@Sandan Will do! Thanks.

@Sandan @flyflinger This article is a great testament to the Uncompahgre River: https://www.flyfisherman.com/editorial/a-colorado-gem-the-uncompahgre-river/152247#replay Thanks again for your help.

@flyflinger Thank you for your post. I will do my research on the Uncompahgre River. As to the San Juan: I have fished that amazing tail water since the 90's or thereabouts. While I have mixed emotions about the SJ, I would now prefer to fish smaller trout rivers while I am able. This last statement is made in reference to a sciatica issue with my left leg. It infuriates me, but am not certain how it will affect my fly fishing once I am on the river. I am 'going fishin'' no matter what. In clarity, I am hoping a smaller river may be easier to navigate than the SJ with the leg issue. When the time comes, the leg may not be an issue at all, but there is only one way to find out. Thanks again.

@Sandan Thank you, once again, for your suggestion. I am not familiar with the Uncompahgre River, but I will definitely look into it. Back around 8/22 you gave me some excellent advice on the South Platte. I hope it has not changed too much since that time. I appreciate your help.

@flytire Well, well, ... thanks to your nudging I think I have finally found Mr. Logan - see the following link: https://x7.io/portfolio/bill-logan/ The webpage says much to make you think that this is him. It even has a Contact page. A phone number even. I will send him an email and see if he responds. The webpage is rife with dead links which is why I have my I have my doubts but I will try. Thanks!

@Sandan Thank you for the Dolores River info.
-
@flytire Thanks for trying. I hope someone will pop up who knows how to contact him. Websites vanish for a number of reasons, so who knows? Thanks again.
-
@flytire I will bet that the river was not as popular then than it currently is. The same argument could probably be made for fly fishing in general. I do hope to make this trip happen. Thanks.
-
@Mark Knapp Thanks. I hope to do just that if I can arrange this trip.
-
Greetings, I am seeking any and all info on fishing the Upper Dolores river in Colorado. If anyone has any info on fishing this river I would love to hear it. I would like to take a fishing trip in that area next October so I am gathering as much info as I can well in advance. Thank you, Phillip

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried that and it did have his website link as shown next: Selecting his website link led to the following: His article in Fly Tier, Autumn 2017 entitled 'You Have to Believe' also had his website link. Dead end as well.

Greetings to all, I recently read a very interesting article written by none other than Bill 'Bugs' Logan. I found a link to his website here: https://www.flytyer.com/the-sure-thing/ but it did not work. Does anyone know how to contact him? Thank you, Phillip

I have tried Safari, Chrome and FireFox all with the same result. Today I cannot even view page 2 or 3. Hope this posts ...

My last image and comments keep disappearing, the reappearing, ... I see that there are three pages to this thread but I cannot visit page '3'. All of this is very unfortuante because this site used to work perfectly. Sad. Hope this will post.

I thought my image was not being posted because the site seemed to stall with a 'Saving ..' button showing. I closed the webpage, cleared my History and came back in and saw that my comments and image HAD been posted. Confusing.

Ok, I'm game .. Guess I was wrong. I pressed Submit Reply after using 'choose files...' to load an image and got the same'o same'o Forbidden message. Hmmmm ...

And, for what it's worth, here is a shot of a prototype hopper with wings made from a hula skirt I bought in Hobby Lobby a few years ago. These wings were made from a strip of yellow and green straw embellished with some permanent marker. Not the best, I know. And this is the 'hula skirt' made of swiss straw or raffene material. It is thicker than the 'fly tying swiss straw' variety. I think I paid $6 for the skirt. The colors are not 'earthy' at all, but I may still find some use for them. And to be clear, my wife gave me a 'questioning' look when I came home with this. And lastly, here are the two silicone covered test feathers. I will let them dry overnight and see how they work tomorrow. I sincerely appreciate everyone's help.
-
@niveker I forgot to note that I have completed a test feather coat using spar varnish, but the silicone method that flytire posted looks awful promising. I will try that as well. This is getting to be more fun than I would have ever imagined. I sincerely appreciate your help.
-
@niveker Wow!! Thanks so much for the link to Jack Gartside's website. Most interesting, to say the least. It is duly bookmarked. I sincerely appreciate your help.
-
@flytire I watch a lot of Ensiferum's video's and never came across the one you posted. Amazing!!!! Ok, pizza's on the way - again - and as I recall you do like anchovy's, right? You da'man!!!

Ah, you must be a mind reader. I was wondering about that exact thing. As a woodworker, I use what used to be called 'Bloxogen' (sp?), but now I use Finish Preserve from Lee Valley. When sprayed into a bottle it lays down an heavier than aid layer of inert gas that, in effect, seals off the surface of the container product thereby preventing it from skimming over. It is a great product, but spraying into a small container should be done very carefully. Thanks again for your help.
-
@niveker Spar Varnish!! I'm a woodworker and I just happen to have a can (or two ...) of that. I will give that a go and see how it works. I will report back when done. Thanks for that.
-
@SilverCreek Thank you so much for your in-depth response to my query. I can concoct that once I get a can of Toluene or Toluol. I appreciate your help.
-
I think you are absolutely correct. It's the silhouette - or what the fish sees - that really matters. Thanks.
