  1. Hey guys, just wanted to post a quick question to all you "Euro" nymphers out there... What are a few of your favorite patterns that work anywhere and everywhere? I live in CO and fish mostly tail waters and I'm wondering which "Euro" style fly's I should tie first. Thanks!
  2. Hey guys! I'm looking to get a 3wt 6'6 rod soon to use for tight mountain streams with 6-8 inch brook trout and I'm wondering what line would be best? I'm not sure if there is a specific line for this sort of thing or if I should just get any old trout line. I will very rarely be casting over 25-30 feet with this set up so I don't think I really need any of that new shooting head bla bla bla line that cost that costs almost $100 buck but again I'm really not sure. What fly line do you think would be best for this sort of thing? Thanks!
  3. I just watched this video the other day! Informative, yet crazy at the same time!
  4. 6 hours! I get frustrated when a fly takes 15 minutes!
  5. I really like the look of this pattern! looks like it would be a killer out here where I live!
  6. I've been looking through some of these realistic patterns and this has to be one of my favorites! Just looks so real!
  7. Beautiful tie! Wish I could tie half this well!
  8. I was just bouncing around the site and stumbled upon this thread and WOW, I am blown away by the realism in this fly! how could anyone bring themselves to fish such a piece of art!
  9. I know I'm a bit late to the conversation but the photo with the tree is striking! Great picture!
  10. I don't know much about photography but I did take a class in high school and I know enough to understand how difficult macro can be! Great shot!
  11. Wow! I love the colors in that photo, unbelievable!
  12. Great picture! We never get that many birds around here so that a really neat photo!
  13. Did you buy the 2mm fly foam or just use regular craft foam? I have some craft foam laying around that I might be able to use but I'm not sure its thin enough.
  14. Now if only I had a rod that could get that bug out there! Nice tie!
  15. Well I have been trying it on and off and I think I may end up doing it long term. I haven't stuck myself yet so as long as that keeps up I'm good to go! thanks again to everyone for your input!
  16. @ Mike west, I like how you also have the space for the hooks to go as well. All great Ideas guys, I cant wait to try some of this stuff myself!
  17. Thanks again! The wings will be coming in a few days so with any luck I'll be posting pictures on this thread in the next week or so for critiques! I'll probably have a few more questions when I actually get to tying them but again, thank you for the help. It's hard to find good information on this sort of thing using a google search so I am very thankful to find someone so willing to help!!
  18. Hi Crackaig, thank you so much for the response! Being new to tying, your step by step guide on how to tie them in was super helpful! I do have a few questions for you however. When you say matched pair of wings, how do you match the wings to one another. Is this just done by taking a feather from each side of the wing form the relative same spot? The link attached to this post is the material I got from J. Stockard labeled " Mallard whole wings". Is this the correct product to tie this sort of fly? Thanks again for all your help! http://www.jsflyfishing.com/hareline-mallard-whole-wings
  19. Hi guys, I was looking to tie up some blue duns and i'm having a bit of trouble. I'm wondering what feather to use off of my mallard flank to tie in the wing. If anyone's got experience in tying this sort of fly your help would be much appreciated! (the picture included is not my tie btw just found it online)
  20. Ok thanks mike I'll have to do that next time we switch ours out.
  21. @Mikechell, I really like your way of keeping the scissors close too! Did you just glue any old magnet on the top or do recommend looking for a high strength one on Amazon or such?
  22. I'll have to give it a shot but I'll be sure to be extra carefully and do my best to not stab myself! If it doesn't work out I think i'll go your route Idaho RC and get the bent ones for easier pick up.
  23. Hey guys I have a quick question for you! I am new to tying and still trying to figure out the best way to go about it. I recently saw a video where someone was "palming" there scissors. Not sure if palming is the right term for it but basically they were holding there scissors in there right hand at all times and flipped it up to there thumb to cut as needed. My question is do you use this technique and if so how do you do it and is it really worth it? Which finger do you store the scissors on? Thanks! Noah
  24. Finally showed up! Great flys!
  25. Mine never came in the mail must have got got caught up somewhere :/
