Opossum vs Hare's Ear Dubbing?
Knuckledragger replied to Randyflycaster's topic in Beginner's Corner
Well it wasn't my first choice of dispatch methods. We surprised each other but I beat him to the draw and cracked him across the head with a maddock handle. I was surprised at how soft the hair was. -
Opossum vs Hare's Ear Dubbing?
Knuckledragger replied to Randyflycaster's topic in Beginner's Corner
Try it and see! I clubbed a skunk to death the other night when I caught it cruisin for a bruisin around my gamecocks. I like how the skunk hair is half white and half black on the tail. Gonna use it to tie up some baitfish or clousers. -
I really wanna go to that Agua Boa Lodge in Brazil for some of them big greasy peacock bass.

I like my wild pork a little on the rare side too!

I just fillet and debone, then just add em into the ceviche mix. Its perfect summertime beer food.

what goals have you set.....

Good goal! Because you aren't going fishing again for quite a while after the baby is born.whaa.jpg Nah..half my income is hunting/fishing. And I also wanna make sure my kid is in the outdoors as often as possible. My wife just rigged up a mount in her kayak that holds a car seat! -
I love em. Can be scaled, gutted and deep fried with the fins on, filleted then fried, blackened, baked or even in ceviche.

Nothing special for me. I drink Community. The stuff that is in all the Texas and Louisiana truckstops. It matches my soul..cheap, bitter and black.

What would be a good fly for Catfish?
Knuckledragger replied to coinman66's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
I've caught a few cats on flyrod. A few on olive hares ear nymph, a few flatheads all on clousers, but the most productive I've been has been with a hopper pattern. At a local lake I fish bass for, the channel cats cruise the shallows and will readily take a topwater fly. Can always tell when the cats move up into the shallows because all the bass and bluegill will stop hitting suddenly. -
whats your worst fly fishing blooper?
Knuckledragger replied to flytire's topic in Fly Fishing Gear & Techniques
I've shortened 3 flyrods due to rolling them up in my truck windows. -
That's an understatement. I've lost count of the number of countries I've travelled to to hunt and fish, but Mexico is the only country I've ever have a gun pulled on me by a cop demanding money after asking for directions or seen severed heads of cartel members propped up on buckets alongside the highway. "Come to Mexico for the food and warm weather..stay because you got decapitated!"

Id be there to fish, not to go to jail. Don't break their laws and there wont be any trouble.

You got that right. I do love fishing in Florida. Not many places I can go to and catch 20 different species in that many casts. Plus they have Cubans there!
-
I've heard about the high consumption rate of fish there, but I figured it was worse in the lakes. Jimmy Houston fished Cuba a while back..caught his largest bass there ever..maybe 13#? But reports of 17#+ fish float around. Since the locals arent advocates of C&R, those fish may be limited. But with year round warm weather, the growth rates may be pretty impressive.

The president speaks about diplomatic relations, travel restrictions and establishing trade... All I can think about is new flats fishing opportunities!

I use to want those so bad when I was a kid. They were on the back of every comic book with their crowns on and sitting at a table and all lol That was my first experience with false advertisement. They weren't monkeys nor did they wear crowns and sit at tables. After I microwaved the second batch because I thought the water needed to be warmer, mom stopped getting them for me.

Yeah its definitely good info to know. And its knowledge that's been around for thousands of years.

Fish. When i was the farm supervisor at the prison, we had plans to fill in this small pond to make room for more cattle pens. This pond was filled with channel cat and crappie. A couple convicts asked me if they could try to pull some fish out of the pond before it got drained and filled in. I told em have at it, not knowing how they'd do it, but that wasn't my problem. Day or 3 later, these convicts show up with a mail sack filled with green hickory nuts with the husk smashed that they picked up while working on a road crew. They pitched it in the pond with a rock in the sack and sat down to wait. Wasn't long they were cleaning fish on the pond dam. Wasnt a fish left in that pond when they drained it.

Burlap bag full of green hickory nut husks is much quieter than a grenade, and less incriminating than the crank telephones.

What are your favorite Thanksgiving memories?
Knuckledragger replied to Chromez's topic in The Lodge
My favorite memory on Thanksgiving happens every year. Its when all my in-laws drive away and their taillights fade away into the night. -
How did you get into fly fishing?
Knuckledragger replied to Chromez's topic in Fly Fishing Gear & Techniques
A good fishing buddy of mine died suddenly a few years ago. Shortly after his death, and after his kids had looted his house as relatives often do, his wife called me up and told me to come over and take what I wanted of his fishing gear. What I didn't take, she was gonna take to the dump. While gathering up rods and gear, his wife hands me a long tube case and said "Maybe you'll get some use out of this." Hell I thought it was a pool stick or something. A few months later I was respooling some of the reels I got from his wife when in saw that long case leaning up against the wall. I unzipped it and found a Browning fly rod. Never knew my buddy ever fly fished. Put it back in the case and forgot about it. Few months later I was bass fishing and Was having a rough year finding big fish. I was getting burned out and I was losing sight of what fishing to me is all about and that's having fun. I remembered how much fun I used to have catching bluegill on grasshoppers and stuff, and I remembered my friends fly rod. After about a months worth of YouTube instructional videos, I bought a reel, line and a few flys and went to one of the ponds on my place and started "casting" for little bass. After my first one, I was hooked. Been several years since I first strung my friends rod. Lots of hours on youtube learning how to do stuff because I dont know anybody personally who flyfishes. I own several fly rods now, and keep one with me on all my travels. I've caught barramundi and saratoga in Australia, jack crevalle and redfish in Texas, Mayan cichlids and peacock bass in Miami and crappie and catfish in my local lake all on my flyrods. Always have room for a flyrod in my truck or travel bags!
