  1. I like it. could not have you used the white for the cheeks and just sharpie colored it? but excellent job!
  2. Burbot good eating, ugly, and not really fun to catch. You basically skin them when you clean them. Actually only caught them ice fishing. A mouse or a surface popper would work good for the pike in shallower water. There was a good discussion on appropriate leaders not long ago I believe
  3. I think what you would have to do is tie in the underbody on ventral of hook, tie in overbody on dorsal of hook, tie in barbell. When brought back to wrap off the underbody would wrap in front of barbell and become the overbody and vise versa. Thje gill band would help hold everything secure (along with UV cure)???? In this fasion I don't think it would be nesc to tie the fly upside down??? Silver wire - my eyes are not as sharp as they once were
  4. Now that I think of it black dumbell eyes may be a better choise. The braided mylar tubing is tied in close to hook eye and tied off at the tail. So you could tie on the tubing, then tie on the dumbells. This shoul dform a bigger weighted head when the over and under body are tied off??
  5. Hook: 4x ringed eye Tail: Congo hair Rust Underbody: mylar tubing Overbody: Mylar tubing Body: gold tinsel ribbed with silver wire Underwing: green congo hair Overwing:grey congo hair highlighted with black sharpie Cheeks: congo hair rust Gill band: rust tying thread Eyes: glue on Head: UV cure Throat Belly:Congo hair belly Well I tried Doug
  6. My appology in my old age I got too excited, I picked up the document in 2000 not 1990. Any way I found it. Mr Clouser attaches the thread 1/3 the distance the length of the hook behind the eye and builds a bump with thread. He attaches the barbell eyes just behind the bump and ties them in as normal. This is from the leaflet. He states and I quote "The Clouser Minnow is a style of fly tying and not a specific pattern" Doug
  7. I knew I had a pic on this computer, From his shop from way back when
  8. Dude, I 've got a leaflet of clouser instructions I picked up from Bob at his shop in PA in probably 1990, somewhere. If I can find it I'll photocopy it and send you a copy Doug
  9. The book "What Fish See" is a neat reference by Dr Kageyama if intetrested. I think it is still under $15.00
  10. Steeldrifter, I believe you may be thinking about the Red Wolf frrom SE USA. I believe it was declared extinct, but don't know if that status has changed
  11. I'm right handed, left eye dominant. The only thing I can do left handed is shoot clay pigeons, both eyes open. I bird hunt right handed, left eye closed. Told you I was backwards
  12. I'm a little backwards. Cast right handed, switch hands, retrieve right handed. It's the way I started and not about to change at my age. I did however give LHR a chance last year - and I was clumsy as a cub bear.
  13. I like it flytire. May not survive a second fish but looks easy and quick enough to tie Doug
  14. As Mike said you can put a tip on the tip if it was a clean break. Crushed is never a good thing. I would buy a new rod and keep this one for spare parts for when it happens again
  15. Awesome G & A, Thank you very much, it was a pleasure to read last night Doug
  16. Buy a small inexpensive kit to begin with. Sometimes you can even find used stuff. If you are looking to save money tying flies - probably not.. What it will afford you is an oppertunaty to make flies you just can't buy in stores. Thats the fun part. Tying requires a lot of practice to get good at. A lot of tyers on this site are masters, and have spent decades perfecting their art - and their creations are truly art. And most sound advice take a course if one is offered in you area, if not try and find a competant mentor. When it comes to using tools, knots, nomenclature etc you will save time. All the Best!! Doug
  17. GC That river running thru your back yard sure produces some nice fish. Love your fish picture posts.
  18. Not any more, eyes just get too tired. I do get to the vice once a week though
  19. Great Investigative Job Norm!
  20. I think it predates me by a bit. From my research on google it appears to be at least 80 years old, no manufacturer was identified. One however sold last June on E bay for $22 USD. Hope this helps Douig

    Late garden

Nice garden Denduke! I can see Buddy the cat doing his rounds for rodents and suspicious birds, but do you think that plastic barrier fence will actually repel the deer?
  22. When I was 8 years old my fly fishing career started with a 6 foot ultralite fenwick spinning outfit. We fished mainly small creeks back then and I lost more flys then caught fish. Dad bought me a fly tying kit for Christmas that year and the rest is history. I'll be 60 this month. Doug
