  1. yupp everyone got rerouted over to that site..... i'm having to log in each time i come back, sure its just some minor glitchs that will get worked out. Besides that all seems fine so post away! SD
  2. Well john yeah i think with the holidays its slowin down a bit, i know i might not even get a chance to check it tommorow myself because i have to go and finish shopping for christmas and a few other last min things. Plus i dont know if you tried getting on the site earlier but we had a hacker problem and the site was down for a few hours. I'm sure once christmas is over it will be back to normal. SD
  3. Although i agree that it is also about what leads up to hooking the fish and i would rather hook the fish on a fly that i tied,i would have no problem with useing a fly tied by another to catch a fish. The way i see it some fish respond to certian things on a fly and if my pattern does not have what that fish is lookin for then i am big enough to admit and use another fly.(but you can bet i would be tying some new flies that very night ) Hell even paul in "a river runs through it" had to ask..."what are they biting on?" SD
  4. *SD leaves thread knowing he was beat* LOL
  5. 1969? OSD i was -2 in 69' lol sorry i had ta do it SD
  6. I have had "some" success with them for salmon...... by some i mean 2 females hooked in the chops on a redd. Not a real good testament because i think they would'a hit just about anything right then. i just started using them late last year so i havent had a chance to try steelies yet but i will pretty soon so guess i'll see SD
  7. just wanted to give a happy birthday to steelheader69 SH69 its a pleasure having you on this site and i always enjoy seeing your flies they are top notch, happy b-day! SD
  8. LOL well i guess its gonna have to be a streamer,i wanna see it .....but i still say LOL SD
  9. give it a look....i think i paid $2 for five 6" colored glue sticks and $5 for the mini glue gun. It works pretty good because you can make ethier single eggs or a cluster of eggs. Just put a drop on the hook, turn the hook with the rotary handle if you have a rotary vise to "round" the egg, then dunk it in a cup of water to hardin the egg. Takes about 30 second to make one so you can do alot in a night! SD P.S I think i still have some i'll post a pic if i do
  10. wecome to the nut house kurt i'm sure you will be emailin me asking what kinda site i got you involved in and look....another MI guy smallie that makes it what 98% MI members wrong direction......hmmmm one word ....nah i wont go there,i'll be nice to ya tonight little fella SD

    Storing Flyline

Well i dont know if the cold will hurt it but i cant say it would be "good" for it,to store flyline i take it off the reel and wrap it around a coffe can and keep it in a warm dry place that way it wont develop any unwated "memory" to it when you go to use it next year. SD
  12. SDH did you check your local fly shops? i found not only orange/red/pink glue sticks at my fly shop but they also had a small hot glue gun specialy for this for only $5. if yours dont carry it then check cabelas www.cabelas.com they might have it. SD
  13. Heres the first attempt at covering the egg with softex, i'm still playin around with dipping and brushing it so the results will improve but it is already giving it a nice "slimey" type of look.
  14. make yourself at home???....will,dont tell him that....he'll never leave! SD
  15. SDH yeah i have done many hot glue eggs (also called moe eggs) they are very simple to do and come out looking pretty good but i havent really noticed a difference between using them and regular glo-bug eggs. SD
  16. Nice to see you found your way back irish and a belated welcome! Lots of smallie fishers around here so your in good company. SD
  17. Well i finally recieved my jar of softex in the mail today i'll tryin put a couple pic's up,dont know if it will be tonight or not...been sick today and i have also been having some prob's with my camera but i'll try to get some to post how they came out. SD

  23. jsb2l i am looking at the same reel to but for my next trip in jan. the ross rhythm. depends on what you want to spend, the harris solitude cant be beat in my opinion,i have a solitude4 that i have had for many years now and never had a single problem with it big fish after big fish. for a 7wt you may want to go with the solitude3 which is a bit smaller in size and a bit cheaper at $250 I also have a ross g5 that i have had for about the same amount of time as the harris and have no prob's with it ethier, its a good reel and slightly more affordable than the harris. orvis battenkill reels are a bit more affordable than both at around $120-150 but i have had 2 of them and had some problems with spool to case "rubbing" after a awhile. I was told by orvis it was a "bad batch" but after 2 of them i dont use them anymore myself,it may have just been a bad run on that batch but it kinda soured me for their reels. I am seriously considering getting the ross rythme in a few days to take on this steelhead trip to PA so i will let you know what i think of it if i do get it. For $200 it looks like a very nice reel. SD
  24. never really thought about the ziplock bags SH69 but that is a good idea....most of my hackle is average price stuff but i have a few i wouldn't want anything to happen too. think i will do that just to be on the safe side. SD
