  1. Also you guys that do a lot of shooting. With my tinnitus I'm concerned about doing more damage to my ears over the years as I shoot more. I just have the normal run of the mill muff style protection right now ($20 cheapies) are there any other ear protection that is better than others?
  2. Took my CPL class today and got my certificate so I can apply for my concealed carry permit. Gonna apply for the permit and get it but prob wait a good 6 months to actually carry so I can get very familiar with the gun and spend a good deal of time at the range first. Holy crap that was a long day, 8 friggin hours ...didn't expect it to be that long. Plus I only got 2 hrs sleep last night because the tinnitus is back a bit worse than it has been, so that made it an even longer feeling day than it was. They have you fire 48 rounds. 8rds two handed slowly, 8rds two handed as fast as you can while still getting back on target, then 8rds 2 at a time while stopping every two rounds then looking left&right to break tunnel vision, then 8 right handed and 8 left handed. Then the last 8 are without using sights just as fast as you can pull the trigger. Not too bad for not using a handgun in over 25 years. I think the ones up top were done left handed because I only have 25% feeling in that left index finger that I broke 30 yrs ago and it healed all jacked up & crooked lol Gonna start gun shopping soon and then spend as much time at the range as I can. πŸ˜†

    Podcasts

im thinking this has a chance of being a serious question from the last guy in florida with a flip phone. For lack of a better explanation it’s a prerecorded radio talk show. They could be about anything and they can be made by anyone with a cell phone. A modern cell phone, probably not with a flip phone. I wasn't gonna say it and sidetrack the topic, but since you guys brought it up.....but I honestly had no idea what a podcast is either. Then again I gave up cell phones almost 20 yrs ago. So is it only ones recorded with a cell phone that iare considered a podcast? Do they only have audio or do they have video? I watch Joe Rogan on youtube all the time and I've heard people say it's a podcast....but IMO it's a plain ol' talk show. What makes it a podcast? All serious questions too. Because I have actually googled it before and never seem to understand what differentiates a podcast from a talk show/talk radio.
  4. Latest pair off the bench. Pair of 9' 5wt 4pc with rosewood seats/burl grips, went with a real dark ruby red for the main wrap and a metallic gunsmoke wrap for the trim.
  5. Another euro rod fresh off the bench. This one a 10' 3wt in burgundy color blank with dark grey wraps and silver trim. Rose wood burl seat and subtle accents in the grip.
  6. Appreciate the input guys thanks! I plan to test shoot before I buy, mainly for reason mentioned. At my size I have pretty big hands so I've been wondering if the smaller easier to conceal guns my not fit my hand properly. Will find out soon. I definitely plan on taking some further handgun training after I do the CPL this weekend. I luckily have a few good ranges real close to me, one being a pretty big one that offers a pretty wide range of courses so for sure going to sign up to take advantage of some of them.
  7. Yeah I have used Recoils before and not a fan of them. Performance is good, but one problem with them is they "sing". Because of the material they are made of as the line goes through them it gives off a pretty bad sound due to the reverberation which many people including myself are not a fan of. I built myself a rod with them years ago and sold it after using it twice due to that reason. It just drove me nuts listening to the odd sound every time I shot line through the guides. I find SF guide wrapping to be pretty easy. I've seen tons of guys come up with all sorts of ways to attempt it from dental rubber bands to tiny o-rings and other DIY ideas, and the way I do it is as simple as it gets. A small dot of superglue. The dot of glue holds the guide on so you can wrap it, yet once wrapped is easy to tweak to adjust the position of the guide, and has no ill effects to the wrap/finish once the rod is done. If you haven't tried it give it a go and you'll make things much easier on yourself and wonder why you hadn't tried it before
  8. 17K and they can't even offer free shipping? πŸ˜†
  9. No differences between these two. They are both the Xi series that I bring in for euro rods so only thing is the color. Single foot guides do have a number of "slight" advantages over double foot guides. But the advantages are very small so it is almost not something that is in fact more than personal choice. The advantages are that they are lighter weight. Not necessarily the guide itself, but the fact that it only takes half the wraps and finish as a double foot guide. On a normal 7-9' rod that might not make a big difference, but when you are going out to 10' range saving even a tiny bit of weight that is "swing weight" does help some. Also IMO they do allow for full uninhibited flex of the blank. If you think about it with a normal double foot guide rod you have 9 to 10 1.5" long spots on the rod where there is a piece of metal somewhat rigidly attached to the blank as the blank itself bends. With a single foot guide you don't have that happening. Again, this is a very very small thing, but when you add up a few of the small things I think it's worth it. The only "con" per say is that single foots are not quite as durable as double foots. With single foot guides you have to be careful sliding rod sections into tubes/cases or when moving them around in a boat. Because with the guide standing straight up you can pretty easily bend one out of shape. It can be bent back to shape but if you do that a couple times on a trip you risk breaking one and needing it replaced.
  10. Latest pair of rods off the bench for a customer. Pair of 10' 3wt 4pc, one in burgundy with garnet wraps and the other matte black with black wraps. Both with rosewood seats, burl grips, no butts and SF guides.
  11. Good to hear Norm πŸ‘ Did your power stay on as well?
  12. Would like some feedback on handguns from those that own/carry. I go for my CPL permit next week, so plan to buy a handgun after that. I've been into guns my whole life, but always long guns, rifles/shotguns. So Handguns are somewhat new to me to a certain extent. So once I go get my CPL next week I'll be looking for a handgun that is concealable. I have been looking and have it narrowed down I think to two, both Glock. One the Glock 26, the other the Glock 19x. Any input on these or others ?
  13. I can totally relate! Even though the city I live in is a upper middle class type city and you would "think" the grid would be good, it is not. We lose power here at least 6-8 times per year. Even some times when the sun is out and no rain/wind. It's just nuts. I bought an 1800w generator about 7 yrs ago just because of how much we lose power here. It died during this last outage last week, so I'm picking up a new bigger 3500w one next week. Hope yours stays on and no issues. Let us know how you guys are doing when ya can.
  14. Another pair of rods just off the bench. There are 7'6" 3wt 4pc with rosewood burl seats, burl accented grips, metallic red and silver on one and black and silver for the other.
  15. Stay safe Norm. Been a stormy summer this year. I had a few days last week without power due to some crazy storms with 70mph winds that ripped through SE Michigan. We had over 600,000 without power for a few days.
  16. Most of my rods are on my own blanks I have for my company. These are the classic series which is a mod to mod/fast action matte black finish.
  17. First rods of a busy few weeks ahead are just off the bench. Pair of 9' 5wt 4pc with carbon fiber seats, burl grips, black wraps tipped in single turn of metallic blue.
  18. Looks like those 11'ers are gonna be an even bigger seller than the 10'er are. I just ran a pre-order for them on FB and sold out with in 20 hrs 😲
  19. But I'm still waiting on the check you sent 6 months ago πŸ˜† Yeah I'm not a fan of 5pc rods, but it will probably work well for an 11' er for guys that have smaller cars.
  20. Oh we are happy for you... currently printing out a Mark Knapp dartboard picture 🀨
  21. Damn big Gill! πŸ‘
  22. New inventory for the fall is now in. 60+ blanks with some new sizes. Have had a lot of requests for some euro rods other than just 10' 3wt so now stocking 10' 2wt's as well as a new size which is 11' 3wt 5pc to see if that size is going to be desirable to customers. About 100 new reel seats, few hundred burl cork rings and couple thousandth guides/tips are now restocked as well. Lots of building to do this fall.
  23. Still tryin to talk Mom into getting a pair. Hopefully she will finally give in sometime soon.
  24. The "good" of today with cars and electronics has it's draw backs as well. Case in point, just yesterday the rear gate on our Yukon will not open. It's an electric lock and does not have an actual key to unlock it so I can't even get in the back of the truck now. In the good old days I'd just take the round GM key and be able to unlock that sucker no problem. Personally I feel the good ol days of my younger years (70's - 80's) were far better the the current days far as pretty much everything goes IMO. But it's all a matter of personal opinion and what you feel is "better/worse" when it comes to each thing in life. I know people definitely treated each other better back then that's for sure.
