3. The girlfriend and I will be in the Tampa area June 1-8. Looking to maybe get into some fishing. Exotics (cichlids, tilapia, etc.) and saltwater surf/beach are my main goals. Anyone willing to shoot me some spots and/or meet up in that time frame? Got a 3 wt and a 7 wt!
  4. Mine are done. Just gotta get them in the mail.
  5. Is the stripped one brittle? If not, you couldve just made a new spey hackle alternative.
  6. Peterjay, what is the wing on the first fly? Is the hook bent? Also is it weighted?
  7. They are. Ive been bitten by them while seining eel grass in Lake George to catch grass shrimp for bait.
  8. Another beautiful bird. Congrats sir!
  9. Usually its no gun hunting in city limits. Most places have no problem with archery. I actually hunt a property (gun for deer, small game) that falls in city limits. Never had a complaint or the sheriffs office called on me. We go out there to shoot ARs and other rifles. Its about 100 acres right on the outskirts of the city.
  10. I love the breast cut into strips, seasoned and breaded, and pan fried! We also use the thigh meat for turkey and dumplings. Its a bit tough and stringy on wild birds for anything else.
  11. Thats awesome. I love getting out and hearing them gobble. The interaction back and forth with the birds gets my blood pumping.
  12. Wow! Nice bird! I had one in to 15yds full strut, couldnt raise the shotgun because a hen was standing about 10ft to my right. Maybe another opportunity will present before season ends here in Ga. Again, sweet bird. Especially with a bow.
  13. I will retract my previous statement. I had mixed up super hair and supreme hair. Daggum synthetic materials.... bah humbug hahahahaha
  14. Flats, lots of species of gar occur in south Florida naturally. But spotted dont. And the water would be too warm for them.
  15. The lower jaw is also two bones (just like ours) and a big, sharp hook drove home with a hard strip can set in the tissue between the lower jaw bones. Of course the best way to catch gar is without a hook. Untwisted poly rope. They tangle their jaws up when they snap it like mike described. I have had gar roll on a fly, and it wrap around the snout, hook it on the leader, and tighten down like a noose on the gar, and caught it that way. Just a freak incident haha.
  16. It always makes me happy to see you post about that Steve. Congratulations! Im trying to convince my parents to quit.
  17. Regardless, wonderful catches Islander! Looks like a fun day of fishing.
  18. Yep spotted gar only in the panhandle. Florida gar maybe? The color is right for longnose but that bill is just too short Id say.
  19. Lead wire will be your friend, or if in doubt some tiny splitshot can help. Others have covered the hair thing but I figured Id add in since you said you didnt wanna buy beadheads. Im sure you have dumbbell eyes and beadchain eyes too.
  20. I use them a lot for hooks and beads, even ordered flies from them once.
  21. I regularly fish maggie valley and Cherokee. As long as the water isnt up, quality fishing can be had in Maggie valley (Johnathon Creek) from several public access points on a $5 license. Fishing in GSMNP is also pretty great. Check out the Rivers Edge Outfitters in Cherokee. Justin Pilat and Justin Hunt will be able to point you to fish.

  23. I think its more about more severe climate extremes and natural disasters. Winters are getting colder, summers hotter and drier. Bad natural disasters are happening more frequently and in places they havent historically.
  24. Sandfly, theyd awesome. Ive not yet had the pleasure to meet a rattler on the water. Thanks for not killing it too! Sweet Garter pics! Ive only found one of those buggers. I have some spotted turtle, mud turtle, snapper, and slider pics to upload. A corn snake and a Hognose that came in my yard the other day, and some salamanders from NC and TN recently. Will be flossing younwith photos soon!
  25. Gorgeous photos Peter! Could you PM me the location of that spotted turtle? Not on this thread please. Im working with the Orianne Society surveying for them here in Ga and Fl but we have been encouraged to submit any sighting within their range to them. The more specific the location the better.
