Anyone know anything about Hooks USA or VMC hooks?
Losthwy replied to Losthwy's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
Thanks. That hook seems to be similar to the Partridge Predator (CS 86) which has the "Aberdeen Bend". I've been looking for less expensive version. The VMC comes out to roughly $0.10 ea verses $0.90 for the Partridge. -
http://www.hooksusa.com/hooks/fresh-water-sport/universal/national-round-universal-hook They have a hook made by VMC never heard of them but they are very reasonable. Anyone know anything about them?

This could make a decent fly tying kit bag for little money
Losthwy replied to Bugsy's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
I've got an older Orvis fly tying travelers Cordova bag . It's a 3 ring binder style with 10 vinyl bags and assorted pockets front and back. 13L X 9w X 5H. I only used it once. I'll sell it for $25 if anyone needs one. -
What's the best type of glue to glue on plastic eyes. It may be a "mylar" type material, dunno. I want to glue to painted wood. I do super glue, head cement and UV resin on hand. Needs to be very strong.

Salmon/steelhead they are the best looking flies.

Both I mainly Czech nymph so the anchor fly is always beaded with tungsten. the other one/two may or may not.

Large Brook Trout. followed by Rainbow/Cuthrout.
-
Both. Depends on what I'm tying.

I recently scoured the web for the best streamer patterns. Of course the wooly bugger was one mention the most often. And the colors where Black and Olive.

Knotless but extend the life of them by adding additional line when they break. I just bought a "fast tie tool", no more surgeon knots. I should of bought this tool years ago. LOVE it.

10.0 man cave, aquarium is a nice touch.

An important aspect is innovation. Things to evolve, to improve. Who fishes with silk threads anymore? The same lame argument has been going on for 200 years.

Nice fish what large black pattern is that?

Well done. -
I found this site through searching for something or the other on the web. I've been registered on NAFF for a while. Some good info here. I do wish it had a search function. Metro Denver area. Been in Colorado since 1998. Planning on retiring to the west slope of Colorado in about 5 years. Not sure where GJ, Delta, Montrose, or other.

Looks good. You fished this yet?

Pedestal Base or C-Clamp....That is the question
Losthwy replied to Hanapaa808's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
My vote for pedestal. -
Nice color. Looks like an oriental rug.

I'm guessing that is the reason for multiple loops at the head.

LOL. Asbestos is your friend.

Difference in Rabbit and Pine Squirrel strips?
Losthwy replied to Losthwy's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
That clears that up. And the straight vs cross cuts was helpful. Thanks -
What is the difference in rabbit and pine squirrel zonker strips? Are they interchangeable for patterns like sculpszilla and bunny leeches?
-
Thanks for posting that. I will definitely try that. The caption questions the need for multiple loops maybe it needs that due to burning the thread, dunno? No stacking, puts in on the hook with the hide attached, and burns the hair with a lighter. Different to say the least.
